2.4 master Calendar.Themastercalendarfortheschoolyeariskeptbytheassistantprincipalforstudentactivitiesorhisdesignee.Thedate,time,andplaceofallschoolfunctionsmustbereservedthroughhim.(PleasenotethatfacilitiesrequestmustbecompletedusingthecurrentBCSCrequestform.)Thiscalendarshouldbeconsultedbeforeanydatesaredecideduponoranylocationinschoolchosenforanyschoolfunction.
2.5 good standing.Astudentisconsidered“ingoodstanding”ifthestudenthaspassedsixsolidsubjectsthepreviousgradingperiod.Semestergradestakeprecedence.Thestudentalsomustnotbecurrentlysuspended,expelled,oronabehaviorcontractbytheDeansOffice.
2.6 evacuation Drills.Evacuation crisis, and fire drills are heldon a regular schedule, and every roomhas a specific patternofevacuation.Eachstudentshouldbefamiliarwiththepatternfor any roomhe occupies.TheP.A. systemorwarning bellwill be used in case of tornado or disaster drills. If theP.A.systemisinoperative,aportableunitwillbeusedaccordingtoapredeterminedplan.
2.7 library/media Center.TheMediaCenterprovidesavarietyof information sources, both traditional and computerized.Networkedresourcesincludefull-textmagazineandnewspaper

articles,governmentdocuments,andInternet.Acoin-operatedcopymachineisavailableforstudentuseat10centsperpage.Thefirstprintedcopyfromthecomputernetworkisfree;afterthefirstpage,thereisachargeof10centsperadditionalpage.
TheMediaCenter does not charge overdue fines; however,replacementcostsarechargedforlostordamageditems.Studentswithoverduesattheendofthenine-weekgradingperiodwillnotreceivenewlibrarycardsuntilitemsarereturned,withapenaltyoftwovisitsdeductedforeachweeklate.
StudentsmaycometotheMediaCenterfromassignedresourceswithaLibraryCard,whichallowsupto18visitsduringagradingperiod.Studentsreporttoassignedresourceareasfirst,thentothelibrarywhereattendanceistakenandreportedtoresourceteachers.Afterthefirstvisiteachweek,studentsshouldbringawrittenpassfromateacherforwhomtheyhaveanassignmentrequiringuseof theMediaCenter.Writtenpassesareused inconjunctionwiththelibrarycardasneededfortherestofthatweek.StudentsmaycometotheMediaCenterbeforeandafterschoolwithoutpasses,oronwrittenpassesfromtheclassroomasneeded.Lostlibrarycardsarenotreissuedduringthenineweeks.InappropriatebehaviorresultsinoneadditionaldaysubtractedfromtheLibraryCard,withlossofcardforthatnineweeksonthesecondoffense.Alterations,forgeries,falseuse,orotherabuseofcardsmayresultinlossoflibraryprivilegesandreferraltothedeansforadditionaldisciplinaryaction.
TheMediaCenterisaplacetostudyquietly,conductresearch,andenjoy leisure reading.Studentsareencouraged toask forassistance.MediaCenterstaffwantstohelpyoufindtheanswersyouneed.TheLibraryCardallowsfreeaccesstotheLibrary/MediaCenterduringresourcetimeforstudentswhoarewillingtoberesponsiblefortheircards,theirbehavior,andtheirtime.
2.8 bookstore.Theschoolbookstoreislocatedonthefirstfloornearthecenterofthefronthallwayofthebuilding.ItisopenMondaythroughFridayduringpostedhoursto2:00PM.Inadditiontothe regular school supplies such as pens, pencils, paper, andnotebooks;paperbacksandworkbooksarealsosoldthroughouttheschoolyear.

reporttheconditiontothebookstoreatoncesothathewillnotbeheldresponsiblewhenthebookisreturned.
2. Purchase - Some books are not rented, particularlypaperbacks,workbooks,orbooks for specializedor smallclasses.A studentmaywish to sell these books to otherstudentswhenheisfinishedwiththem.Thebookstoredoesnothandleusedbooksforresale.
textbook Assistance.Astudentwhoqualifiesforfreeorreducedlunchesduetofamilyincomemayalsoreceivestateadoptedtextmaterialatnocharge.Classfeesandothersupplementarymaterialmaybebilledtothestudent.Textbookassistanceapplicationsareavailableandshouldbeapprovedbytheearliestpartoftheschoolyearaspossible.Theapprovalisgoodfortheschoolyear.
Delinquent fees.Delinquentfeeswillbereported toStudentServices forcollectionunlessapaymentschedule isarrangedandcarriedoutattheBookstore.Thiswillbedonefourweeksafterthestartofeachsemester.Iffeesremainunpaid,thematterwillbe referred toSmallClaimscourt.Seniorsmusthaveallobligationscompletedoneweekbeforegraduationpractice.

