The$topic$of$this$paper$is$oscillating$reactions$and$it$is$written$as$a$combination$of$the$subjects$
mathematics$and$chemistry.$It$contains$an$account$of$the$term$oscillating$reaction$and$a$
description$of$the$Lotka;Voltera$mechanism$as$a$model$of$an$oscillating$reaction.$
Mathematical$and$chemical$arguments$are$applied$to$the$model$to$explain$why$the$Lotka;
Voltera$mechanism$causes$periodical$oscillations$in$one$or$more$of$the$concentrations$in$the$
reaction.$The$Briggs;Rauscher$experiment$is$individual$conducted.$And$the$data$from$the$
experiment$is$collected$to$further$study$on$a$theoretical$level.$The$data$is$used$to$investigate$
the$relevance$of$the$reactant$concentration$and$the$temperature$to$the$period$time$in$the$
Briggs;Rauscher$reaction.$The$paper$additionally$includes$an$account$of$matrices$and$an$
explanation$of$how$a$system$of$linear$equations$is$expressed$on$matrix$form$together$with$an$
account$of$the$solution$of$such$system$of$equations.$The$theory$about$matrices$is$also$used$in$
combination$to$the$Lotka;Voltera$mechanism.$The$conclusion,$which$can$be$drawn$in$
connection$to$the$experiment$is$that$the$reactant$concentration$of$I;,$MnSO4$and$CH2(COOH)2$$
has$an$effect$to$the$period$time$in$the$Briggs;Rauscher$reaction.$If$you$reduce$the$
concentration$of$I;$in$the$reaction$the$period$time$will$shorten.$The$data$of$the$reduction$of$
concentration$of$MnSO4$is$ambiguous.$One$experiment$shows$that$if$you$reduce$the$
concentration$of$MnSO4$the$period$time$will$shorten$and$one$shows$the$opposite.$The$
experiments$also$showed$that$if$you$reduce$the$concentration$of$CH2(COOH)2$the$period$time$
will$increase.$Finally$the$experiment$showed$that$the$period$time$shortened$with$higher$
temperature.$Therefore$I$can$as$well$conclude$that$the$temperature$has$an$effect$to$the$period$
time$in$the$Briggs;Rauscher$reaction.$$
