Just as we teach them how to cross the street, e their shoes and say 'please` and 'thank you', basic life lessons must also include teaching them the proper way to use computers, tablets, smartphones, games, etc. Just as you would ask your child where they are going if they were going out to play or to visit friends, you need to start the conversa- on about internet safety by asking them where they are going and what they are do- ing ONLINE. Many of our students are learn- ing about internet safety in class. Check out Div. 6's internet safety ps online at hp://blogs.sd41.bc.ca/digitcizenship. They did a wonderful job of sharing ways to stay safe online. Parents can also check out the parent ps sheets on this blog. Here are some general rules for internet safety: Educate yourself about the internet Even if you don't have a computer at home, it's important to be knowledgeable about the Internet because children can have access at a friend's house or the public library Create a family agreement for internet use including hours of use, which sites can be ac- cessed and which ones shouldn't be Place your computer in a central, open locaon, like the living room, so Internet use can be supervised Look at the sites your child visits. Sit with your child while they are online to see what they are doing and who they are communi- cang with. If you have any questions or concerns about internet safety, please contact your child's teacher or Ms. Yamamoto.

Tooth Trolley Project

You are invited to register for the Tooth Trolley pro-ject that is free of charge to all families which in-cludes a fun session in a relaxed dental environment. A Dentist will examine the children’s mouths and our Certified Dental Assisting Students with provide the services. These services provided include oral health and nutritional education for the whole family as well as preventive procedures .

The Burnaby Festival of Learning is a week-long celebration of learning with 50+ free events that will inform, engage and spark creative conversations between diverse audiences. Capping SFU’s 50th Anniversary celebrations, the Festival will showcase performances, lectures, discussions, debates and book launches joining the University’s strong history of research and dialogue with the City’s diversity in community programming. Events will engage many audiences including children, families, young adults and seniors.

Where: Activities will happen across many civic spaces and institutions, including libraries, museums, galleries, parks, community centres in Burnaby, and at the Simon Fraser University Burnaby campus.

When: May 1-7, 2016. Kickoff on Sunday, May 1 with the City of Burnaby’s Rhodofest at Deer Lake Park (6450 Deer Lake Ave, Burnaby) from 10:00 am - 3:00 pm and close with SFU’s Science Rendezvous on Saturday, May 7 from 11:00 am - 3:00 pm at SFU’s Burnaby campus (8888 University