4.0 stuDeNt ACtiVities4.1 election of Class officers.Shortlyafterschoolopensinthefall,
eachclasselectsofficersfortheyear.TheseincludeaPresident,Vice-President, Secretary, andTreasurer.Qualifications to beconsidered are personal integrity, responsibility, cooperation,willingnesstogivetime,andanaveragegradeof“C”orbetter.Candidatesmustbeofgoodstanding.
Procedures.TheelectionprocedureworkedoutbytheStudentCouncilallowssetperiodoftimeforthecompletecampaign.TheNominatingConventionismadeupofallAssemblymembers.Delegatesmaycontactpeoplewhomtheythinkwouldmakegoodclassofficersandaskthemtofileforanoffice,oranystudentwhowishestorunforanofficemayobtainafilingblankfromadelegateortheMainOffice.Fromthislistofcandidates,theclassnominatingconventionselectsaslateofthreepeopleforeachoffice.Duringthecampaignperiod,candidatesmayplacepostersinthehallsanddistributeinexpensivecampaignmaterials.Detailsandregulationsfornomination,campaigning,andelectionareprovidedbytheassistantprincipalforstudentactivities.

Studentsingoodstandingmaymakeapplicationforthegeneralelectionsinthespringforgrades10-12andthefallforgrade9.Aspecialworkonprocessisavailableforuptofourstudentsper grade in the fall as described in the StudentAssemblyConstitution.ElectionforStudentBodyOfficerswillinthespringandwill follow the election process described in the studentassemblyconstitutionandprocedures.
4.3 Performing Arts. TheBands.Theinstrumentalmusicdepartmentis structured to contain several specialized groups. Studentsenrolled inbandare required toparticipate in“TheSoundofNorth”marchingbandofColumbusNorthHighSchool.Theonlyexceptiontothisruleisstudentswhoparticipateinfallsports.Thefallsportstudentswillhaveotherrequirementstomakeupfortherehearsalsmissed.Followingthemarchingseason,“TheSoundofNorth”becomestheconcertband,symphonicband,andwindensemble,whichmeetduringregularscheduledclassrehearsals,BasketballPepBand,andMusicalPitOrchestra.Stringorchestraisforstudentswhoplaystringedinstrumentsonly.Windsandpercussion are taken from theband and rehearsals are beforeschool.

5.6 Permits to the Nurse’s office.Any student, except in anemergency,whowishestogototheNurse’sOffice,musthaveapermitissuedbytheteacherintheroomfromwhichthestudentwill be absent.Afterobtainingapermit from the teacher, thestudentgoesdirectlytotheNurse’sOffice.IncasetheNurse’sOfficeisclosed,studentsshouldreporttotheDeansOffice.

6.0 AthletiCs6.1 eligibility.The interscholastic athletic programatColumbus
NorthHighSchoolisgovernedbytherulesoftheIndianaHighSchoolAthleticAssociation.Torepresenttheschoolonanyoftheapproximately40athleticteams,astudentmust:1. Havereceivedpassinggradesinatleastsixfullcreditsubjects
or the equivalentduring the student’s last gradingperiod.Semestergradesshalltakeprecedence.
2. 16.4 sAt - reasoning test. Eachstudent,aspartofhiseducation,shouldlearnaccountabilityforactions,goodcitizenship,respectforlawandauthority,andself-discipline.Astudent’sdecisionmakingprocessshouldincludeconcernforsociety’sstandardsandexpectations, therightsofothers,and thestudent’spersonalvaluesystem,attitudes,andexperiences.Theroleofthedeanistoassistthestudentinhiseducationasadecisionmakerwhilemaintaininganatmosphereintheschoolthatisconducivetotheeducationofeachstudent.
32.1 uNexCuseD/susPeNsioN homeWorK PoliCy Studentsshallnotreceivecreditforanyworkmissedduringan
unexcusedabsenceorasuspension.However,iftheworkmissedonitsfacewouldcauseastudenttofail thecourse,thisworkmaybemade-up.(Youmayrequestmissedworktoassistyouonfuturelearningbeyondthesuspensionperiod.)
33.0 eNrollmeNt Anew studentwhohas taken residence in the school district

34.0 WithDrAWAl Any student,whowishes towithdraw from school for any
reasonmustdoso through theDean. Inallcases,a signaturefromthestudentandaparentorlegalguardianisrequired.TheDeanwillconductaquickinterviewandifawithdrawisstillbeing requestedby the student an exit interviewappointmentwiththePrincipalwillbecreated.Duringtheexitinterview,theschoolprincipalshallfollowthestepsdescribedintheprocedurelanguage listed below.Prior towithdrawing froma school astudentmust complete any obligations,whichmay includethosetoteachers,resourcescenters,thelibrary,thebookstore,andothers.TheDeansOfficeandGuidanceOffice shouldbecontactedassoonaspossiblebeforethewithdrawalmeeting.

