The Department of Mechanical Engineering is one of the earliest departments in CIT, started in the year 1956. For about six decades the department has mentored and produced eminent personalities. We would like to give you a glimpse of what CIT has contributed to the society through our alumni.

A mission to MARS! India, ISRO in particular has become the fourth agency to reach Mars, the red planet. Mangalyaan is the first inter-planetary mission in India and would you believe that CIT has an indirect contribution to it. Er. Subbiah Arunan, Project Director of India’s Mars Orbiter Mission is an alumnus of CIT. He graduated from Coimbatore Institute of Technology in 1984 as a Mechanical Engineer. The Government of India had honored him with the prestigious Padma Shri award in the year 2015 for his contributions to the Mars Orbiter Mission of Indian Space Research Organization. At the Service of Nation!

One cannot forget the famous words of John F Kennedy – “Ask not what your country

can do for you – ask what you can do for your country”. It is indeed honourable to work for the

nation but is it not far more superior to defend the nation at one’s own cost, self-less sacrifice.

CIT takes pride in its alumnus Rear Admiral S Nedunchezian who served the Indian

Navy for about 36 years. With more than 35 years of experience on board naval ships, machinery

trials teams, warship construction overseeing team, naval dockyard and Naval Headquarters as

no.2 in the Technical Branch, heading the field Unit Naval Ship Repair Yard with more than

1000 workforce was his unique experience where he could put forth a vision for "Transformation

to Smart Yard" and direct / guide the organisation to build infrastructure, computerise and

automate, ensure excellent QC and train the valuable manpower to be in date with latest

induction of machinery, equipment and technology and at the same time be conscious of

environment, energy conservation and implementation of Green Initiatives. During his tenure,

the yard had won the Chief of Naval Staff Trophy for Best HRD Practices consecutively for two

years.

CIT finds a Bureaucrat

A topper of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, this guy is very studious but not

bookish. It would suit him to call “A Jack of All Trades”. He had been the Students Union

Chairman in the year 2013-2014. He is well known for his oratorical skills and dance

performances. He had administration skills naturally and one cannot forget him as Chairman of

the Technovation programme an inter-college technical symposium. Known to all students and

staffs in the college, always with a smile in his face and an attitude to march forward without any

fear has been an inspiration to many. Mr C V Praveen Aditya has secured 79th

rank in the UPSC

Civil Services Examination 2016. One more feather in the cap of CIT, Mr C V Praveen Aditya is

an alumnus of CIT. He completed his B.E., Mechanical Engineering from Coimbatore Institute

of Technology in 2014.

We love CRICKET!

This cricketer from TamilNadu represented India in seven One Day Internationals (ODIs)

during 1988–90. He made his debut on 10th

December 1988 against New Zealand. He has played

for Tamil Nadu and Goa at the domestic level. Making his First-class debut in 1986 for Tamil

Nadu, he went on to play for the side till 1995. He has captained Tamil Nadu for a short period

before playing for Goa. All in all, he scored 4,999 runs from 81 matches and recognized as an

"aggressive" player. In 2012, he was appointed as the coach of Tamil Nadu. He has also served

as the Chairman of Ranji Selection Committee. He is also a commentator and now runs a cricket

academy in Chennai.

It is none other than Er V B Chandrasekhar who is an alumnus of CIT. He has completed his

B.E., Mechanical Engineering from Coimbatore Institute of Technology in 1986.

Emerging Tennis

Tennis is a sport that is emerging and growing at a faster rate at India. With Indian

players bringing laurels to the nation, this CITian has devoted himself in shaping and coaching

young budding tennis players from Tamilnadu.

Mr K G Ramesh - A No.1 Tennis player in India is recognized as a former National

Champion and former world Railways Champion. He is currently the head coach of K G Ramesh

Tennis Academy in Coimbatore which he founded along with Mr G Sree Hari. He has played

tennis at the highest level in India and has been coaching for the past 15 years. He has

represented India at the Asian Games in Seol in 1986. He is also a gold medal winner at the SAF

games held in Dhaka in 1993. Recently he had represented India in the World Veterans

Championship held in Helsinki. He focuses on the advanced and tournament players in the

academy.

CIT inculcates engineering knowledge but also instills an individual’s responsibility towards

society. It is said that Service to man is Service to God.

Apart from offering education to the deprived class of society CIT has also mentored leaders

at the national level. Let us see an example.

He is a technocrat with a brilliant academic record who chose to serve the nation by entering

politics. He was a member of Parliament from Nilgiris constituency and was the former Union

Minister of State for Fertilizers in the Department of Agriculture. He has also served as a Member,

Committee on Energy. He is currently in business and social work for the upliftment of the poor and

economic development of the nation.

