When We first started neptune in 1996 it Was in a farm

workshop in Wiltshire with a small team of very dedicated (and dusty) individuals.

this small studio was where we designed, built and tested everything.

although our West Country studio is a bit bigger now with over 100 dedicated

members of the team, we have exactly the same passion. from the design right

through to the delivery we make sure every detail and every material reflects

our commitment to quality, design and affordability.

We are not just a team of design geeks though. once you have chosen

something from the neptune collection we want to help you get it home, help

you care for it and be there if any problem occurs. our guarantees, aftercare

products and our service team will make sure you have a lifetime of enjoyment

from your neptune furniture.

right from the beginning our aim was to keep creating new and innovative

designs, so that you could enjoy choosing neptune furniture for many years

to come. nearly seventeen years on and we are still passionate about what we

do and how we do it…. with the added bonus that now we don’t need to wade

through the mud to get to the workshop.

Our Inspiration

in 1966 a finnish boat desiGner Created the

first fiberglass sailing yacht: the swan 36. it took a traditional

design and made it faster, lighter and safer. the steering was

more nimble, the interior more spacious, and the style more

elegant and comfortable. it went on to win the Whitbread

round the World race in the 1973 and changed the face of

yacht design forever.

Good design is often a simple idea reinvented. it uses tradition,

innovation and skill to create a new way of looking at things.

it is the simple idea behind everything we do at neptune.

even our name.

the finest quality timber from sustainable forests or tracking down

the strongest spring for our mattresses; we only use the best quality

materials. it is better for the planet, better for your wallet (because it

mdf or other noxious chemicals in your home. each piece is carefully

We use better grade materials that don’t fail in production and in turn make

produces less waste, makes us more efficient and makes our product stronger

and more beautiful.

finally, neptune furniture is built to last a lifetime. We do not compromise on

the product in any way: every visible or invisible design feature is something

we are proud of which is why we offer such a long guarantee. one year extends

to five once you register on-line. it’s free, it’s simple and we don’t think you’ll

even need to use it.

carpenters, finishers, packers and delivery men so they can

help with any stage of the process.

one of our most versatile designs. it will also never date. be playful,

adventurous and creative with it: put it through its paces in any urban or

country setting. it will hold its own and inject a dose of modern glamour and

artisanal individuality to each and every setting. design your kitchen with

crisp chrome, a bold palette and streamlined linear fittings and you will have

the traditional mouldinG detail and framed

drawers of our Chichester range are given a subtle, contemporary

finish. the door mouldings rise proud of the frame and then return

to the centre panel in a classical double pattern to produce shadow

and relief. the same stylish approach is applied to the clever pull outs,

such as the bins and dishwashers, to give your kitchen a seamless look.

all interiors are painted in a soft Calico to complement the warm

limestone exterior. it’s a soft two tone look that can be adjusted to

offer more or less contrast depending on your taste.

the full heiGht larder is the aladdin’s Cave

of storage, or the pandora’s box of larder options, depending

on your point of view. all our three ranges of kitchen have

this beautiful design in their collections, but the Chichester

range is the only design to offer the Counter top Cabinet. this

perfectly formed smaller sibling is ideal for tighter spaces or

adventurous cooks. place one on either side of your cooker for

easy access to your secret recipe of spices, herbs, stocks and oils.


ChiChester Contemporary

there is so much potential for reinvention with the

Chichester kitchen. Chrome bar handles with a salt paint

finish. a line of flush cabinets for a linear, streamlined

look. try bare walls with open shelving and Chichester base

Cabinets painted in a stronger palette. it’s all about creating

unexpected juxtapositions, but make sure you keep one

unifying element – either colour, tone or texture to bring

it all together.


a ClassiC potboard has an appeal that is hard to

match. the traditional style, open shelf with tongue and groove design

and warm oak work surface all feel reassuring, elegant and individual.

the distinctive carved leg design has a sturdy and classic look. the

drawers incorporate runners that, although invisible, extend fully out

of the cabinet for complete access to stored items. Capable of carrying

a massive 30kgs, all that is required is a soft tap for them to neatly close

on their own.