Duringtheexitinterview,theschoolprincipalshallprovidetothestudentandthestudent’sparentacopyofstatisticscompiledby the department concerning the likely consequences of lifewithoutahighschooldiploma.Theschoolprincipalshalladvisethestudentandthestudent’sparentthatthestudent’swithdrawalfromschoolmaypreventthestudentfromreceivingorresultintherevocationofthestudent’semploymentcertificateanddriver’slicenseorlearner’spermit.
(c) Forpurposesofthissection,thefollowingmustbeinwrittenform:(1)Anindividual’srequesttowithdrawfromschool.(2)Aparent’sconsenttoawithdrawal.(3)Aprincipal’sconsenttoawithdrawal.
(d) Iftheindividual’sprincipaldoesnotconsenttotheindividual’swithdrawalunderthissection,theindividual’sparentmayappealthedenialofconsenttothegoverningbodyofthepublicschoolthattheindividuallastattended.
(e) Eachpublicschool,includingeachschoolcorporationandeach charter school (as defined in IC 20-24-1-4), shallprovideanannualreporttothedepartmentsettingforththefollowinginformation:(1)Thetotalnumberofindividuals:
(A)whowithdrewfromschoolunderthissection;and(B)whoeither:
(i) failed to return to school at the beginning of asemester;or
(ii) stoppedattendingschoolduringasemester;andforwhomthereisnorecordoftransfertoanotherschool.
(2)The number of individualswhowithdrew from schoolfollowinganexitinterview.
(f) Ifanindividualtowhichthissectionapplies:(1) hasnotreceivedconsenttowithdrawfromschoolunderthis
section;and(2) fails to return to schoolat thebeginningofa semesteror
during the semester; the principal of the school that theindividual last attended shall deliver by certifiedmail orpersonaldeliverytothebureauofchildlaborarecordoftheindividual’sfailuretoreturntoschoolsothatthebureauofchild labor revokesanyemploymentcertificates issued totheindividualanddoesnotissueanyadditionalemploymentcertificatestotheindividual.ForpurposesofIC20-33-3-13,theindividualshallbeconsideredadropout.

(g) Atthesametimethataschoolprincipaldeliverstherecordundersubsection (f), the principal shall deliver by certifiedmail orpersonaldeliverytothebureauofmotorvehiclesarecordoftheindividual’sfailuretoreturntoschoolsothatthebureauofmotorvehiclesrevokesanydriver’slicenseorlearner’spermitissuedtotheindividualanddoesnotissueanyadditionaldriver’slicensesorlearner’spermitstotheindividualbeforetheindividualisatleasteighteen(18)yearsofage.ForpurposesofIC9-24-2-1,theindividualshallbeconsideredadropout.
(h) If:(1) aprincipalhasdeliveredtherecordrequiredundersubsection
(f)or(g),orboth;and(2)theschoolsubsequentlygivesconsenttotheindividualto
withdrawfromschoolunderthissection;theprincipaloftheschoolshallsendanoticeofwithdrawaltothebureauofchildlaborandthebureauofmotorvehiclesbycertifiedmailorpersonaldeliveryand,forpurposesofIC20-33-3-13and IC9-24-2-1, the individual shall no longerbeconsideredadropout.
35.0 stuDeNt CommuNiCAtioN Administrative/studentannouncementswillbepresentedoverthe
BNNVideonetworkduringPeriod4.Duringtheschoolday,nomessageswillbedeliveredtoastudentexceptinanemergency,whenrequestedbyaparentorguardian.
36.0 stuDeNt VehiCles OnlyJuniorandSeniorstudentsmayusetheareasdesignatedfor
studentparkingandmustobeyparkinganddrivingregulations.Sophomoresandfreshmenmay notparkoncampuspropertyduringschoolhours.Studentsaretoleavetheirvehicleandtheparkinglotimmediatelyafterparkingandthenenterthebuilding.Studentsarenottobeintheparkinglotduringassignedschoolhourswithoutpermissionfromadeanorapassfromateacher.Studentsdrivingtoorfromthelotduringlunchmustdrivewithcautiontopedestriansandothercars.Administration/Deanswillreserve the right toalterparking/drivingprivilegesduring thecourseoftheyear.
Studentsmust park vehicles properly. Parking is limited andcourtesyisimportant.Illegalparking,parkinginrestrictedareas,parkinginnon-designatedareas,orblockingentrancesmayresultin disciplinary action.Students shall not at school, on schoolpropertyoratschoolactivitieshavevisibleontheirmotorvehicleanywrittenmaterial,eitherprintedorintheirownhandwriting,that is raciallydisruptiveorwouldcausea reasonablepersonto be intimidated. (Examples include but are not limited to:

