Rebecca & Megan Lovell of Larkin Poe are singer/songwriter, multi- instrumentalist sisters creating their own brand of Roots Rock 'n' Roll: gritty, soulful, and flavoured by their southern heritage. Originally from Atlanta and currently living in Nashville, they are descendants of tortured artist and creative genius Edgar Allan Poe. All proceeds support people with intellectual disabilities in our community Buy Tickets Now Community Living Victoria Autism Services 2018-2019 Community Based Social Groups for Ages 6-18 *Physical Activity *Friendships *Communication and Social Skills *Being adventurous and trying new things! After school on Mondays, Wednesdays or Fridays September 10/18 - June 14/19 In all groups, participants will have the support of a team of experienced Behavior Interventionists, in a maximum ratio of three participants to one Behavior Interventionist at all times. Activities will provide opportunities for the individuals to work on their social skills, both in-house and in the community. Every attempt will be made to ensure that everyone benefits from a fun and educational experience with CLV. Autism Services can also assist with all administration related to Ministry of Children and Family Development's Autism Funding. The fee for each group varies, but is equivalent to $30 per hour. Early Bird Registration ends October 12, 2018 CLICK HERE for more information Ministry of Social Development and Poverty Reduction Service Satisfaction Survey In follow up to, and alignment with the 2014 and 2018 Service Satisfaction baseline survey and to continue to improve our service quality, we will be asking clients to complete a brief satisfaction survey (12 questions). September 24 to November 2, 2018 The survey offers clients an opportunity to provide feedback regarding service delivery. The survey is open to all individuals who receive income or disability assistance. Participation is optional, anonymous and is not linked to eligibility. Clients can participate by going online to the BCEA Satisfaction Survey or calling toll-free: 1-877-223-8078 Monday to Friday (8:30am - 4:30pm, except statutory holidays). If needed, a paper copy is available upon request through the 1-877 toll-free line or at a ministry office. Wills and Trusts Information sessions with Network Manager, Heather Bergink and Lawyer Dustin Marnell from Horne Coupar occur frequently at Lifetime Networks. Resources Find A Program The Find A Program tool is a OneAbility initiative with the aim to have all the information on inclusive programming offered in Greater Victoria in one place The database is searchable by impairment type, age, and program and links you to the organization. Click HERE to Find A Program Online Mental Health and Autism Project: Looking Beyond Autism The Online Mental Health and Autism Project (OMHAP) is a partnership between ACT- Autism Community Training and UBC CPD which aims to create an enhanced awareness of the growing trend of children with ASD having co-morbid mental health challenges. Further, this education aims to support health professionals to better recognize these mental health challenges and provide the appropriate care. A panel of autism specialists from ACT's Online Mental Health and Autism Project provide an orientation for community professionals on the high prevalence of autism across the age span, and how autistic characteristics frequently masks mental health concerns. For more information click HERE Plan Institute is currently developing a new Wills, Trusts & Estate Planning webinar with the generous support of Law Foundation of BC. During the pilot phase of this project, we will be offering 4 sessions in fall 2018 These pilot webinars will be offered free of charge as a limited time offer for BC residents living in rural communities outside of the Lower Mainland. In return, all participants are requested to provide feedback on their webinar experience. Following launch of this program, all future webinars will have a small fee for participation. For more information click HERE CanAssist presents a unique program for youth with disabilities who wish to find part-time work while they are still in high school. The program helps participants find meaningful, paid work and prepares them for the transition to adulthood. For more information click HERE News BCEdAccess is tracking the exclusion of students with special needs in BC schools This incident report form is for parents and guardians and is meant to be filled out each time a child has been excluded from school. BCEdAccess , a parent education advocacy group, is tracking incidents of exclusion at BC schools. The group has created an incident report form for parents and guardians of students with special needs. The form is for the 2018/2019 school year. Inclusion BC is working with BCEdAccess to ensure students with special needs across BC are guaranteed their right to an education. Please share this form with your networks. 2018 General Local Elections in BC October 20 is Municipal Election Day in BC, when voters will choose school trustees, Mayors and Councillors for their local communities. These elected leaders make important decisions that affect inclusion in our schools and local communities. Elections are also a good time to talk to others about disability rights and inclusion, to help people understand why these things are important and to grow support for our movement. We can all help to advance inclusion through election activities: Learn about inclusion barriers and solutions Get Involved in election activities, and Vote for candidates who support inclusion!