We stumbled aCross a beautiful series of old enGlish

antique chairs about three years ago and immediately fell in love with the

elegant ball back design, slim back slats and stylish frame. it was a love affair

that was to last. We now have a beautiful kitchen range based on this east

anglian tradition of furniture making that follows the classic shaker look of

pared back simplicity set to a perfect proportion.

for a look that evokes both a historical richness and unassuming elegance, the

suffolk is perfectly suited to modern living. the crisp lines, clean shapes and

muted palette has a formality that belies its light and youthful touch.

so we have designed a few additional extras to make your suffolk

kitchen a bit more special. our velvet cutlery drawers come as standard,

our slim oak towel rails are a convenient and tidy solution for your

dishcloths, our elegant chopping blocks are made from the finest maple

to protect your knives, and our stylish trays are perfect for offering

drinks or even as a serving platter for cheeses, meats or fruit.

limehouse is the essenCe of neptune’s modern spirit.

as a disused 15th century port on the banks of the river thames it

brought lime into the city and helped lay the foundations for one of

the most beautiful and important industrial and cultural capitals in

the world.

as neptune’s first contemporary design it blends the cutting edge and

the classic, the new and the re-discovered. it is experimental, creative,

sophisticated and authentic: a pared back look that combines sleek

engineering and style, with traditional craft and soul.

We use warm, authentic colours to echo the industrial setting, but

use a hand painted finish to contrast with the brushed stainless steel

and our chalked oak work surfaces. the play of modern and organic

materials gives it a real tactility to each stripped back detail, so every

feature appeals to all the senses.

fully framed doors feature an innovative fasCia

panel that allow us to create the crisp linear finish within a stable,

strong structure. in contrast we introduced a frame to the wine

racks, appliance housing and full height cabinets to break the

linearity and give these individual features more presence. Corner

and intermediate posts punctuate the horizontal f low and allow

f lexibility in the design so that cabinets can be grouped together

to create large style dressers or larders.

our limehouse cutlery drawer has a series of long troughs with sliding

stone dividers so you can create your own division of space. the lovely

mix of natural and industrial materials creates a playful, flexible and

extremely tactile design.

limehouse Cabinets are all freestanding so there is a real freedom and

versatility to how you can design. Why not introduce natural oak shelving

and led lighting for some clean lined modernism and all out glamour.

We Could Write a book about our neW larder.

it makes the tardis look like a broom cupboard. large larders

are often so deep you can find war rations hiding in the back.

so we re-engineered it.

our new larder has 4 tiers of storage. the dual door folding

system, gives you two tiers of storage for spice bottles and

small jars. inside the shelves come with bridges so all your

smaller cans or larger bags of flour can be easily seen. there is

no other larder offering as much display space.

limehouse embraCes beauty throuGh simpliCity

and function and is our most streamlined and simple design to

date, yet the most complex. so complex in fact that we have 15

new patents pending and over 100 design registrations to boot!

organic materials and traditional craftsmanship run

alongside new technology and innovation. We start with

fully framed cabinets, mortise and tenon joints and dovetail

joinery. the cabinets have soft close doors and invisible

magnets and the finish is handpainted or protected with our

new chalked oak isoguard treatment.

We then introduce some ground breaking timber engineering,

a patent pending fully retractable hinge, polished stainless steel

fittings, led lighting, aluminium shelf supports and brushed

stainless steel sink and tray inserts.

When We first thouGht of desiGninG an oak

kitchen all we could picture was orange cabinets and fussy fittings. but

then we thought again. surely we could get a new kind of finish to the

oak that would bring a fresh look to a fabulous classic?

Well we did it. the henley kitchen is the result, and it is a stunning

celebration of oak in its wonderful natural state. a faded, soft finish

that works beautifully with our warm palette of colours, hand painted

interiors and elegant fittings.

it shows that an oak kitchen can look stunning in any country setting or

urban environment. Whatever you like to call it: organic modernism,

a contemporary classic or clean rustic… to us it’s the perfect balance

of traditional carpentry and contemporary styling for a look that is

elegant, individual and extremely livable.

the ChallenGe in desiGninG our henley

kitchen was to create a finish that celebrated the natural

texture and finish of raw oak. We wanted it to look great

and to wear well, but we didn’t want to use any coloured

waxes, polishes or oils that would tarnish this naturally

beautiful material.

the answer came in an unlikely place: the deck of a boat.

using the advanced nanotechnology research undertaken

by the sailing industry we developed isoGuard™: a product

that protected the oak on a molecular level. no surface

residue and no discolouration. Just a beautiful, extremely

hard wearing finish.

the effect was immediate. our excited design team dreamt

up the most extraordinary curved cabinets, generous

larders, statement islands and elegant wine racks that are

beautiful in design and fabulous in detail.

the henley kitChen has been desiGned to

offer a wealth of useful storage, with the full height larder

Cabinet providing room for pretty much everything bar the

kitchen sink (we’ve already got that one covered).

Whether you choose curved or straight: the large bottom

drawer, four beautifully joined pull-out drawers, spice racks and

fully adjustable top section will keep you stocked up for months.


the siGnature henley Curves shoWCase our Carpentry

skills and the best of our beautiful oak. each cabinet involves steaming and

laminating thin plies of oak in a mould to ensure the curves last the lifetime

of the cabinet. but we don’t stop there. We curve the horizontal rails, vertical

styles, cornice, skirting and even the joints for the perfect camber.