37.0 CAfeteriA/luNCh Freshmenarerequiredtoeatandremaininthecafeteriaarea
duringtheassignedlunchperiod.Thecafeteriaareaincludesthecafeteria,theoutsidepatiojusttotheeastofthecafeteria,andthetwoadjacenthallwaysofthecafeteria.Students,whoremainoncampus,areexpectedtoconductthemselvesinapropermannerin the cafeteria. Studentmust return to campus and failuretodo socan result indetention, assigned seats, and/orotherdisciplinaryaction.Anystudentoncampusduringlunchperiodshouldremainindesignatedareasandexhibitproperbehavior.Traysandtrashmustbereturnedtodishroom-receivingarea.Studentschoosingtoleavecampusareexpectedtobehaveinan appropriatemanner and are subject to disciplinary actionshouldtheirbehaviorbecomedisruptive.Loiteringbusinessesand/orresidencemayresultinoffcampusprivileges.Students,whoreturntothebuildingwithfoodduringthelunchhour,mustgotothecaféviathepatioentrance.Lunchfoodshouldnotbeeateninthehallways.Studentsreturningtocampusinvehiclesmustvacatetheirvehiclesimmediatelyupontheirreturn.

39.0 AtteNDANCe The deans and teachers keep a record of punctuality and
attendance for each student.A studentmust attend assignedclassestobenefitfromtheideasdiscussedandtocarryouthisresponsibilityofcontributingtotheeducationofpeersandself.

Regularattendanceisexpectedforallstudents.TheStatelawrequiresattendanceforallstudentsunder16.Theofficialrecordforabsencesforanygivenperiodofthedayshallbetheteacher’srecords.Studentsshouldreportpromptlytoassignedfirstperiodclassatthebeginningofeachday.Anystudentwhoarrivesatschoolafter8:00AMshouldreportdirectlytotheDeansOffice.
Inordertoreceivecreditinanyclassastudentmustnotexceed6absencesina9-weekcourseor12absencesinasemestercourse.Additionalabsencesinacoursemayresultinwithdrawalfromtheclassandlossofcredit.Astudentwhoexceedsthe6absencesina9-weekcourseor12absencesinasemestercoursemayauditthecoursewithnocreditorgrade.Allschoolrulesapplytoastudentauditingaclass.

individual develophis/herpotential in an atmosphereof self-disciplined behavior.The careful regulation of student dressstylesistheresponsibilityoftheschool.Student/staffhealthandsafety, commondecency, student schoolwork,andschoolandclassroomorderareallaffected.Thisbasicdresscodedoesnotinfringeonstudents’rightsoffreedomofexpression,butratherencouragesstudentsto“dressforsuccess,”andcometoschoolproperlypreparedtoparticipateintheeducationalprocess.
Inkeepingwith theabovephilosophy,and inorder to reducemisunderstanding,inappropriateschoolwearincludes,butisnotlimitedto,thefollowing:

Violatethe“On-lineAcceptableUsePolicy”(Seesection51.0);alter,change,oruseanyotherelectronicmethodtoenter,control,change,orviewanypartoftheBCSCnetwork.Thisincludesoperating and controlling software for individual computersoroperatingandcontrollingsoftwareor serversorassociateddevices.StudentsshallnotuseBCSCtechnologythatmayresultinthedisruptionoftheschoolprocess.

thestudentbodyoranysignificantsegmentofthestudentbodyshallnotifythebuildingprincipal(oradesignee)oftheirintentandobtainhisapprovaltodistributeatleasttwoschooldayspriortothetimeoftheplanneddistribution.
Ifdistributionisapproved,studentsmaydistributeattheentrancesorexitsduringthethirty(30)minutetimeperiodimmediatelybeforethecommencementofschooloraftertheendoftheschoolday.Studentsmayalsodistributeduringaschool’slunchhourin the school’s lunch room,or froma locationdesignatedbythebuildingprincipal.Studentsmaynotdistributeatanyotherlocations(includingclassrooms)oratanyothertimeswithoutthepermissionoftheprincipal.

