Odyssey of the Mind

LPA is building an Odyssey of the Mind

(OM) Team! OM is a creative problem-

solving program involving students

from kindergarten through college.

Team members work together at length

to solve a predefined problem; and

present their solution to the problem at

a competition. They must also generate

solutions to a problem they have not

seen before. LPA will have a middle

school team that will meet on Tuesdays

from 3-4. All applications will be due on Wednesday, September 27th.

Box Tops

Please remember to save your box

tops and send them into school with the

name of your teacher on the bag.

Every quarter the teacher with the most

box tops from their class will win a

prize. This is an easy way to earn

money for our school!

Spirit Wear Fridays

We encourage you to wear LPA

apparel on Fridays to support the

school. Your last chance to buy LPA

spirit wear is before curriculum chat on

Tuesday, August 29th and Thursday,

August 31st. Students can also wear

their AVID shirts, which they will

receive in the coming weeks.

HAC

Do you have a 3rd – 8th grader? All

grades will be posted on our school

HAC. Parents are encouraged to

check their child’s progress frequently.

Media Matters

For the seventh year in a row, LPA will continue our military

supply collection and letter writing campaign for soldiers

deployed overseas. Our project was so successful in past

years that we have decided to keep our momentum moving

into the 2017-2018 school year. Your child's grade level will

be participating only in the given months. The Jacksonville

USO has graciously partnered with us to ship all of our

supplies and letters overseas to our deserving soldiers.

In the month of September and October, third, fourth and

fifth grade students will be collecting supplies and writing

letters. Letters outlining this project went home on

September 26th, including a list of approved USO supplies.

Please use the care package supply list and send in your

donated supplies by Wednesday, October 11th. Your child

will be writing their letters in class during a writing lesson.

Thank you for supporting our school, our community and our

troops!

LPA Supports Our Troops

The media center is a very busy place at LPA!

Thank you PTO, parents, teachers and students for all of

your support to our recent Scholastic Book Fair. We

reached out highest amount in sales in the history of LPA!

That means more books on the shelves for our students.

Thank you so very much for all of your support.

I will continue notifying our students and parents every

other week regarding overdue books. Parents will receive

overdue notices via email.

SSYRA books are a big “hit” again this year. Students can

receive brag tags once they read/test on a SSYRA 2017-

2018 book. We have many SSYRA books available in the

media center and some available as eBooks on the media

center website under the DESTINY icon.

Thank you for your support to the media center. It is an

honor to be the media specialist at LPA – a FANTASTIC

school!

LPA’s Fun Run festivities kicked off on Monday, September 25th with a

pep rally. During the pep rally, students met the LPA Fun Run team and

were introduced to this year’s theme – “Castle Quest.”

The LPA Fun Run is a PTO‐sponsored educational program and

fundraiser. Boosterthon teaches students in Kindergarten through Fifth

Grade the values of fitness, leadership, and bravery. Students have been

learning about the six virtues of a true hero: Focus, Self-Awareness,

Respect, Trustworthiness, Creativity, and Life-Learner.

All parents are invited to attend the Fun Run that will be held on Friday,

October 6th at the following times:

8:45a.m. to 9:45a.m. Kindergarten and First Grade

10:00a.m. to 11:00a.m. Fourth and Fifth Grade

12:30p.m. to 1:30p.m. Second and Third Grade

Parents, grandparents or friends who would like to attend the fun run must

be approved volunteers. Please be sure to log on to funrun.com to enter

your pledges.

If we reach our goal of raising $40,000, students will get to participate in

an LPA Pajama Day. Additionally, incentives are being offered for the

class in each grade that raises the most money.

Meet the Artist October-November sessions will focus on mixed media.

What is Mixed Media? It is the use of two or more art materials in an artwork. Collage is a type of mixed media and

the word comes from the French word “coller”, which means “to glue ". A collage is an artwork made by gluing things

together, such as: magazine photos, tissue paper or pieces of string. Most K-5 students will be making collages this

session.

Meet the Artist Volunteers - please check your emails for instructions on scheduling sessions with your teachers

and notifying MTA coordinators of your confirmed date/time with at least 48 hours notice.

Supply donations needed- magazines with photos that are appropriate for 5th grade students to cut out for their

Salvador Dali collage projects. If you have magazines to donate, please email Stephanie Colca at

[email protected].
