Color Names

(Preschool to Elementary Students)

The purpose of this lesson is to engage the students in learning different

colors by teaching them a color song and then using a game to review these

colors.

1. 2 min: “Everyday Common Greetings” exercise

2. 5 min: Introduce colors

a. red, blue, green, orange, yellow, purple, brown, and black

3. 15 min: Color Song (reference: BusyBeavers.com)

4. 20 min: Activities/Homework

a. Fly swatter game: in teams of two, students compete against each

other at swatting the correct color called. During the game, the

teacher would ask the students an English sentence that relates to

the color that was called. The team that swats the most correct

colors wins.

i. Materials: poster board(s) with various objects on it that are

different colors (flowers, hats, coats, toys, etc.), two fly

swatters

ii. English sentence for the game

o What color is the (object)?

o The (object) is (name of color)

a. Example: What color is the flower?

The flower is red.
