Project Promise will hold its annual chicken BBQ fundraiser 4:00 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 13, at Siloam Fellowship (61616 County Road 35, Goshen). Featuring High’s Signature BBQ chicken with baked potatoes and homemade pie. Suggested donation: $10 for dine-in or carry-out. Project Promise provides spiritual and social opportunities for persons with disabilities. July 21-16 - Peace Camp Mennonite Central Committee Great Lakes is offering a week-long Peace Camp for young adults ages 18-22 who are interested in learning about a Biblical approach to peace and justice. During Peace Camp on July 21-26 at Amigo Centre, young adults will explore the theme of “Responding to Violence” as they are invited by the prophet Micah (Chapter 4) to go up to the mountaintop. The week includes a trip to Chicago with MCC partners working with gun violence prevention. Other hands-on learning will focus on conflict transformation, nonviolence training and community building as peacemaking. The base participant fee is $300. Scholarships are also available on a case-by-case basis. August 4-9 - MCC Great Lakes for a week-long Pipeline to Prison Based in Goshen, Ind., the tour will focus on the challenges and complexities of the U.S. criminal justice system and include day trips to South Bend, Elkhart, and Bunker Hill, Ind. Participants will journey from the local community level through the criminal justice system, learning about law enforcement, sentencing, incarceration and re-entry. All who are interested in learning about disparities in the justice system, including those working in or seeking to develop a prison/re-entry ministry, are welcome.
