Change Management
To ensure all changes are assessed, approved, implemented and reviewed in a
Standardization of change procedure
controlled manner.
Increase efficiency in change implementation
Minimize impact
- Impact occurring as a result of release (Change Implementation)
- Current performance (Incident occasioning change)

Change Management
Scope
- Hardware- Communications equipment and software
-
- All documentation and procedures associated with the running, support and
maintenance of live systems.
- System Documents - Procedural Documents
- Recovery Plan - Role Alignment
- Code Export andDocumentation
- Process Documentation

Asset Management
A subset of ITILs configuration management that enhances the information collected
Gaining full control of organizations inventory
regarding system components
Managing ownership through the lifecycle of assets
Enables deeper analysis of component impact
Facilitate resource allocation and utilization
Manage costs associated with maintenance, licensing, andupgrades

Management in Parallel
Dependencies from Change Management
- Cost Analysis of Change Orders (Impact)- Cost associated with contract renewal
-
- Measuring the value of the service associated with the change
- Measuring the costs of Assets supporting the service
Dependencies from Asset Management
- Maintaining Asset Lifecycle status

The Gap
If Change management aligns the decisions and their efficientimplementation, then it can be argued that Asset management isthe element that is leveraged to determine why a the decision isviable.
- While cost of an individual item is valuable information, how can an asset systemalone account for components that arent inherently related to a product?
- Can impact truly be minimized simply by accounting for the cost associated with
- Will understanding the status of all assets in an organization truly allow for effectiveutilization of those assets going forward?

CMDB
As a normalized point of reference:
- Consumes discovered system details- Ensures data integrity by:
-
- Combining data into a single, accurate, entry
- Provides an access method for federated sources-

Individual Structures
Change Management:
- Capable of aligning controlled processes that add, remove, or manipulateservices and there components with in an organization
- Maintains accurate data regarding the configurations supporting services
within an organization
Asset Management:
- Managing components and there underlying contracts through their lifecycleand ensuring effective utilization.

Value of Configuration Awareness
Service Continuity
- Ensuring service recovery
- Risk Reduction
erv ce va a ty
- Maintenance of components
- Serviceability from external suppliers
- Knowing not only direct relationship, but underlying dependencies that supportservices as well
Before an organization can properly enable continuity and availability for itsservices, the CMDB will need to be aligned with those services accordingly

How Impact Simulation Enhances Change
Applies relationships mapped in the CMDB to the Change Request
Allows for the Impact and Urgency of a ticket to be updated toreflect the combined level from the simulation
Impact simulations can be stored in Work Info for tickets

Software License Management
As a consumer of discovery sources the CMDB is aware ofsoftware present with in the organization.
Combined with the CMDB Product Catalog it is possible to, .
Asset management allows for license compliance to be automated
- Applying software certificates that are applied to configuration items
- Account for each consumed certificate
- Normalizing data from all discovery sources to ensure accurate licenseconsumption.
