CMX CINEMAS NAMES JOSE LEONARDO MARTI NEW CEO
CMX Cinemas, the eighth largest movie theater chain in the
U.S., has named Jose Leonardo Marti its new Chief
Executive Officer.
A 30-year career finance and cinema veteran, Martí led the
recent acquisition of Cobb Theaters and CinéBistro for CMX
Cinemas, which now has the company operating 36
locations in the U.S., making it one of the largest movie
theater chains in the country. As CEO for CMX, he is
responsible for spearheading the company’s aggressive
growth expansion plans.
“We are happy to welcome our great friend and colleague
Jose Leonardo Marti to the CMX Cinemas team as our new
CEO," said Rogelio Velez, CEO of Grupo Cinemex S.A de
C.V. the owning and managing theater company
headquartered in Mexico. “He is a proven leader in finance
and operations and thanks to his expertise and diligence he has transformed the theater industry in the region.
Undoubtedly, Marti’s drive and vast experience will help us continue to expand our presence as the preferred
destination for all movie-goers.”
For nine years prior to his role as the CEO for CMX Cinemas, Martí was the CFO and CEO for Grupo
Cinemex, S.A. of C.V. and CFO for Latin America Movie Theatres where he led the acquisition of nearly 500
screens, leading the company to be the second largest movie company in Mexico.
This year alone, CMX’s robust expansion plans included new locations in Tallahassee and Chicago and the
upcoming opening of CMX CinéBistro in New York, in October. This venue, located in the Upper East Side, is
set to be the most elegant and exclusive movie theater in town.

MEXICO IS THE SIXTH MOST VISITED TOURIST DESTINATION
At the recent 43rd edition of the
Tianguis Turístico in Mazatlan,
Mexico, President Enrique Peña
Nieto announced that the country
ranked sixth among the most
visited tourist destinations in 2017.
The ranking is a substantial
improvement from the country’s
15th ranking in 2013.
Mexico attributes the increased ranking to its investments in new and existing destinations, diversifying its
tourism products, the development of close partnerships with airlines, hotels and the tourism industry as well
as Mexico’s world-famous friendly culture, warm hospitality and high quality of service.
Mexico’s Minister of Tourism, Enrique de la Madrid, stated that it is an achievement to be proud of. “We salute
the more than 10 million Mexicans who work to ensure our international visitors have an incredible experience
and the entire Mexican and global travel industry whose investments, passion and dedication have made this
remarkable growth possible.”
SÃO PAULO DESIGN WEEKEND PROMOTES DESIGN CULTURE WITH WALL OF
PEACE AS A TOP ATTRACTION
Sao Paulo recently hosted the eighth edition of DW! São Paulo Design Weekend, an urban festival that aims
to promote design culture and its connections with architecture, art, decor, urbanism, social inclusion, business
and technological innovation.
From August 29 through September 2, the cosmopolitan city played host to several independent events,
including lectures at educational institutions, guided tours in galleries and workshops, exhibitions, installations,
artistic and urban interventions, thematic circuits, competitions, parties and product launches in shops and
showrooms.
Among some of the top attractions included the inauguration of the Wall of Peace signed by artist Eduardo
Kobra, which was specially commissioned for the WTC Complex in São Paulo. The mural depicts the
personalities of religious leader Dalai Lama, Catholic nun Madre Teresa of Calcutta, South African leader
Nelson Mandela, Pakistani Malala Yousafzai, Indian politician Mahatma Gandhi, and U.S. activist Martin
Luther King Jr.
THE WEEK OF COSTA RICA IN MADRID

place in the Pangea Travel Store, one of the largest

SE ASIA’S ONLY F1 NIGHT GRAND PRIX RETURNS TO SINGAPORE
Singapore was running on high-octane fuel throughout the weekend of September 14th through the 16th as
the 2018 Singapore Airlines Singapore Grand Prix returned to the Little Red Dot.
The annual race sees F1 champions such as David Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel dueled it out across the

The Durst Organization helmed by real

Times Square in midtown Manhattan to
support The Everglades Foundation, a
nonprofit 501(c)3 working to protect and
restore America's Everglades through
science, education and advocacy. The
evening welcomed business leaders,
philanthropists and political figures to a
visual journey showcasing the natural beauty of the wetlands‘ wild and endangered habitat, as captured by
renowned nature photographer Mac Stone.
The event drew more than 150 distinguished
guests to The Durst Organization building at
4 Times Square, formerly known as the
Conde Nast Building. A reception with light
fare by NOMA co-founder Claus Meyer
followed Stone’s presentation.

offering therapeutic horsemanship programs to
children and adults with disabilities.
