Swim Camp
Ages 6 and up (campers must already know how to swim)
Swim camp offers a fun learning opportunity for kids who already know how to swim but want to
learn more about diving under the water, different swimming strokes, water games, and safety in and
around the pool. Camp sessions include instructional time, group game activities, and free swim time
supervised by a certified swimming instructor as well as certified lifeguards. Space in this camp is lim-
ited so reserve your spot early!

Readying Future Nurses
Grades 9-12
Are you interested in learning more about the nursing profession?
If so, this is the camp for you! Learn more about the exciting profession of nursing through simulation
manikins and other “hands-on” opportunities in Gordon’s state-of the-art nursing labs. The require-

Led by a certified CPR instructor, campers will learn life-

A Walk Through History
These classes are a must for all history buffs! Dr. Matthew Hill, Assistant Professor of History at
Gordon College will lead students on a lively and informative journey exploring two significant aspects
of American history.
A History of American Foreign Relations from the Colonial Times to the Present
The course will examine the history of American diplomacy and foreign policy and conclude with
current contemporary issues in American foreign relations.

Introduction to Creative Writing
Do you have stories to tell?
Is writing the next Great American Novel on your bucket list?
If so, this is the class for you!
Our creative writing course will allow students to expand their
writing skills to focus on the creation of short stories. Techni-
cal aspects of creative writing such as plot, character develop-
ment, dialogue, narrative arc, point of view and genre (among
others) will be covered.
Students will be encouraged to write in genres that interest
them, but will also be given weekly assignments to expand and
challenge their current notions about writing and style.

Students will study basic but important techniques of throwing pottery forms on the wheel, centering
the ball, pulling cylinders, and handbuilding. More advanced students will work on more complex
projects. Topics include pulling and attaching handles, sizing lids, applying glaze, firing, and more.
The course includes clay, glazes, use of wheel, and firing in the kiln. A tool set is available in the

Guitar Lessons with Danny Smith
Ages 9 to adult
Gordon College is pleased to offer guitar lessons with adjunct professor Danny Smith. Danny has an
extensive background in music performance and education and is also the owner of Night Sky Music, a
96-track dedicated audio recording facility located in Griffin, GA. Danny holds a Master of Music
degree from Georgia State University with concentrations in classical guitar and jazz studies. He also
has 20 years experience in audio recording and music technology.
Weekly 30-minute individualized private lessons will focus on basic
chords, strumming, and finger-style technique utilizing popular and
classic songs. Students will also learn to read music notation. Lessons
may be tailored to a general knowledge of playing the guitar, or to the
study of specific playing styles such as classical, jazz, blues, or pop
music.

Instrument not included. Students will provide: guitar (preferably a nylon string “classical” guitar),
electronic guitar tuner, and book. The book will be determined based upon individual student level and

Violin Instructor Mary Stephenson has over 15 years
teaching experience. She has played with the Ocmulgee
Symphony as well as smaller groups. Her violin lessons are
individualized, taught in either Suzuki or traditional
method. Each lesson is 30 minutes long. Recital and group
lessons will be scheduled at appropriate levels. Instrument
is not included. Please contact the Department of Commu-

Introduction to Medical Terminology
Designed for the novice student, this course is aimed at those interested in pursuing
various careers in a medical setting such as: medical billing, transcription or coding,
doctor’s office support staff, or even those entering college to obtain a medically-
related degree. Students will be introduced to the basic components of medical termi-
nology and how each relates to various body systems.

CPR for Healthcare Providers (American Heart Association BLS)
The American Heart Association’s BLS (Basic Life Support) course is designed to teach the skills of
CPR for victims of all ages, use of an automated external defibrillator and relief of foreign-body airway
obstruction. It satisfies the requirements of students enrolled in the Gordon College Nursing program
and is also available to healthcare workers who provide service to patients in a wide variety of settings.
An AHA BLS for Healthcare Provider card is included in the registration fee and will be available
from the Community Education office upon successful completion of the course.

Each pre-licensing course prepares you for the state exam required to become a licensed agent. The

Admission
Our Community Education program is designed primarily for adults, so participants
should be at least 16 years old unless a different age group is listed in the course descrip-
tion.
If you or your child have special needs, please let us know at the time of registration so
that appropriate accommodations can be made.
A waiver of liability must be completed and on file in the Community Education office before a class
begins if the course involves physical activity or other foreseen risk.
Continuing Education Units
One Continuing Education Unit (CEU) equals 10 contact hours. CEUs are awarded only
for professional programs or those addressing significant social issues. CEUs accumulate
for each student on a permanent transcript which may be obtained from the Department of
Community Education. The CEU is not transferable for academic credit.
Course Cancellation and Refund Policy
If a course is cancelled
You will be notified of cancellation at least one day before class is to begin. Please make sure
we have current contact information.
You will be given the option to use your registration money toward another Community Educa-
tion course or to have Gordon College issue a refund to you.
If a class is cancelled by the College, the registration fee paid by the class registrant will be
refunded in full and constitute the registrant’s sole remedy for any class cancellation.
To withdraw from a class
We do not offer refunds once a course has started.
Notify the Community Education office at least 48 hours before the course is scheduled to
begin. The number to call is 678-359-5123.
We will permit substitution of another person if you cannot attend.
If materials have already been purchased on your behalf for the course, the cost will be
deducted from your refund.
Payment
Registration and payment is required in advance.
Our instructors cannot accept money for registration fees.
Because class enrollment is limited in most classes, it is best to register as early as possible.

option to be placed on a wait list or we will return your registration fees.

Company Payment
Purchase orders or company authorizations may be faxed or mailed with a completed registration form.
The authorization must be on company letterhead and signed by a company official stating the stu-
dent’s name, course, and to whom to send the invoice.
Parking
The following lots are available for Community Education students and are indicated on the map in-
cluded in this catalog:
lot adjacent to the pool
lot beside Fine Arts and Academic buildings
Sports Complex Lot off of College Drive
Guest parking passes will be mailed with your registration confirmation. Please do not park in faculty
and staff parking spaces which are marked by green lines in each lot. If you do, you may be ticketed
by campus police. If you have any questions or concerns about parking, please contact our office at

Students who pay with checks drawn on accounts
without sufficient funds will be charged a $25 fee
and must pay registration fees using another

able in our office. Please

Spencer Street across the street from the
Melton residence hall parking lot.
Hours: 8-5 Monday through Friday.
Park in the lot behind our office (entrances
from College Drive and Spencer Street).
