CODE VR 70

The new Code VR 70 must be able to perform in both the muddy cyclocross conditions as well as the rough world of downhill mountain biking.

USE

PREDECESSOR

When muddy the two large vents on the toe allow water and debris to enter the shoe.

The hard TPU sole becomes slippery on smooth surfaces

often leading to ankle injuries.

During toe off the shoe loses v dramatically.

COMPLIANCEThe Code VR 70 needs to complement the new Giro footwear aesthetic while elevating the Giro New Road apparel program. It also needed to comply with the market’s colors and aesthetic while looking seamless with the entire Giro helmets and accessories categories.

IDEATIONAfter many rounds of sketching we finally arrived at a solution that was both elegant and expressive.

SOLE DEVELOPMENTI decided to start with a very rough clay version of the sole in order to get my proportions and measurements right. I then took it to CAD.

becomes more waterproof and comfortable while keeping it cool with breathable microfiber.

TOE TREADThe rubber sole is extended onto the toe giving it

“fangs” for traction when running up a hill.

preventing slipping when off the bike.
