Hello! I’m Sheryl.

I’ve been volunteering as a graphic designer for Colosoul the past few months. Working here has been an awesome experience. It’s a wonderful feeling when you get to see your works published. I’ve just finished giving the Colosoul website a whole new look. do check it out if you haven’t!

I’ve wanted to be a designer from the age of 7. I knew then that I could go anywhere armed with my pencil. nothing much has changed although my palette has expanded to include electronic brushes. The advertising industry fascinates me and I look forward to working in that field.

Hi my name is maeve. I have been volunteering at Colosoul as assistant editor of the e-Zine for the past 3 months. It has been a great experience seeing some of my own work being published and helping other students gain exposure.

I study at Curtin and am in my final semester of a media and information degree majoring in journalism. I am hoping to go overseas next year and write about my travels.

my passions are travelling cooking and writing, so I am hoping to combine these interests and find lots of great stories while away.

I’m thrilled to be onboard with Colosoul, there are some fantastic events coming up so keep reading to hear all about them.

FaSHion Heir is the go-to company if you are looking for a doorway into the fashion industry. It is a new and innovative business based in east Perth, its focuses on branding and advertising to support

and develop the businesses that are establishing and expanding in the Fashion industry.monique Varnavides and her business partner Luo Qi established this company two years ago noticing there was a gap in the market. Both having worked as promoters in the entertainment industry they noticed each other’s significant networking skills via Facebook.

They worked on a number of projects together before forming FaSHion Heir. Utilising the combination of Luo Qi’s creativity and moniques business sense they decided start FaSHion Heir hoping to work towards a mutual goal of building “an empire that can empower the Perth Fashion Industry”.

Specialising in Branding and advertising for businesses within the fashion industry FaSHion Heir offers ; Consulting (branding, business, advertising), copywriting, graphic design, hair/ makeup, photography, styling, videography and web development services- everything you could possibly need to get started.

“We have a one –shop-stop attitude, through these integrated services we are able to offer complete development packages to people wanting to start their own business,” monique said.

monique Varnavides owner manager said it is important for small businesses to support each other, she thinks why do it alone when you can do it with the support of other businesses.

one business that FaSHion Heir is currently working with is a new fitness company called “The Jungle Body”. This client wanted to create a Perth based fitness company that offers a “fun, fit & wild” approach to fitness.

FaSHion Heir assisted with the development of logo’s, photographic development, branded images, advertising campaigns, website and videos. With their help they were able to launch “The Jungle Body” to the public in June.

“We are very excited to assist in taking the fitness world by storm in a fashionable way,” monique said.

The team at FaSHion Heir have spent the last two years networking and developing solid business affiliations in Wa. If not busy enough monique is currently diversifying her business focus and looking to establish an online media channel, as well as her own business consulting agency, and an advertising sales agency.

She wants to develop a program that supports up and coming designers giving them the opportunity to get into boutiques and expand Wa’s Fashion Industry and put Perth on the map.

crowned festival of the year at music week awards held in the uk, creamfields finally made its way to our shores for the very first time!

equipped with an internationally renowned line up, festival-heads celebrated upon hearing the announcement of Creamfields making its debut in australia.

after a quick tour of Claremont showgrounds, I made my way towards the outrage stage to commence the day with Green Velvet straight from the USa, followed by dirty South who rocked the crowd with dirty electro and house anthems. despite it being only 4pm, the strobe lights were in full effect as the event was indoors and masses of people quickly

began filling up robinson Pavilion.

Hailing from La, LmFao stepped up next, bringing a touch of hip-hop to Creamfields with a mix of electro-house beats. They worked the crowd with their hit single “I’m in miami Bitch” and soon everyone was screaming “Shots Shots Shots” and dancing in sync with the golden robot up on stage!mSTrKrFT followed, although a bit of a slow start, their set built up and soon the dance floor was flooded and pumping again to the tunes of “Heartbreaker”.

“Ferry! Ferry! Ferry!” was now all you could hear as the crowd started chanting the name of a very old and familiar name intrance,Ferry corsten!

down my body! definitely the start of a very impressive set from the world’s #7 dJ!

