Our choir sang beautifully, and Charli, Tina, Clancy and Riley spoke well. Cohen recited ‘In Flanders Fields’ and his own original poem which is published at the end of the newsletter. Thank you to everyone who attended - it is times like these that I reflect on how lucky I am to be part of such a wonderful community. We will utilise the donation to continue to purchase resources to deepen our students understanding of Australian history and the ANZACS. CANBERRA/ SYDNEY EXCURSION We are pleased to announce we have enough students attending our major excursion this year. At this stage we have 33 students from Clunes and Goolmangar attending who will be accompanied by 3 staff members and 1 parent. As small regular instalments usually assist paying costs the next payment of $100 is due on May 23 rd . Please contact the school if you require financial assistance and we will send confidential information forms home with your child. Our aim is to ensure all our children are able to participate in a wealth of opportunities and experiences as possible. FIRST NORTH CROSS COUNTRY NEXT TUESDAY Next week our students will compete against the First North Community of Schools. Rosebank School, who host this event at our school, will provide a canteen. The menu will be attached to this newsletter. We hope to see lots of family and friends coming along to cheer our runners on. GRIP LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE Eleven of our senior student leaders will attend the GRIP Leadership Conference in Lismore next week with me. This presents strong messages on leadership, positive relationships

and self-confidence. Participating students will receive a note today with final details. LIFE LONG LEARNERS Staff were thrilled to attend an inspiring talk by Kurt Fearnley on Monday. What a resilient, intelligent and amazing man and athlete! His main message was “High Expectations” and “Challenging yourself as you can achieve whatever you put your mind to.” Staff participated in writing workshops while SLSOs attended a course with district guidance counsellor, Emma Rolfe. SASS staff attended an administrative course at Ballina after having a laugh with Mandy Nolan. Many of our staff will participate in a Providing First Aid Course over the next three weeks. We will be joined by a staff from other schools. Our school will also host Drama Workshops for district teachers and students at the end of May. Staff also continue their termly professional learning which is related to our school plan focus areas to improve student outcomes. Learning and inspiration never stops!!! NAPLAN Year 3 and Year 5 students will participate in NAPLAN on Tuesday 15th May (Language and Writing), Wednesday 16th May (Reading) and Thursday 17th May (Numeracy). Please ensure that if your child is participating in these assessments, they are at school on the day of the assessment to give them the best opportunity to complete the tests. Information will be sent home shortly. Should you have any concerns or questions please contact myself or Jack Priestley.

PREMIER SPORTING CHALLENGE Students and staff have begun their sporting challenge this week and all children should have their cards sent home tonight. Thank you to Mr Priestley for his enormous preparation in setting this up for our school.

ATTENTION ALL HIP HOPPERS Miss Jess will be starting a Hip-Hop dance for students in Yr 4, 5 & 6 this term. We need a minimum of 25 students to run this program which always receives accolades from audience and organisers of the Performing arts Festival while providing fun, creativity and fitness for our students. A note will come home today. CHANGE OF CLEANING STAFF John Mortimer is our current cleaner replacing Steve Burley while he is receiving some ongoing treatment. Steve has been an exceptional cleaner and a valued member of our school community. We thank him for his efforts and wish him good health and a total recovery soon. SCHOOL HOCKEY CHAMP GOES SOUTH Good luck to James Coleman who is trying out for a position on the North Coast PSSA Hockey team today. Michelle Slee Principal

North Coast Creative Arts Camp 2018 Student applications for the 2018 North Coast Creative Arts Camp are now available at your school office. The week-long camp will be held in August at Lake Ainsworth Sport and Recreation Centre. Students in years 4, 5 & 6 who show an above average ability in music, dance, visual arts, drama or movie-making are welcome to apply. Applications must be returned to the school office by 9am on Friday June 8. No money needs to be sent in at this stage. Enquiries email Fiona Clarke [email protected] CLUNES P.S. BAND Lessons will continue as normal for Term 2. Students will be informed if there any changes in lesson times. Not too sure if your child’s lesson is on? There can be many disruptions during a term due to various extra school activities. Students need to bring their instrument to school on their lesson day regardless of what else may be happening. Lismore Performing Arts Festival This term our more experienced band members will be taking part in the Lismore Combined Band rehearsals. These rehearsals give young musicians from around the Lismore District an opportunity to play in a large ensemble with the emphasis on performing at the Lismore Performing Arts Festival in Term 3 of this year. New Students Welcome to our new students who are officially starting lessons this term. It is wonderful to see so many students continuing after last terms try out program. Invoices for lessons will be emailed shortly. If you have not received an invoice by May 11 please email Fiona on [email protected] Keyboard with Miss Mish Welcome back parents and students! I'll be teaching piano and singing this term for 9 weeks from week 2 (Wednesday 9th May) to week 10 (Wednesday 4th July). If your child is continuing or interested please contact the front office or email me, as there are only 11 x 30-minute times for keen musicians. If your child was doing lessons last term you have priority over new students, please just confirm with me or the office by Wednesday week 2.

On Friday 11th of May the P&C will be holding the Mother's Day Stall in the morning with some very reasonably priced gifts to be purchased for the mums and carers. We have the Bunning's Barbecue coming up on Saturday the 12th of May. Please add your name to the list if you can support in any way either on the day or with the cost of the drinks, sausages etc. Any donation is greatly appreciated and goes towards making this a great fundraising event for the school.

We thought we’d share some of our vacation care photos, as you can see the children have been deconstructing mobile phones, designing their own emoji’s, building and racing billy carts from recycled materials and cooking and decorating

‘wheel’

biscuits, learning circus skills and making stepping stones using broken china, as well having free time to cycle, climb on the playground and construct Lego, railways and car tracks. We would like to thank all the families that donated items and toys for our program and the great numbers we had over the holidays. As we review our vacation care and afterschool programs this week, if you have any comments or ideas you would like us to program for your child, please speak to any of the educators.

Many thanks Hannah and the COOSH team
