Guests: There were no guests. Happy Dollars: Kathy Carroll: in honor of Charlie Jones’ recent birthday. Peter Monigle: for his son’s recent band trip to Nashville where his music was recorded. Mary Gutgsell : pleased to announce her daughter’s engagement. Jayne Rayno: noting the Rotary’s “Read with Me” program. Emily Jones: for her recent purchase of a unit at Hilltop Place. Announcements: The Scholarship Committee has met and, if any members are interested in joining this committee, they are welcome. Mike Moss distributed the books that are to be read for the 2nd grades. One of the books contains a bookplate in remembrance of Ruth Franks. Mike reminded the members there will be a talk on how to read to children at COA on Tuesday, March 8th at 8:00 am. Lee Morrill reported that the Newsletter will now be posted online only, but can be read or downloaded to print. New member Diane Bourke, who is a media and computer tech teacher at NL Elementary School, has volunteered to join the website committee with Lee and Charlie Foss as our Club Webmaster. She will update and help maintain ClubRunner. There will be more information on this shortly. Peter Monigle, Store Manager of Hannaford Supermarkets introduced George Parmenter, who is in charge of the sustainability program for the supermarket chain. George has been with the company for ten years, working from Scarborough, Maine. George noted that Hannaford Supermarkets are managing their energy foot print; reducing waste at the stores; are vigilant concerning food safety and improving the labeling on their products. George also addressed the food that is approaching expiration date. Hannaford belongs to the Food Waste Alliance, and they have donated 15 million pounds of food. There are five different food banks that receive food from the New London store. Mike Moss thanked George for speaking to New London Rotary. Raffle: Beth Swanson’s raffle number was chosen, but she did not draw the queen of hearts. PROGRAM February 26 This book is presented by the New London Rotary Club In Memory of for her support of Children’s Literacy Programs and the joy of reading over a lifetime. 2016 Ruth Franks