Violationsofparaphernaliawithresiduemayresultinsuspensionorexpulsionfromschool.Suchstudentsmaybesubjecttothesame school and legal rules that cover using, distributing, orpossessingasubstancethatlookslikeorisrepresentedtobeacontrolledorillicitsubstance.
Violations of paraphernaliawithout residuemay result indetention,suspension,orexpulsionfromschool.1. 1stOffense:detention,in-schoolsuspensionorcomparable

to offer its students access to the Internet.The Internet isan electronic highway connecting hundreds of thousands ofcomputersandmillionsofindividualusersallovertheworld.This computer technologywill help prepare our students forworkinthe21stcenturybyallowingstudentsandstafftoaccessand use resources fromdistant computers, communicate andcollaboratewithotherindividualsandgroupsaroundtheworld,andsignificantlyexpandtheiravailableinformationbase.TheInternetisatoolforlife-longlearning.
B. FamiliesshouldbeawarethatsomematerialaccessibleviatheInternetmay contain some items that are illegal, defamatory,inaccurate,orpotentiallyoffensivetosomepeople.Inaddition,itispossibletopurchasecertaingoodsorservicesviatheInternetwhichcouldresultinunwantedfinancialobligationsforwhichastudent’sparentorguardianwouldbeliable.

WhiletheCorporation’sintentistomakeInternetaccessavailablein order to further educational goals and objectives, studentsmayfindwaystoaccessothermaterialsaswell.EvenshouldtheCorporationinstitutetechnicalmethodsorsystemstoregulatestudents’ Internet access, thosemethods could not guaranteecompliancewiththeCorporation’sacceptableusepolicy.That,notwithstanding, theCorporationbelieves that the benefits tostudentsofaccesstotheInternetexceedanydisadvantages.
Ultimately, however, parents and guardians ofminors areresponsible for setting and conveying the standards that theirchildren should followwhen usingmedia and informationsources.Towardsthatend,theBartholomewConsolidatedSchoolCorporationmakestheCorporation’scompleteInternetpolicyandproceduresavailableonrequestforreviewbyallparents,guardians,andothermembersofthecommunity,andprovides

52.0 motor VehiCle/AtteNDANCe PoliCy Astudentwhoisexpelledfromschoolorwhoissuspendedfrom
schoolasecond timeinaschoolyear,orwhohaswithdrawnforanyreasonotherthanfinancialhardship,mustbereportedtotheBureauofMotorVehiclesforthepurposeofinvalidatingany driver’s license or permitwhich has been issued to thestudent. If requested, theprincipalwillmeetwith the studentandhisparenttodeterminefinancialhardship.Inthecaseofanexpulsion,secondsuspensionfromschool,orwithdrawal, thestudent’slicenseorlearner’spermitwillbeinvalidatedfor120daysortheendofthesemester(whicheverislonger)oruntilthestudentreachestheageof18.

(b) EachgoverningbodyshallestablishandincludeaspartofthewrittencopyofitsdisciplinerulesdescribedinIC20-33-8-12:(1)adefinitionofachildwhoisdesignatedasahabitualtruant,
whichmust, at aminimum,define the termas a studentwhoischronicallyabsent,byhavingunexcusedabsencesfromschoolformorethanten(10)daysofschoolinone(1)schoolyear;
(2) the procedures under which subsection (a) will beadministered;and
(3) allotherpertinentmattersrelatedtothisaction.(c) An individual described in subsection (a) is entitled to the
proceduredescribedinIC20-33-8-19.(d) Anindividualdescribedinsubsection(a)whoisatleastthirteen
(13)yearsofageandlessthaneighteen(18)yearsofageisentitledtoaperiodicreviewoftheindividual’sattendancerecordinschooltodeterminewhethertheprohibitiondescribedinsubsection(a)shallcontinue.Theperiodicreviewsmaynotbeconductedlessthanone(1)timeeachschoolyear.
(e) Upon review, the governing bodymay determine that theindividual’sattendancerecordhasimprovedtothedegreethattheindividualmaybecomeeligibletobeissuedanoperator’slicenseoralearner’spermit.
(f) Before:(1)February1;and(2)October1;
ofeachyearthegoverningbodyoftheschoolcorporationshallsubmittothebureauofmotorvehiclesthepertinentinformationconcerninganindividual’sineligibilityundersubsection(a)tobeissuedanoperator’slicenseoralearner’spermit.
(g) The department shall develop guidelines concerning criteriausedindefiningahabitualtruantthatmaybeconsideredbyagoverningbodyincomplyingwithsubsection(b).
