EVALUATION CONFERENCE BUDAPEST 2015

The annual conference 2015 was held on 22nd -24th, April in Budapest bringing together 142 staff members and 58 students. Conference theme was 'Health and Social Care Perspectives for a Sustainable Future’, with four sub-theme areas: Global partnerships for health and social care education; Innovative and sustainable teaching for health and social care education; New challenges in health and social care services; and Equity in health and social care. There were altogether 61 submitted abstracts in the categories of Research Studies, Practice Development & Innovative Projects or Workshops. In total there were 26 oral presentations and 4 workshops in 11 parallel sessions and 14 presented posters in the conference. From the next figure you can see the final composition of presentations in each category. It is noticeable that Practice Development & Innovative Projects presentations were more frequent than Research Studies.

General impression and satisfaction of the conference

Altogether 62 staff participants responded to the conference feedback questionnaire. The evaluation has been summarized below. When considering the general impressions on the conference, the responses were very positive. The quality of conference organization, the opportunity to make contacts for future collaborations in the field of work and the relevance of the conference for the work in education was highly valued. The intention to attend the next year’s conference and the worth of investment were also highly rated.

Implications for future conferences

The number of received responses was only 62 out of 142 registered staff participants. The response rate seems to stay low year after year and needs to be paid attention to.

Semmelweis University deserves compliments to the high quality conference. The received feedback from the staff showed an overall satisfaction with the quality of the conference, organization, program, hospitality, and experienced that it was worth of coming to the conference. Particularly the conference succeeded in highlighting the phenomenon of European social exclusion and poverty, the topic that will have increasing importance in higher education in health and social care.

The deans’ day has become an essential part of the conference and this year it was found useful, interesting and empowering. One respondent commented the day by saying: “Let’s deans prepare topics, maybe all deans can present their vision and policy on internationalization next time and from there discuss the way how the role of COHEHRE could be”. As strategic managers of their home institutions, deans should be seen as promoters of internationalization of the European social and health care education.

The participants named workshops, oral presentations and keynotes interesting and important. However this year’s evaluation showed again the importance of the annual conference as an event that provides opportunities for networking, meeting project partners and finding new partners. Year after year this seems to be one of the most valuable aspects of the conference as expressed by one conference respondents: “Establishment of new contacts with international partners … The opportunity to network with others with the aim of future teaching and research collaboration was the best part”.

The Cohehre Conference experience in Budapest can be followed on the blog of of Anja Stofberg (University of Rotterdam), who participated in the staff conference: http://socialtravellog.blogspot.nl/2015/04/cohehre-revisited.html?m=1

At the Cohehre Conference, Deans had the unique opportunity to meet and discuss about topics of common interest. For this edition in Budapest, again there was a growing number of the management who took this chance. As keynote speaker, Annemie Van den Dries (Erasmus+ expert, Belgium) presented possibilities for European funding. “Know your national agency, set up a strategy, follow the experts, make structural partnerships, try to include Southern and Eastern European partners, be patient and don’t let them discourage you”, were some valuable recommendations that Annemie brought up. The afternoon program was adjusted for the Deans in order to discuss how they are all developing their international and internationalisation strategies. Tiina Niemi (Research and PR-manager, The Netherlands) presented her research for Study Portals and the data were discussed and questioned. Kim Bisschop (Manager External Relations, Netherlands) then shared a video of the work which is being undertaken at Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences. Ways of triple and quadruple helix ways of working in all participating universities were discussed. All presentations are available online: http://semmelweis.hu/cohehre2015/program/presentations/ All participants were convinced that the Cohehre network could add significantly to further joint curriculum development and joint international research. Connecting all staff members, researchers and the management is core business for Cohehre. This active networking, through regular meetings and growing mutual trust, will undoubtedly strengthen future international cooperation. As a strong and reliable network, Cohehre must continue playing a vital role in this great European process Jeroen Martens Dean – Arteveldehogeschool - Belgium

All SEASON’S COURSES 2015-2016 During the past 15 years many Cohehre partners cooperated in developing different courses for students and staff. These I-3 courses focus on International-Interdisciplinary-Intercultural cooperation within health care and rehabilitation. The different International Courses on Health Care Issues (ICHCI) initiated by the Cohehre Academy are certainly an example of good practice in interprofessional cooperation. Other courses have a more specialised focus on innovative topics such as active ageing, end-of-life care, creative thinking etc. As the Intensive Programs are not included anymore in ERASMUS+ funding, all mobility projects had to make a reorientation towards new formats, new organization and another involvement of partners. As there are no student grants for short term mobility anymore, students or institutions have to contribute with their own resources in order to participate. Most of the courses are organized low-cost in a format of IP-light: distance learning for preparatory work and 5-6 working days face-to-face. Staff members can apply through their institutions for Erasmus staff mobility grants.

