Being Open to Interruptions During Advent and Christmas

It was the busy, pre-Christmas time of the year (1985)...about like now. This particular evening I had made plans to relax at home with my family. It would be the perfect way to unwind from the stresses of the season and absorb some real Christmas spirit. The phone rang, and the caller invited us to join a group of carolers from our church to visit shut-ins. My two young children and wife were enthusiastic, much more than was I. “But this would interrupt our plans for the evening.” I said. Outvoted, I reluctantly agreed to forfeit my peaceful evening. As we traveled from house to house, it became apparent we were sharing the true spirit of Christmas with many people. What had started out as an upsetting interruption was now bringing happiness to all involved. As we sang the familiar carols, I reflected on that first Christmas when the shepherds were interrupted in their ordinary tasks by an angel, and the Wise Men were interrupted in their study of the heavens by that bright new star. Think what they would have missed had they not been open to God’s signs! Think what we miss when we refuse to allow God to interrupt our lives! Let us, in this holy season of Advent and Christmas, be open to God’s interruptions. Prayerfully,

Bill

A CHRISTMAS GIFT SUGGESTION

Many folks remember family members at Christmas by contributing to a worthy charity in

their honor. This year, I plan to honor my family members with a contribution to Trinity. The

needs of our church are many due to Hurricane Matthew, the new roofs, and other conditions.

I think this is a worthy way to honor my family. Maybe other Trinitarians find this to be a

good gift suggestion, too.

UMYF NEWS

Christmas Party - On December 3rd, the UMYF will host their annual Christmas Party! We will be

going to the home of Gage Fortson, and families are asked to sign up to help provide food for the evening. Youth may meet at the church at 5:15 pm to carpool to the Fortson home, or you may meet us there at 5:30pm. If you have any questions, please contact Rachel Carter in the church office!

Ski Trip- The annual UMYF Ski Trip will be held on Martin Luther King Jr. Weekend, January 13-16th! We will be going to Winterplace Ski Resort in WV. Limited spots will be available, and it is a first-come, first-served ba-sis. The only way to “officially” reserve your child’s spot on the trip is with a $50 deposit. Here are the options and the total trip cost for each: 2-day Ski/Snowboard-$250; 1-day ski/snowboard-$175; No skiing or snow-boarding-$95. When you make your deposit, I will need to know if your child wants a 1-day pass, 2- day pass, or doesn’t want to ski. I also need to know if they have ever ski/snowboarded. If they have never been skiing or snowboarding but plan to do so, it will be an extra $10 for a required lesson. Scholarships are available for youth who need help paying to go on the trip. If you have questions, please contact Rachel Carter in the church office.

Angel Pennies will be collected by the children on each of the four

Sundays of Advent beginning on Sunday, December 3rd. The monies

collected will benefit Coastal Samaritan Counseling Center. Thank

you for caring and sharing.

A Note From the Staff-Parish Relations Committee

We are requesting a Christmas love gift from the members of Trinity for our staff. They have done a great job during

2017, and we know you will want to join with us in showing our appreciation at this special time of the year. You may place your gift in the offering plate, drop it by the church office, or mail it to Trinity, 198 Long Avenue, Conway, SC 29526. Please label your gifts Christmas Love Gift—staff, and we would like to have them by Sunday, December 10. We will distribute the monies to the staff before Christmas. Let’s show our staff how much we really appreciate them.

Dear Friends,

Thank you so very much for your generous donation of food

for CAP. You have made it possible for us to feed the hun-

gry in our community. Our hope is that will continue to sup-

port our ministry and be a vital part of healing others’ hearts.

May God bless you.

Sincerely,

Thank you for you donation to our ministry. Your gift will enable

us to continue fulfilling our mission of “Sharing God’s Love One

Meal At a Time”.

A note from the Executive Director of CAP (Churches Assisting People)

We have been busy here at CAP. We continue to see 60-80 people per day. We have been doing some

painting and fixing up. The staff has attended a couple of meetings with other agencies to keep in touch

and continue to work together to reach more of our neighbors in need. As always, we appreciate so much

the support of our churches and its members. Without your generous donations of food and money, we

could not help as many families as we do. With that being said, our shelves are nearly empty. We have

several places holding food drives and are grateful. However, if you can drop of food now, we would

truly appreciate it. If you would rather give money (make your checks payable to Trinity and designated

for CAP), we will be more than happy to go shopping.

If anyone would like a tour of CAP, please feel free to call and schedule it or just drop in. We would love

to show you around. If you have any group that would like to have me come speak to them, I will be glad

to do that as well.

Individually we are one drop, but together we are an ocean.

Thankful to be serving with you,

Donna Bodie

Dear Friends in Mission:

Recently hurricanes have hit the United States and the

Caribbean. Hurricane Harvey & Irma have devastated

Texas, Florida, & other areas. We’re grateful that you are

partnering with us through The United Methodist

Committee on Relief (UMCOR).

Thank you for your gifts received on 10/16/17 for

$1,310.00 through The Advance, the designated giving

channel of The United Methodist Church.

Thank you for your thoughts & prayers during this time

and for your generous support. One hundred percent of

your gift goes towards the project or ministry that you

support.

Invitation to Genesis—a Short-term Disciple Bible Study

This 10 week study takes groups into the rich tapestry of Genesis exploring the interaction between God and very human people - pride, family relationships, conflict and journey all showcase the best known stories of Creation, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Rebekah and Joseph.

Participants for this Invitation to Genesis do not have to have an in-depth knowledge of the Bible to enjoy and benefit from participation. Reading just two chapters of Genesis a week, they will discover the life altering stories that will invite them to follow Christ as true disciples. Weekly sessions will last about 60 minutes. Sessions:

We will meet on Tuesday evenings at 6:30 PM in the Chapel.

The first session (orientation) will be on Tuesday, January 2, 2018.

Please call or text Mary Shellam Hill (843-333-8091) to sign up. To insure we have enough books on time, please let her know by December 17 if you are interested.

A NEW BETH MOORE BIBLE STUDY

“The Quest” by Beth Moore begins on Tuesday, January 9, 2018,at 10:00 AM in the Chapel. “The Quest” is a cross between a curriculum and a journal, between a classroom and a prayer closet, with 3 primary objectives: 1. To promote deeper intimacy with God 2. To help foster a sojourner mentality to aid as comfort that we are only passing through this world on our way somewhere else. This is not our home.

3. To foster an adventurer mentality as royal subjects of royal blood unrecognized by the world but headed to an unshakeable kingdom worth the arduous trip (Acts 14:22).

Mark your calendars and join us for this exciting study!

You may pre-register by calling Nancy Anderson at 843-397-5206.
