Federal Reserve Bank Check Modernization ProjectPhew, it’s done! Unfortunately even with all of our preparation, 50 percent of the ImageCenter client base experienced a problem importing FedReceipt files due to non-compliant X9 data included in the incoming files.

Many clients have asked why testing didn’t reveal this problem, and although we do not have an answer to this specific question, here is what we do know:

■ The FRB made no changes to FedReceipt formats as part of the Check Modernization project.

■ Two operational units within Jack Henry and Associates performed in-depth testing prior to the FRB change, using FedReceipt files provided by the FRB. No issues were reported and no software changes were made.

■ Each release was tested in the field between at least one Client and the FRB. No issues were reported and no software changes were made.

■ The issue was never reported prior to conversion.

It is suspected, although not confirmed, that a few financial institutions may have implemented changes in support of this project, causing downstream effects for others.

In response to the failure, our development team worked through the night to remove the X9 field validation rules that prevented the non-compliant data from importing, and all impacted clients were fixed on day two of the conversion. At this time, we have no plans to back this change out of the release, as validation on the non-compliant fields is deemed non-critical.

We appreciate your patience during this time! Although this situation was not desirable for anyone involved, we hope you found our response satisfactory.

Product RoadmapThe fourth quarter of this year finds both the ImageCenter Engineering and Quality Assurance team’s busy working on the next major platform release, ImageCenter 2013.0.

The release is expected to include deeper integration of the JHA Check21 Image Exchange Interface within the ImageCenter environment, including single sign-on and support of load-balancing. In addition, it will include various customer requested fraud interface enhancements. This release is currently targeted for general availability during the summer of 2013. As always, you can follow our major release status on the ImageCenter Client Resource SharePoint site.

The Quality Assurance team recently completed the certification testing of the second maintenance release for the ImageCenter 2012.0 platform. Of particular note, this second maintenance release

contains full support for automated voids through ITC, improved image display within IER and Balancing, and auto free/transaction-level balancing improvements amongst other software changes. This release is expected to be available as a customer downloadable and installable package. Watch for additional information on how to obtain this package once customer beta is complete.

Once again, please be reminded that the ImageCenter 2010.x platform has been retired. As such, neither additional maintenance releases nor hot fixes are provided on this or any earlier release. Customers on one of these releases are strongly encouraged to contact ImageCenter Installation Services to discuss and schedule an upgrade to a newer release of the ImageCenter platform.

Enhancement Submission Process 2.0We are pleased to see the launch of Enhancement Submission Process (ESP) 2.0, announced in October. ESP is Jack Henry and Associates standard application for managing customer change requests. The enhancements include single sign-on via the For Clients Portal, new discussion boards, and enhanced management allowing financial institutions to manage their requests.

The submission window is now closed. The ImageCenter team is currently reviewing submissions, and ESP voting began on January 14. Please vote by accessing ESP via the Tools / Administration menu in the For Client Portal. Important dates and training guides can also be found on this page.

Product Advisory Group UpdateOn October 25, 2012, we held our ImageCenter ATM Solutions Product Advisory Group (PAG) meeting. In this meeting we introduced the New ESP 2.0 application, gave an Operations update, provided a recap of the ImageCenter 2012 release, and solicited feedback on the use of Image Quality and Usability for the back office.

We also held an ImageCenter Branch Solutions PAG meeting January 24, and have the next ATM Solutions PAG meeting scheduled for April 25. In these meetings we will review enhancements, discuss best practices, and request product feedback. Keep an eye out for detailed meeting information sent via Subscription Manager

Application training experts will work with key stakeholders to develop a custom, onsite workshop where we will review your current ImageCenter solution implementation, provide training on identified knowledge gaps, make targeted, best-practice recommendations, and suggest strategies to optimize the overall workflow and efficiency of your solution.

The goals of this program are to:

■ Assess your performance needs and define your desired results.

■ Customize delivery to ensure the program meets your unique requirements.

■ Leverage onsite, expert assistance to achieve your goals.

■ Identify and analyze your ImageCenter environment, processes, and user roles and responsibilities.

■ Assess your level of understanding of the application and workflow; provide training to fill knowledge gaps.

■ Examine process workflows to ensure best-practice application.

■ Introduce features that could streamline your process.

■ Verify that users and security groups have the necessary permissions.

■ Evaluate monitoring, maintenance, and back-up procedures.

■ Suggest setting and configuration changes to enhance system usage.

■ Determine the causes of performance gaps.

■ Recommend training and non-training solutions to performance needs.

■ Write a report of findings and recommendations.

Educational consulting is ideal for those who are new to ImageCenter, as well as those who are current ImageCenter users or upgrading from previous versions of our software. Implementation of the current ImageCenter release or one version back is required. The cost of this workshop is $5,250 for up to three days onsite, plus travel and expense for the trainer.

IMAGECENTER™ CLIENT BULLETINFEBRUARY 2013

Dear Blanche BundlesDear Blanche Bundles: Does it matter what date we use for our outgoing returns file and why?

