College Visits
● Get out and visit campus!
● Register online or call admissions office.
● What to ask?■ What student clubs are available?
■ What housing and meal plan options are available?
■ Are there separate deadlines for admission and scholarship applications?
■ Are certain majors more competitive to gain admission to than others?
Rep Visits
● KHS will have College Reps visiting all year!
● Students will be able to see on Naviance when certain
reps will be at school!
● Sign-up via Naviance to visit different schools.

College Essay
● Most college applications require at least one essay,
including the Common App.
● Many colleges require additional writing pieces, make
sure you are aware of what is required by each college!
● This is how the college gets to know the student!
● Don’t be afraid to ask for help!
Standardized Testing
● It is up to the student to send ACT/SAT scores to
appropriate schools. Do this FIRST.. Do not wait until the
END!!!

● Check with colleges for last accepted test date!
○ Example: Ohio State will accept the September 14th
ACT for November 1st deadline.
Letters of Recommendation
● Number of needed letters vary by school.
(Recommendation is at least 1-2 letters per student)
● Students request teachers on Naviance, Teachers upload
via Naviance.
● Students should ask teachers in advance of deadlines.

College-specific application: Completed on college’s website.

Transcript
● Official record of student academic performance submitted via
counselor on Naviance.
● Must be requested by student AFTER application has been
submitted!○ Requests are sent via e-mail: [email protected]
○ Counselor's Name in Subject
○ Put school name and date application was submitted in body of e-mail.
● KHS needs TWO WEEKS for processing materials!
Common Application (CommonApp.Org)
● Merges with Naviance.
● Most popular application option from schools.
● More than 800 colleges use the Common Application.
● Step-by-step application process.
● Counselor cannot view the Common Application unless
with the student.

Types of Admission● Regular/Traditional: Notification begins early Spring.
● Rolling: Notification generally 6-10 weeks after.
● Early Action (Non-Binding): Usually due November,
notification in December or January.
● Early Decision (Binding): The application promises to
attend school if they are accepted.

Important to Know…
● Almost immediately after students submit application,
you will receive an automatic response from college.
● Please remember, it does take time!
● You can always contact the school if it has been at least
two weeks since you have requested your transcript to
confirm they have received the transcript!
Financial Aid and Scholarships● Many schools no longer require a separate application for
scholarships and grants.
