Role profile

Providing P&C engineering support to site delivery teamsOverseeing design quality, drawings, approvals, and post-construction auditsCoordinating project requirements with civil and electrical designers and PMsCreating detailed protection and control designs up to and including 400kVProducing single-line diagrams, detailed relay specifications, and CORTEC codesDesigning relay panels – GA’s / schematic diagramsSpecifying plant and switchgearSupplying SCADA I/O schedulesProviding multicore schedules, multicore block diagrams etc.Interfacing old equipment with new equipmentEnsuring the law is always complied with (including Health & Safety at Work Act,Electricity at Work, ESQCR and CDM Regulations)Mechanical & electrical interlocking.

Heading up the P&C design team, the successful applicant will be responsible forensuring projects are delivered in a timely manner and with all technical queriesresolved. They will undertake EPC and balance of plant designs for solar, batterystorage, gas peaking and private EHV/Grid infrastructure schemes, ensuring thatdesigns are issued in a timely manner and managed within allocated budgets. The day-to-day role will involve:

The ideal candidate will have an excellent working knowledge of the plant andprotection systems utilised on electrical infrastructure projects (covering substationsup to 400kV, balance of plant and EPC wrap schemes).

They should also possess a detailed understanding of the types of protection andcontrol systems in operation (as well as their application), alongside a detailed workingknowledge of the standards and specifications used within the industry.

Demonstrable industry experience up to 400kV Previous experience working in a similar P&C role Experience of working on balance of plant, EPC battery storage, solar and gaspeaking plant schemes P&C design experience with regards to DNO networks (operating up to 132kVand National Grid up to 400kV)Degree / HNC / HND or equivalent in a relevant discipline is desirableIOSH Managing Safety in Construction is desirable

Working knowledge of the CDM Regulations 2015 in relation to the role of thedesignerDetailed knowledge of UK protection and control standards at DNO and NG levelPrior experience holding NG design authorisations would be beneficialAble to quickly acquire knowledge for advancements in energy service provisionsWorking knowledge of the appropriate UK legislation and standardsIdeally a corporate member of the IET (and working towards IEng/CEng status)Capable of taking an outline project scope document and understanding how ittranslates into the detailed design deliverable requirementsA flexible approach to overcoming difficulties Able to provide mentoring to other engineers and design disciplinesConfident in analysing, taking ownership and solving problemsExcellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office applicationsFully proficient in the use of AutoCAD Able to build and maintain strong external relationshipsExcellent interpersonal and time management skills