Ferry Corsten was definitely the highlight of my day here at Creamfields! Playing old school tracks such as “made of Love”, “radio Crash” and “Brainbox”, the venue was filled with energy as the crowd sang and hummed along to his beats. Unfortunately, his set was cut short 15 mins, as halfway through “rock Your Body, rock” his track skipped and there was a problem with the sound system. nevertheless, an amazing 1 hour and 45 minute set from Ferry Corsten, as Steve angello had pulled out from Creamfields last minute due to family reasons.

It was now time for the Bloody Beetroots to rock the stage and finish off the night at outrage. Screams of enthusiasm flooded the air as they stepped on stage

and rocked the venue with their live band. much head banging and jumping was the general movement within the Beetroots crowd!

Fortunate enough to see the Beetroots play live twice before, I quickly made my way to the Cream stage at the Jim Webster Pavilion to watch marco V finish off the night with some hard progressive trance. Performing tracks such as “Unprepared” and “Find Yourself” I found myself shuffling the night away with many other trance lovers.

overall, it was an amazing day with an awesome line up!

TraInS and TranSPorT InFraSTrUCTUre HaVe aLWaYS Been a CanVaS For GraFFITI, SHoWCaSInG YoUTH’S deSIre To LeaVe THeIr marK on SoCIeTY. Public Transport authorities have

used advertising campaigns and put out many warnings however these are yet to deter vandals from defacing public areas.

The Public Transport authority (PTa) have identified 10 [ten] notorious graffiti hotspots along the network and commissioned professional artists to work alongside youth to create urban art.

Urban art is legal work, where permission has been granted by the owner of the property.The Urban arts project was launched in 2008 when local commuters were complaining about the obscene graffiti when the line to mandurah opened.

The project co-ordinator, rachael Cochrane said it was evident that there was a lot of skill out there but scratching and tagging territory is not a display of this.

Well known graffartists wereasked to work on these projects

as mentors to the youth, artists that were familiar with the canvassed suburbs and know the struggles of vandalism versus expression.

renowned artists Stormie mills was a mentor on the Hilman Footbridge in rockingham assisted by British guest artist, remi Timidentor and daren Hutchens from dazart who also assisted with several of the projects.

annually thousands of dollars was being spent on removing the vandalism.

The Urban arts programme not only neutralised the cleanup cost but also put something beautiful into the community.

The latest project is looking to revitalise the Thornlie train station. The winner of the 2010 Urban arts competition will have the opportunity to help develop the new station concept and along with other youth legally spray.

FITTING IN EXERCISE CAN BE HARD FOR SOME

It’s a word that either makes you cringe and fills you with dread or happily gets you bouncing out of bed in the morning for that 5k run.

Then there are the people who don’t necessarily hate or love exercise but make sure they fit it in because they know that it’s good for them.

We all recognise that a decent amount of exercise a week improves one’s well being, but what exactly makes exercise so important that it’s continuously being drilled into us to get off our butt.

For starters exercise is undoubtedly the best thing you can do for your health. It carries numerous benefits, including weight maintenance, gives people more energy, helps you get a better nights sleep, reduces the risk of developing diabetes, can assist in stress management and

can also help prevent depression.

With all these advantages that exercise provides you think university students would put aside half an hour a day to reap the rewards that exercise has to offer. However with heavy work loads, most university students struggle with fitting in part time work let alone exercising.

The pressure associated with assignments and exams is enough to put exercise at the bottom of the priority list. Hayley moland a third year Human Biology student at Curtin University agrees, saying she is so bombarded with uni work that exercise is the last thing on her mind.

“I’m at uni 6 days a week all day long and when I get home I usually have to study and do assignments. I also work 15 hours a week so I’m always so flat out that there’s no time for me to exercise.”

other students are adamant of not letting uni get in the way of their exercise regime. Sean Joseph a 1st year phycology student at eCU says that exercise

helps him to clear his mind when uni gets too much.

“I always have a lot of study but I find that when I exercise I can focus more on my studies, it lowers my stress levels so that things don’t get too much. I go for half hour runs at least 4 times a week, I just feel better inside and out”.

Whatever your preference is when it comes to exercise, just remember that it’s never too late to start.
