Rhonda boosts top retail teamCBRE has boosted its retailteam in Adelaide appointedwith a well-known propertyprofessional.
Rhonda Hockey joins as anassociate director of its Retail,Asset Services team and comeswith extensive knowledge ofSouth Australia’s large formatproperty sector.

THE LAUNCH of a new com-mercial property agency in Ad-elaide today is beingpositioned as a push to chal-lenge the biggest players in aburgeoning South Australiamarket.
David Buenfeld, a directorof Belle Property CommercialAdelaide – which is fronting anational commercial rebrandby the Sydney-headquarteredoutfit – is adamant the experi-enced Adelaide team will makeimmediate inroads across SA.
“We see ourselves as goingup against the top firms in thenext 12 months. Our goal is tobe a top-tier agency,” MrBuenfeld said.
Mr Buenfeld, a well-knownface on the SA commercial
property scene, joins from LJHCommercial along with formercolleague Lyndon Cocks, also adirector of the new concern.
Belle Property already has astrong residential footprint inAdelaide, with offices in pre-mium suburbs Glenelg, Adel-aide Hills, Unley, Grange andthe Adelaide CBD.
Adelaide’s Asian marketsdirector, Calvin Lai, said themove into commercial is partof a long-term strategic plan.
“We see a tremendous op-portunity in the commercialproperty market,” he said.
“Having already been in-volved in major projects anddevelopment site sales, weknow the sector and all that itoffers, and we believe we canleverage strongly off our mar-ket-leading position in resi-dential and projects.”
The new division will not bestarting from scratch, MrBuenfeld emphasised.
“Calvin is very well connec-ted in Asia and he already hasa lot of key clients there. This(demand) is only going to getbigger. Adelaide has started tochange in the last few years,with significant movementcoming from overseas and at-tracted by the high yields onoffer here,” he said.
“Adelaide is attractive tothe eastern seaboard as well,property prices have peakedthere a little lately. The gov-ernment and City of Adelaideare doing a lot here with the 10Gig city and more.”
Mr Buenfeld will head upinvestment sales and develop-ment site sales (focusing on theCBD and inner metropolitanareas), and in tandem with Mr
Cocks, boasts more than 50years’ commercial property ex-pertise. The team is furtherstrengthened by Matt Lazarus(private clients), who comeswith a background in retailleasing and sales, and Alan Lim.
“One of the driving forcesbehind my decision to changebrands is the cultural synergy,”Mr Buenfeld said. “We willbring a progressive and inno-vative approach to commercialreal estate in Adelaide.”
The new operation will bespearheaded by a dedicatedAsian markets division headedup by Mr Lai and Mr Lim.
National commercial boss,Michael Hanscomb, backedthe new niche.
“Australia has seen stronggrowth in Asia-based investorsin commercial property fromChina, Hong Kong, Singapore
and Malaysia. Our Asian mar-kets division, which we arerolling out nationally, com-bines local expertise and globalnetwork to provide a tailoredservice to Asian high net worthindividuals which meets theirproperty needs,” he said.
Mr Lai said business is al-ready under way.
“We have been very activein CBD development site salesiand have been appointed tosell at 153 Flinders St,” he said.
“We have strong interna-tional marketing capabilitiesand create all our material intwo languages.”
Further expansion is ex-pected within industrial, re-tail, hotels and valuations andinstitutional investments,given SA’s “increasinglypopular investment prop-osition,” Mr Lai said.
