I hereby acknowledge the receipt of a copy of a letter addressed to Barry Jenner ofGallaher, from Kim Connett from the Wace Group .

I am aware of, and have worked with the Wace Group over a number of years . Theyhave a well-deserved reputation for producing work to a high standard, and have beentrying to put right many popular misconceptions and dispel the enormous amount of'mis-information' surrounding the enormous changes that have happened and continueto happen in the entire area of Pre-Press . Over the last few years, they have workedincreasingly with Clients direct on 'through-the-line implementation of 'core' Creativework, particularly with Clients who have a need for suppliers that offer World-widecommunication capability .

I read with great interest their suggestion of digitally storing a single image to ensureconsistency and speed of service . It's a very timely suggestion, in the light of the recentsuccessful completion of our first 'photographic-film-free' creative execution, 'Goldfish' .For you reference, here's some background as to how we currently approach theproduction of any material for Gallaher .

As I'm sure you know, with 'Goldfish' we were supplied with a digital image on CDfrom our chosen photographer, which we have subsequently used, adjusted, adaptedand issued at various resolutions, both in transparency and various digital formats forsupply to both publications and to 'sister' suppliers of Gallaher on Benson & Hedgesbusiness .

This method also helped us enormously with the 'Branding' or lozenge issue . We wereable to create a 3D version of the logo(as there was not a master in existence), which wethen read on to our Network, to incorporate within existing images, and which we wereable to supply in both artwork and digital form to Reacta, for the poster executions, and to Tapestry, our chosen retouching supplier, to add the branding in variousdifferent positions for the press aspect of the schedule . We have been able to ensuretherefore, that there is absolute consistency throughout the campaign, even though theneeds for posters(given that we are working with screened gold ink) and pressreproduction are very different . We now hold hard copy and digital 3D reference of theB & H Logo should it be needed for any further use in the future .

If the issue of which suppliers we use has come from a need to look at budgets please letme know, and I can arrange a meeting to discuss the issue with Gallaher . I do assureyou that I police very thoroughly the speed, quality of service and the pricing structurethat we have with all our Pre-Press suppliers . We could cut corners by negotiating lowerprices on repro or retouching for example by 'shopping around' . I have always believedhowever that trying to save money on the final, most crucial stage of the Pre-Pressprocess, i .e . ; reproduction is a false economy .

Do let me know if Barry, or anyone else at Gallaher are keen to visit the Wace Group,as I would very much like to accompany them, to give any technical back-up or just toact as a sounding board for any specific questions they may have. If, however it is notfelt necessary to follow up any of the points or issues raised by this letter through Wacedirect, I would be happy to organise one or more presentations with either our Repro,Retouching or print suppliers, all of whom are keen to show their 'wares' and involveboth Agency and Client in the very latest developments that may have a direct impacton their business .

Let me know if you'd like me to pursue any of the suggestions I have made above, I canorganise presentations with a couple of days notice . Hope this is of help with yourresponse to Barry .