Signed: When Do I Start Dating

Dear Dating: You must create your outgoing return file with the same date used when the items were processed as inclearings. This is important because the date, in combination with the check system sequence number, is used by Check21 to find the original item within the ImageCenter data store. If the correct date is not used, the application will be unable to locate and return the items.

Note: The Check System Sequence number is called the DIN in ImageCenter. From a Check 21 perspective, ImageCenter is the “Check System”.

As a side note, because the date and check system sequence/DIN must match between Check21 and ImageCenter, ImageCenter will not allow users to change the date of an Inclearing bundle. Good news - with the release of 2013, which includes integration of Check 21 into ImageCenter, we plan to enhance the bundle date change feature to maintain date integrity between the two data stores. This will allow users to change the date on inclearing bundles without calling into support.

Dear Blanche Bundles: Our FI uses Track Client to run branch capture work. We recently heard about Document Scanning Client and were curious what the benefits were versus Track Client. Can you help?

Signed: Scanned Out

Dear Scanned Out: Document Scanning Client (DSC) offers many benefits as compared to Track Client. First and foremost, it allows the tellers or processors to see their item images as they are scanned, and can even offer a front-line balancing option to alleviate balancing requirements in the back office.

From a technology perspective, DSC is more in line with other ImageCenter products, and is easier to install, upgrade and manage than Track Client. The only caveat is that DSC is intended for scanners, and does not work with high/med speed sorters (such as the NDP300-series). For additional information, please contact your account manager or sales representative.

Dear Blanche Bundles: I attempted to import a third party file into ImageCenter, but the file failed import. What can I do in this situation?

Signed: Ultimately Failed

Dear Ultimately Failed: If you currently run ImageCenter version 2010 and higher, there is a simple and quick way to check! Once you log into Document Processing Client, click on Maintenance, then Bundle Import. Once the screen appears, click on the Resubmit tab and it will display failed file imports. Once you determine the failed file, you have the option to highlight and resubmit from the same screen!

Do you have a question for Blanche Bundles?

You can send Blanche Bundles an email at [email protected].

Services and Support News

Personnel ChangesWe are pleased to announce that Shea Riley has joined our Installation Services team as an Application Analyst. Shea comes to us from a technical support background with a broad range of supported products and systems. He is recently married and is pursuing a Computer Science Degree. He has already worked as a secondary on a new ImageCenter implementation, and has acted as primary on a number of add-on projects. We expect him to be in full action by the New Year. Please join us in welcoming Shea to the team!

Non-Production SystemsDo you have a plan in place to allow for check processing in the event of hardware failure? How are you handling testing for new releases or configuration changes? Does training new staff rely entirely on production level scenarios potentially impacting real time work? If any of the above is a concern for your organization, you may be interested in implementing one or more non-production ImageCenter systems. What does non-production mean? Simply put it is a licensed system that has limited use and is maintained independently from the production system. Please contact your Account Executive for additional details.

Staying CurrentImageCenter produces one major version release per year, typically in July. Unlike maintenance updates or hotfixes, a major version typically includes several product enhancements and feature updates. A major version may also include data model or user interface changes; as a result training or process updates may be required. When upgrading across multiple major versions these changes increase the user impact as well as the risk of a adjustments needing to be made post upgrade to accommodate data migration, configuration port to new settings, or even permission/access requirements. Staying current reduces those risks as well as allowing for access to the latest features and integration services. Be sure to budget for major version upgrades regularly. Please contact your Account Executive or Installation Services for more details.

2013 Holiday ScheduleImageCenter is closed on observed FRB Holidays. Below are the holidays for the first quarter of 2013:

■ Monday, February 18, 2013 – President’s Day

Feature SunsetIn an ongoing effort to provide reliable high-quality products, ProfitStars periodically retires (also known as “sunsets”) older features of the ImageCenter software. Several months ago, we informed ImageCenter users that we would no longer be supporting the Power Encode feature. Therefore, as part of the ImageCenter 2012 release, ProfitStars has permanently removed the Power Encode option. Current Power Encode users should migrate to digital cash letters. Also, as of the ImageCenter 2013 release the Vendor Check-in feature will only be available as a custom option for current users. In release 2014, Vendor Check-in will be permanently retired.

CustomizationsWhile using the standard report or posting options may be easier to implement or support, sometimes a customization can improve the efficiency of a related process, thereby reducing work effort for ImageCenter users or accounting personnel long-term. In these cases the benefits of providing a custom report or posting file may outweigh the risks associated with support.

If you are interested in customizing a report or posting file for your specific use, please submit your business requirements to the ImageCenter Technical Support Department, or work with your Installation Project Team. A formal programming estimate will be provided for your review and decision.

ImageCenter DocumentationDid you know that ImageCenter releases include documentation that is specific to the release? Where applicable this includes reference guides and application programming guides (API). This documentation is copied electronically to the server with your ImageCenter software, and starting in release 2011, was also made available through the Help menu.

If you need assistance with locating release documentation, please contact the ImageCenter Technical Support Department or work with your Installation Project Team.
