CMC Notices Sunday School Teachers for 2017-2018 Youth Commission is already making plans for Sunday school for 2017-2018.

Please consider how you can participate in nurturing the faith of CMC's children. We need teachers, assistants, music leaders and substitute teachers. You are invited to sign up to teach or help out for one quarter, two quarters or for a whole year. Look for the Sunday school signup table in the Fellowship Hall each Sunday in July after the worship service. If you have questions or would like more information, please contact Joyce Peachey Lind at [email protected] or 540-476-1407. Thank you for your participation in helping guide our children on their faith journeys! Vacation Bible School will be held August 4-5, 2017 at CMC for children ages 4 through 5th grade (register your child in the

grade they are entering in the fall). This year’s theme is “Digging for Treasure: Parables Revealed.” Beginning on Friday evening and going through Saturday afternoon, children will interact with Bible stories through singing, worship and visits to a variety of interactive stations. On Friday,

registration begins at 6 pm (if not pre-registered) and Bible school begins at 6:30 pm. Pickup is at 7:45 pm. On Saturday,

Bible school begins at 9:00 am and pickup will be at 3:00 pm. Drop-off and pickup will be in the sanctuary both days. Please contact Joyce Peachey Lind ([email protected]) if you have questions or if you would like to help. You can pre-register online, or by visiting our table in the fellowship hall on Sunday morning.

Me High Music Festival on August 25 and 26! Volunteers get free festival passes, free T-shirt, food, and the satisfaction of helping to pull off this wonderful community event. Email [email protected] with questions, and sign up at: singmehigh.com/volunteer.

The Singers Glen Music and Heritage Festival will feature three performances of Alice Parker's opera Singers Glen on September 23 and 24. The opera features lots of great choral hymn singing, and you're invited to join the choir—all ages welcome, no audition needed. Rehearsals will be held at Donovan United Methodist Church in Singers Glen on Sunday afternoons from 3-5 beginning August 13. Additional rehearsals for the entire cast will be scheduled the week prior to the performance, likely including Thursday and Friday. Because of the size of the stage, the size of the choir will be limited to about 30, so please sign up in advance. The festival and opera are only done every five years, so don't miss your chance. We also need soloists for various roles large and smaller. Auditions will be held at Donovan on August 5 and 6. For more information or to sign up for the choir or a solo audition, contact Jeremy Nafziger at [email protected] or (540) 209-3767.

CMC Small Groups

Would you like to be part of a small group? Anabaptists believe that the Christian life should be lived alongside others, not in isolation. CMC small groups provide settings for deeper relationships, and a community to share fellowship, study, personal encouragement, counsel, practical support, outreach, and fun. Small groups are made up of 6-12 adults, plus children, who meet weekly or bi-weekly. CMC encourages all regular attenders to participate in small-group life. If you are interested in joining a small group, please contact Pastor Dayna or Heather Harris at: [email protected] or cell (937)597-8289

On Friday, August 4, Community Mennonite Church will host artist Madeline Miller for Harrisonburg's First

Friday events. Join us on Friday, August 4, from 5-8pm at 70 S High St. for the art opening, with light refreshments and live music. PEACE IN THE VALLEY - A cross-

section of activities on the June-July CMC worship theme, "Living Peacefully," is the subject of a new photo collage now up and running on the bulletin board on the west wall of the fellowship hall. Then, turn back the clock to July 27, 2013 and see the congregation's young people having a blast in "God's Big Backyard," a one-day summer Bible school program. Jim Bishop

If anyone is interested in hosting a 16 year old exchange student from Bogota, Colombia from mid-August 2017 through June 2018, please contact David Shenk at

[email protected]. The student's name is Juan Esteban Herrera and he's from a Mennonite family in Colombia. Juan is thoughtful, diligent, on the quiet side and enjoys playing violin. He has plans to study at EMS during the 2017-2018 school year, but is still in search of a host family that can host him starting in August 2017. Thank you. David Shenk

Join us for our Monthly Potluck on Sunday, August 6th at Morrison Park.

Please bring food to share and tableware for your family as well at blankets and chairs to sit on. We'll provide water to drink. Our Potluck will begin about a half hour after worship is over. See you at the park. Hopefully, this month’s Potluck will be a little less exciting, weather-wise! It’s time to start thinking about our Annual CMC Retreat. Mark your calendar.

We will be holding our Retreat from September 22nd through the 24th. More information and details to come.

Relief Sale News: You can help the Relief

Sale efforts now! We need donations of craft supplies, small treasures, books and kids toys for the Kiddie Corner. This is a sort of yard sale for kids. Donations can be dropped off at the Conference office to a big bin inside the front door. Thanks! Contact Greta Kreider for more info.

Did you know that we have four ways to give to the church? By cash or check: Either place your

contribution in the offering basket or mail checks to the church. Use the memo line to indicate a particular fund ("Everyone Welcome," "General Fund," etc.).

By text message: Text the amount you

wish to donate (e.g. "$25") to 540-779-1276. The first time, you'll receive a link to register your information. Undesignated funds will go to CMC's general fund. To contribute to the Everyone Welcome, add "Welcome" after the amount (e.g. "$100 Welcome"). To donate to the Fifth Sunday offering, add "Fifth".

On our website: Click the teal "Give"

button on the top right corner of our website at cmcva.org

On your smartphone: Search for

"GivePlus Church" in the Android or iPhone app store, once you've installed it, just search for "Community Mennonite Church."
