4-H Award of Excellence Applications for junior members are available at the 4-H Office and will be due on January 10, 2013. The requirements are as follows:

Must be under 14 years of age by January 1

st of the club year

Must have at least two (2) years of 4-H club work, including award year.

Must score at least 100 points on

the application.

This year, in an effort to recognize 4-H members who are graduating, Louisiana 4-H will offer a special “4-H HONOR CORD.”

For 4-H youth to receive the 4-H Honor Cord, they must meet the following requirements:

Must be an enrolled 4-H member in good standing.

Must be a graduating senior.

Must have been enrolled in 4-H for 3 years of their high school career.

Must have participated in at least one state sponsored 4-H program in the last 3 years.

Must fill out the application form and turn in to the parish 4-H office by the deadline date.

4-H Clubs.....we need your help! Our service project for December is the Adopt-A-Cottage at the NW Louisiana Development Center. We will collect Christmas present donations from the school clubs on December 14

th and

wrap them up for residents of the Center, all in the spirit of giving. Contact Ms. Jeannie if your club is interested in adopting a cottage.

STATE HONEY BEE ESSAY CONTEST

Topic: “Reducing the Usage of Bee-Killing Pesticides in My Community”

4-H KEY CLUB AWARD

This award gives recognition to 4-H club members who have shown outstanding leadership ability in their club and in their parish. The object of the program is to encourage project growth. The basic requirements are as follows:

Must be 16 years of age by January 1

When: December 8, 2012 ~ Where: WT Lewis Elem., 4701 Modica Lott Rd. ~Time: Registration, 9:30–10:00 am Please read all the rules!

1. Contestants may enter only one (1) dish in each division (2 dishes total). 2. The dish must be prepared the night before & chilled in refrigerator. 3. All dishes must be transported to the contest on ice, in an ice chest. 4. The contestant must be a Bossier Parish 4-H club member. 5. All contests are open to all age groups and all ages will compete together. Our Cloverbuds will have their own

division (see below).

Contestants should bring a dish prepared by them to the contest. A copy of the recipe must accompany the dish. The required recipe form may be picked up from your club leader. The recipe must make only one standard dish. The ENTIRE dish must be exhibited at the contest, i.e. if the cookie recipe yields 3 dozen, then 3 dozen cookies must be displayed for the contest. Anything used to enhance the appearance of the dish must be in or on the serving container.

**DISHES NOT CHILLED & TRANSPORTED ON ICE IN AN ICE CHEST WILL BE DISQUALIFIED. ~Microwave Ovens will be available for judges to reheat foods~

Division Rules:

You may enter only 1 dish in each division -- Each 1st place dish will compete at the Area Cookery Contest in Bossier City, LA.

PECANS: (minimum of ½ cup pecans must be used; may be whole, chopped, halves or pieces) -Cookies -Candy -Other (may include a main dish, salad, appetizer, etc. but NOT a dessert item) -CLOVERBUDS ONLY (ages 5-8) – Pecan Cookies, please follow the rules above.

POULTRY: Chicken: (contains minimum of 2 pounds bone-in chicken or 1 pound deboned chicken - may include chicken nuggets, chicken strips, canned chicken, etc.)

-Other Poultry Meat: (contains minimum of 2 pounds bone-in or 1 pound deboned meat from a bird other than chicken. Examples: turkey, duck, quail, dove, emu, ostrich, pheasant, pigeon, guinea, grouse)

CLOVER NATION PARTICIPATION… is our new club for homeschooled youth, youth who missed the deadline for signing up at their school club or for youth who may not have a 4-H club at their schools. We had 9 members attend the first meeting! If you think you may want to join this club, the next meeting will be held on Thursday, November 15th, 6:00-7:00 p.m. at the Boardwalk. The group will be meeting outdoors past the water fountain, next to the old bowling area where the picnic tables are located.
