EDuCAtiOnAL OBJECtivES:At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to: · Describe the pathophysiology and characteristics of Breakthrough pain in Cancer Patients, its prevalence, and the negative impact on patients· Discuss the importance of treating Breakthrough pain in Cancer Patients as a separate entity from baseline pain and treatment goals· Evaluate current treatments and investigational agents· Assess the risks/benefits of therapy· Identify how to tailor treatment to individual needs of patients and minimize risks and maximize clinical outcomes

Accreditation Statement:Physician Credit: this activity has been reviewed and is acceptable for up to 2 prescribed credits by the American Academy of Family Physicians.

AAFP Prescribed credit is accepted by the American Medical Association as equivalent to AMA PrA Category 1 Credit toward the AMA Physician’s recognition award. When applying for the AMA PrA, Prescribed credit earned must be reported as Prescribed credit, not as Category 1.