He is none other than Mr R Prabhu, an alumnus of CIT. He has completed his B.E.,

Mechanical Engineering from Coimbatore Institute of Technology in 1968.

Meet the Moghul in South Indian Film Industry

Prasad group is the largest chain of post-production facilities in India with a total of 12

delivery units located in all the major film production centers of India such as Mumbai,

Hyderabad, Chennai, Bangalore, Thiruvananthapuram, Bhuvaneswar, Kolkata and has an

overseas presence in Singapore, Dubai and United States. It has also won the Kerala State Film

Award for Best Processing Lab 9 times over the last 3 decades.

Prasad group is one of the major equipment and film facilities in India for feature film

and advertising post production. Prasad Group works in feature films, film and video restoration

and advertising commercial production. Prasad is active in shooting Floors, shooting equipment,

film processing and printing, telecine, editing, audio, graphics (VFX), digital intermediate (DI),

digital film restoration, DVD authoring, release printing, format conversions and Digital Cinema

services.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering in Coimbatore Institute of

Technology takes pride in its successful entrepreneurs who are creating jobs and serving

Er M Khandaswami is currently the Managing Director of Ananda Fabrications Pvt Ltd,

Coimbatore. He has also served as Former President, CODISSIA, Coimbatore. His company exports

basic machinery for car assembly units to many foreign Countries. In line with the vision of Prof.

P.R.R and President of India, he keeps educating poor children. Er M Khandaswami is an alumnus of

CIT. He graduated as a Mechanical Engineer in 1967.

Er M Durairajan is currently the Managing Director of MM Engineers Private Limited,

Coimbatore. MM Engineers was established in the year 1978, and has been in the line of

manufacturing Material Handling Equipment’s. MM Engineers has designed and developed

cranes and hoists for various applications, ranging from most specialized application such as

Incell Cranes, Cranes to handle critical materials, Cranes to handle nuclear wastes, cranes with

minimum headroom, and side clearances, etc. to Standardized cranes. MM also supplies latest

down shop lead system, crane accessories and after hook attachments. Er M Durairajan is an

alumnus of CIT. He completed his B.E., Mechanical Engineering from Coimbatore Institute of

Technology in 1975.

Er C Muthusami is the Managing Partner and Chief Executive Officer of Stark Motors,

Coimbatore. Stark Motors is into the manufacture of electric motors. Initially started with the

manufacture of small FHP motors, the industry now manufactures single phase motors, NEMA

standard motors, Vibrator motors, motors suitable for Variable Frequency Drives(inverter

application). The industry has been awarded ISO- 9001 in 2000 and CE as well

Er.U.M.Sivanathan is currently the Managing Director of Sanpreet Castings Private

Limited, Coimbatore. The industry serves as a component and sub assembly source to all leading

iron castings consumers with a primary focus to Power plant equipment manufacturers,

Industrial valves, pumps and compressor manufacturers, Gear boxes and actuator manufacturers

for industrial valve applications. The industry has been supplying high quality grey iron, ductile

iron and their austenitic grade castings to a variety of industries in the global market.

Dr.V.Rajamanickam is currently the Managing Director of Iyappan Engineering

Industries Private Limited, Chennai. Started in the year 1972 as Iyappan Industries, the company

has been catering Quality products and services to various customers in the power, railway and

automobile sectors. The company acquired its present name IEIPL (Iyappan Engineering

Industries Pvt. Ltd.) in 1992. The 45-year-old company with rich experience specializes in

manufacturing of Precision hydraulic assemblies, Servo Valves & Blocking elements for HP

Bypass System. The industry also provides service & spare parts for Thermal Power Plants.

Marine & Agro Exports Ltd. And Victoria Fresh Seaford (P) Ltd both at Chennai. His company

exports seafood to Japan, USA and EU to the tune of USD 16 million. His company owns a

deep-sea fishing vessel and an EU approved processing plant. He is a member of Chennai

Fishing Harbour Managing Committee and State Aquarian Policy, State Planning Commission.

Mr E P Mohammed Basheer and Mr T Joseph Mathew are the Managing Partners of

INSTA3D company. INSTA3D Technologies is shaping ideas by helping researchers, engineers

and health experts expand human knowledge with the aid of advanced technology (3D Printing).

We are fueling the next generation projects of innovation through our work in Automotive,

Medical, Industrial, Architectural, Engineering and Education verticals. The company offers

training programs in the field of 3D printing to school and college students. They also print the

specified design in a variety of materials.

Aanooraa Inc was founded in the year 2014 as a proprietorship company. The company is

inevitable”, says a quote. That is what we believe here in our department at CIT. A few examples