Within the Cohehre Academy we agreed to open the courses for Cohehre partner institutions. If your institution, teachers or students, have an interest to join, you can contact the project coordinator of the international course to check if there are still places available.

There is a wide variability in developing community mental health services, partly connected to the economic development. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OFi2aoUz5_M Description: Nature and adventure as Therapy Method is a course with two main aims. The first aim is to get experiences of how to use possibilities of everyday natural environment when working with clients. You will learn why, how and when to use different kind of activities in natural environment in a client centered and safe way and how to create - in a best possible situation –meaningful experiences with your clients. The second aim is to empower students to reflect themselves as a person and as a becoming professional. The context where you have to be without phones and technology surrounded by others is a perfect environment for that. You are challenged to concentrate to reflect who you are as a person with others and with nature and what that could mean from the point of view on conscious use of self as professional. Method: Students will work as interprofessional and intercultural teams. These teams will start working about one month before the intensive camp. For preparatory work students and teachers will use as platform and meeting places different ways of social media. Intensive camp will be for four days in East-North of Finland in the middle of wilderness. After camp each student/ pair will make their reflection with the way and method they prefer to do it. Everyone is expected to take equal responsibility of participating all parts of the course.

Description: This International Programme will focus on ‘Paediatric rehabilitation’ as a central theme. During the course we focus on the different aspects of the early childhood and development, the medical interventions and the rehabilitation of children within the setting of the hospital, but also on the inclusion of clients within the society. The programme will focus especially on the rehabilitation of children with developmental and acquired brain injuries. (locomotor and neurological pathologies). This new international module wants to develop and identify a dedicated interdisciplinary module between different hospitals in Europe and higher education, dealing with the specialised approach in child rehabilitation. This course is a spin-off of an international module organised for 8 years in Ghent between the Child Rehabilitation Department, University hospital Ghent, the University of Ghent and different universities of Applied Sciences in Ghent. The course is based on the ICF-framework. (International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health). A basic knowledge is required before starting the module.

ZURICH UNIVERSITY OF APPLIED SCIENCES (ZHAW), Switzerland Dear colleagues A new Bachelor's degree programme in Health Promotion and Prevention (Public Health) is currently being developed at the School of Health Professions at the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW). Minor Global Health & Quantified Self

The minor Global Health & Quantified Self concerns aspects of globalization and health, linked to digital health and self tracking. Are you interested in the most recent developments in this very broad field and the opportunities and challenges this brings? Are you innovative within your field of work and do you have a multidisciplinary mind-set? Do you want to work with different cultures, globalization and quantified self? Then the minor Global Health & Quantified Self is the minor for you! The minor Global Health & Quantified Self (30 ECTS) is an international (exchange) education program that offers you the unique opportunity to familiarize yourself with the increasingly globalized world, digitalisation and its effects on health. The minor focuses on trends in digital health (care) viewed from a global perspective and the challenges that we, as health professionals, face over the next 10 years. How do these developments relate to the desire to live longer while staying healthy and active while we age? How can we ooperate on an international level to organize prevention and self-management? How do we implement digital health solutions to encourage healthy behaviour and structure in health care in such a way that everybody receives the care he or she needs? The three pillars within this programme are:

1. Global Health, Globalization, International Organizations & International Cooperation; 2. Culture and Health; 3. Digital Health and Quantified Self

Quantified Self concentrates on the increasing, worldwide development of technical applications to support self-monitoring by individuals. This promotes self-knowledge through self-measurement and gives you personal health information about aspects such as what you’ve eaten or how you slept. EWearables like activity trackers, smartphones and smart watches generate data e.g. about your daily activity and sleep patterns and you can actively collect data by means of smartphone apps e.g. about your stress level or the food that you eat. You will explore a number of state of the art self-quantification technologies and the significance of these digital (health) developments for health and social care professionals. Please note that a visit to an international Digital Health conference about wearable technologies or quantified self is mandatory for which an extra budget of approximately €250 is required to cover the expenses.
