HOMECOMING CELEBRATION April 15, 2018
“IT’S TIME TO CELEBRATE”
2018 marks the 15th year that First United Methodist Church has been at our present location. I hope each of you will join us this Sunday, April 15th, as we gather together, with other present and former members and friends of our congregation, to give thanks and praise to God for all the blessings he has given us as a congregation for these past 15 years! Our celebration will begin at 10:30 a.m. with a service in the Worship Center. Our guest speaker will be Dr. Harold Lawrence, who was our pastor at the time FUMC moved to Log Cabin Road. There will be special music provided by the FUMC Chancel Choir, the Bell Choir, and the Youth Ensemble. Ashley Davey has compiled a video, highlighting some of the special moments in the life of our FUMC family, which will be shown during the worship service. Immediately following the worship service, dinner on the grounds will be served under the tent on the front lawn of the church. Our catered menu is fried chicken, potato salad, baked beans, chips, tea, lemonade, and bottled water. Dessert will consist of finger desserts (cookies, bar desserts and brownies) provided by members of FUMC. The FUMC Homecoming Committee has worked hard in planning for homecoming and will work even harder this Saturday and Sunday getting everything ready for FUMC’s special day. I want to say a big thank you to the committee members: Beegee Baugh, Patty Baugh, Mary Boyer, Judy Cheely, Steve Crocker, Collene Dalrymple, McKenzie Davenport, Paul Dean, Pastor Mac Enfinger, Stephanie Johnson, Stacy Pittman, Bruce Vaughn, and Kikky Williams. Also, thanks to Ashley Davey for her hard work and support. Hope to see each of you at our Homecoming, “IT’S TIME TO CELEBRATE!” , service and dinner on the grounds, SUNDAY, APRIL 15th at 10:30 a.m.! Jane Vedder, Lay Leader If you are providing a FINGER DESSERT for Sunday’s meal, please bring your
dessert (on a DISPOSABLE serving platter) to the church kitchen on Saturday, April
14th, between 9-11 a.m. THANK YOU!!!
The 8:30 am Worship Service will return to
the lake on April 22, 2018.

God is patient. Why? Well, because God is in control and He knows how the story ends. Because of Jesus’ sacrifice, we know how the story ends, too. Because of Jesus, WE CAN WAIT. We can trust that God is in control. We can have hope that things will work out in the end. And we can be patient because we know all that God has done. Patience is a reflection of the character of God. WEEK 3 Key Question: What do you do when it’s hard to wait? Having a plan for your impatience is important. Rather than just letting your frustration get to you, you can know the steps you can take to make sure that you don’t lose your cool. We want kids to discover how they can make patience a priority. There’s an important patience principle King Solomon wrote in Proverbs 14:29. Anyone who is patient has great understanding. But anyone who gets angry quickly shows how foolish they are (NIV). How we respond to waiting shows others our character. Getting frustrated and angry doesn’t make the wait any less; it just makes us look foolish. Bottom Line: When you think you can’t wait, keep your cool. Sometimes when you’re waiting, becoming angry and frustrated with others is the first thing that pops into our minds. But when it comes to waiting, often there’s very little we can do to make the wait any less. While you’re waiting, don’t make yourself look foolish by taking it out on the people around you. Serving Him together,
Ms. Shannon Bentley

After Spring Break, it feels like the year is sprinting to the end. With end of year celebrations coming up, I'm starting to realize the little time we have left of the year, especially with our Seniors. This coming week will be all one service in the morning (Homecoming), with no Sunday School. We will still meet at our regular time, however, in the afternoon! We started a series last week about examining who Jesus actually is and how that differs from the softened versions of our culture. We are going to continue to examine Jesus' character in the next coming weeks.
Registration is nearing the end for both FUGE and River of Life. As of now, we need a few more participants for the FUGE Camp to make the trip happen (June 4-9). If you are on the fence about attending, please contact me, I'd love to answer any questions you have!
Upcoming Events: Senior Sunday May 6- ONE SERVICE @ 10:30 am We will be honoring our High School and College Seniors in a unified service. Our tradition is to share photos of your students during the service and find ways to honor them throughout wor-ship. Please get your Senior's photos to Cathy as soon as possible!
