Creating and Revising Course SLOs

Remembering: Can the student recall or remember the information? define, duplicate, list, memorize, recall, repeat, reproduce, state

Understanding: Can the student explain ideas or concepts? classify, describe, discuss, explain, identify, locate, recognize, report, select, translate, paraphrase

Applying: Can the student use the information in a new way? choose, demonstrate, dramatize, employ, illustrate, interpret, operate, schedule, sketch, solve, use, write

Analyzing: Can the student distinguish between the different parts? appraise, compare, contrast, criticize, differentiate, discriminate, distinguish, examine, experiment, question, test

Evaluating: Can the student justify a stand or decision? appraise, argue, defend, judge, select, support, value, evaluate

Creating: Can the student create new product or point of view? assemble, construct, create, design, develop, formulate, write

Department of Education• In 2011, Department of Education required all colleges to define a credit hour and determine credit hour: contact hour ratios. CCC and Deans Council together created and approved the credit hour ratio document in February 2012• 8 course types (theory (1:1), lab, clinical, internship, and practicum (1:3), studio (1:2), field exp., and clinical intensive(1:4)

• Since 2012, schools have been bringing their courses into one of these course types, or designing theory + lab or clinical hours.

Financial Aid

Course SLOs must be at the high school level or higherCourses must be required for entry into a course or program or be required or approved in a qualified programCertificate programs at public institutions must prepare students for gainful employment in a recognized occupation. A program would be considered to lead to gainful employment if it meets at least one of three metrics that have to do with cost of the program and projected earnings of the graduate.

Curricular Process TimelineBy 3rd Friday in August (21st) – New programs and substantially revised programs are entered into curriculum management system (CMS)By Friday, 3 weeks prior to each school’s CCC presentation date – New courses, course revisions, deactivations and program modifications are entered into CMSBy Friday, 2 weeks prior to school’s presentation date – school’s meet with Enrollment Services and Financial AidBy Friday, 1 week prior to school’s presentation date – school’s dean, ES, FA and CCC review By Thursday before presentation, follow up review by each schoolBy 2 weeks after presentation, schools make changes to CMS based on CCC recommendations

October 16th – SAGE – CMS Entry by September 25th October 23rd – AT – CMS Entry by October 2nd

October 30th – HWPS – CMS Entry by October 9th November 6th – BIT – CMS Entry by October 16th November 13th – CHSS – CMS Entry by October 23rd November 20th – MSE – CMS Entry by October 3oth

See you in October!• All presentations will begin at 8:30 (please be prompt!) in MS 301 and will end by 11:30 (some will end sooner and some will likely take the whole time)• Ipads will be available for your use• If your school is having a faculty meeting on a presentation

day, 2 faculty members will be allowed to attend CCC presentation.• If you must miss a presentation, please inform other reps from

your school to assure that at least 2 faculty members from each school attend each presentation• If a voting member misses 3 presentations in a row, s/he may

be removed from the membership• Voting will take place via email