Choose a henley skirting design to give your kitchen an integrated feel that

looks clean and crisp or more traditional. the wide variety of straight, curved

and full skirting with corner, mid or off-set feet gives you the freedom to design

a bespoke finish that is classic or contemporary.

natural timbers like oak are at home in any setting. this

contemporary look is achieved through a combination of cut

out handles, a full skirting design and a mix of open shelving,

full height cabinets and industrial accessories. the rough,

hewn timber panelling is in clever contrast to the smooth

the riCh tradition of furniture makinG in harroGate

inspired us to create a range of distinctive designs that celebrates our cultural

heritage. the unique pedestal table ends are a classic english feature that

look stunning when finished with seasoned oak tops and painted in a muted

honed slate. We think it’s just the right balance of traditional design and

contemporary detail.

as with many traditional furniture designs, the pedestal style is not only

very striking, but it is extremely comfortable to sit at. that’s why we

created two tables, one with built-in extension leaves that can seat from

six to ten in real luxury.

in the early 1900s by marshall burns lloyd, we twist kraft paper

What makes the perfect sofa?is it the softness of the Cushion, the pitCh of the seat, the style of the frame or the sentimental memories of a well-loved family heirloom.

the perfect sofa is a character in its own right. it becomes part of the fabric of your lives not just the architecture of your house. so we went back to the drawing board, or drawing room to be specific, to think about why we love our favourite armchair or well-worn sofa. they are all inviting, comforting and stylish. they make us smile, make us sigh and make us sit back and relax. they are sofas for really living in.

and that is how we set about designing this new collection: to make seriously lovely seats to live your life in.

it took us over a year to get the right balance of sophistication, comfort, strength and style. We discovered the perfect chair pitch after John and Giles got a saw and hacked off a couple of inches from the back legs of a tester chair. We couldn’t find the right quality frames so we set up our own manufacturing workshop to make and oversee everything ourselves, and we designed our own fabrics so we could create the signature neptune style and guarantee the durability and value.

the result is a range of sofas, armchairs and stools that will become treasured family heirlooms in no time.

The Frameneptune sofas are not made usinG Cardboard, staples or mdf. our sofas are made to last using solid timber frames that will resist the most extreme product testing from a 3 year old jumping toddler to a sociable gathering with friends perched on each arm.

so we thought you might like to see the frame before we cover it. We are really proud of every invisible and visible feature of our new collection, and the solid tulipwood frame is an elegant piece of traditional carpentry that is beautiful in its own right.

our fillinGs are made from an innovative mix of pocketed feather and fibre balls. it took us over a year of very arduous cushion testing to create the perfect level of comfort and support. feathers were too soft, collapsed too easily and needed re-filling too often. fibre or foam was too hard and felt more like a spring board than a sofa. even a conventional mix of the two didn’t feel luxurious enough. so we designed the feather mix pockets. the feathers feel wonderfully comfortable, the fibre balls throw the cushion back out and the pockets keep the filling evenly spread, so at no time will you feel the frame or see any lumps or bumps. Goldilocks would be delighted.

We Wanted a desiGn that took its inspiration from

the strong angular design of our sheldrake rectangular table. the

strong linear shape and beautiful oak carving was such an individual,

show stopping piece that it was time for it to take centre stage.

edinburgh is the result. the range of consoles and coffee tables have a

deep rustic finish that comes from a unique blend of wood stain that

is blended and brushed, and finished in our isoguard treatment. the

rustic yet sophisticated character of each piece comes from the carved

pillar column legs, slim proportions and slatted shelves.

mattress you start with around 3000 springs and a blend of cotton, hemp

and wool? Well we didn’t either, so we went to a workshop in yorkshire

where they have been making award-winning mattresses since 1840.

Theirs is a healthy obsession with creating the most cushioning support

that makes bedtime a perfect science. so we asked them what would

happen if we doubled the amount of springs, introduced some british

wool for warmth and breathability and soft egyptian cotton to finish.

When We first started neptune, most of our meetinGs Were

round John’s kitchen table. the print hanging behind his aga was a black and white

stylish femininity into our workshop. our carpenters are laying down their tools in

favour of fabric cutting so that we can offer our heavily textured linens, soft wools and

sumptuous velvets by the metre. the collection was inspired by our stylish range of

upholstery; the palette is natural and earthy, and the materials soft and sophisticated.

these practical fabrics are perfect for curtains, blinds and cushions and are

available by the metre. Just order some free samples so you can decide, and when

you’re ready, make sure you order all you need as there may be some variation
