November 7-Mary Ellen Clark has

been named Neepawa’s 2012 Sportsman of the Year for her tireless efforts in supporting the Neepawa Natives as a fan and billet coordinator.

Meanwhile, former Ca-nadian Heavyweight Cham-pion George Chuvalo kept the audience interested with personal stories about his family’s struggles with drugs and his personal experiences as a boxer.

-HMK’s Halloween pa-rade brought out superhe-roes, supervillains, classic ‘boogeymen’ and even Dis-ney princesses as students showed off their costumes to friends and family in the gymnasium.

-Neepawa’s Pat Angers has been announced for the 2013 induction class of the Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame (MBHOF) as part of the 1956-61 team from Mi-ami, Man.

This will be Angers’ fourth time being inducted into provincial hall of fame, being inducted to the MB-HOF as an individual in 2007, and to the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame and Manitoba Hockey Hall of

Fame as part of the 1958-59 Memorial Cup Champions Winnipeg Braves team.

November 14-It’s Time’s Ineke Mack

is proudly displaying her Oma’s bicycle in her store window during this time of remembrance.

Mack’s family farm in Holland was taken over by Nazis during the war and, when the family returned to the home following the war, the bike was still safe and sound, hidden in the hay-loft.

-The Beautiful Plains School Division hosted a public meeting to explain possible solutions surround-ing Neepawa schools’ grow-ing enrolment issues.

Possible solutions includ-ed adding a middle school, moving Grade 5 and/or 6 students to NACI, adding portable classrooms and us-ing surrounding area schools for some grades.

The Division is expected to continue looking for solu-tions.

December 12-The Roxy Theatre is

ready to go digital, has reached its goal of fundrais-ing around $100,000, and has ensured it will be in the community for years to come.

Fundraising allowed the theatre to purchase a new screen, digital projector, ste-reo system and microphones for meetings.

-The Beautiful Plains Medical Clinic is beginning its expansion that will allow for nine new rooms to be built at the clinic, making 14 to 15 rooms for doctors.

The expansion aims to accommodate more doctors coming to Neepawa.

-The Farmery, brewed from crops harvested in Ar-den, is now being sold in

liquor marts and restaurants in Westman. In Neepawa, the product has been excep-tionally popular.

-Neepawa will no longer be featured as a court venue following an announcement by the Province that con-solidates Neepawa’s court dates to Minnedosa to help “deliver service in the most cost-effi cient manner”.

-The Arden Community Theatre put on a great per-formance of ‘Dirty Deeds Come Clean’

-Kelly Robertson’s curl-ing rink has been named a fi nalist for the Manitoba Sportswriters and Sports-casters Association (MSSA) 2012 Team of the Year.

Robertson’s crew was also nominated for the award last year.

-The Neepawa Basketball League kicked off this year with the league expanding to 12 teams.

team has been chosen to send 13 males to Toronto to rep-resent Manitoba in the Nike High School Grand Prix.

The selection follows a year where NACI won sev-eral medals at the provincial competition and coach Ko-scielny was named Athletics Manitoba’s Coach to Watch.

-Ron and Dwayne Fors-man have been awarded the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Award in Ottawa for their contributions in the para-medics fi eld.

-The Bamboo Restaurant will see new owners take over the helms in December who will be keeping some of the popular menu items

while adding a few new fea-tures.

-Neepawa’s UCW has celebrated its 50th anniver-sary. About 160 women are still involved in the group.

-Neepawa’s youngest business owner 17-year-old Dalton Gilmore has opened shop, PC Mini Tech, and is ready to start servicing com-puter needs.

-The NACI Tigers junior varsity volleyball squad has reached the provincial play-offs after claiming the Zone 7 title.

-Spruce Plains RCMP have executed a search war-rant in Plumas resulting in the seizure of about 140 marihuana plants, a quantity of hashish, indoor growing equipment and drug para-phernalia.

The value of the drugs is about $60,000 and a 27-year-old was arrested at the residence.

-Lexie Poncsak has opened the doors at Pure Beauty Studio, a chemical-free hairstyling salon in Kel-wood.

-Grant ‘Hymie’ Hurrell is the latest recipient of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Award after being nomi-nated for his community involvement in sports and time spent as an auxiliary offi cer for the RCMP.

-The Junior Varsity girls basketball team from NACI shocked the competition at the U of Manitoba’s JV Girls Tournament, claiming the championship.

The Tigers defeated two AAAA, one AAA and a AA school en route to the cham-pionship.

-Halle Hayhurst, a basket-ball and volleyball athlete, Matthew Sneesby, a leader on the volleyball and hock-ey teams, and Taylor Allen, a junior high volleyball star, have been named the NA-CI’s November Athletes of the Month.

Ms. Diane Derkach, aged 66 years, of Neepawa, Manitoba, passed away Monday December 3, 2012 in the Neepawa Manitoba General Hospital.

Born in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba.

Ms. Diane Derkach was employed by Assiniboine Regional

Health Authority, Neepawa Home Care for 28 years, retiring in 2011.

She is survived by her son and four sisters:Mr. Dennis Derkach (Luisa) of Surrey, BC, Mrs. Sylvia

Sims (Wes) of Calgary, Alberta, Mrs. Marie Best of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Mrs. Jean Fyfe (Robert) of Transcona, Manitoba and Mrs. Rose Millage (Bud) of Ontario.

SYNTAK“SOAR WITH THE EAGLES”

It is with great sadness that we announce the peace-ful passing, after a courageous ght with cancer, of our beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather and friend Phillip(Phil) Roger Syntak on Sunday, December 9, 2012 at the Neepawa Health Centre with us all by his side.

Phil was the eldest child born to Walter and Rena Syntak on April 23, 1948 in Minnedosa, Manitoba. Phil started his working career as a milkman with the Minnedosa Co-op Creamery rst out of Winnipeg and returning to his home roots of Minnedosa working several years alongside his father. With his keen business sense he soon ventured off with a partner and started S & S Milk Services. Phil then became the proud owner of Phil’s Grocery and Confectionery, which he ran from 1991 to 2009 when he went into semi-retirement and became the contract driver for the Neepawa District Handy Transit.

Phil was always very good with people and loved being around all people conversing, laughing and joking with one and all and will be sorely missed.

Phil was predeceased by his parents Walter and Rena, brother Bruce and wife June. He leaves to mourn his pass-ing his loving wife of eight plus years Elsie Slimmon; sister Karen (Doug) Kuculym; sons Stephen (Kim), Roger (Bo); daughters Michelle (Steve) Formaniuk, Nicole (Tyler) Bileski; stepchildren Allison and James Boxshall, Shawna (Larry) Chartrand, Angela Tremaine, Jennifer Forsythe and family. Also left to mourn are grandchildren Keenan, Alyia, Avery, Delaney, Courtney, Stephen; step grandchildren Brady, Noah, Jackson, Krista, Amanda, Jenelle and James along with nephews David and Jason Kuculym and nieces Jill (Derek) Magis and family and Kelly and family.

Celebration of Life was held Thursday, December 13, 2012 at the Neepawa United Church with Rita Friesen of ciating. A private family interment followed at the Minnedosa Cemetery. Whites Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Lois Jury was born in Neepawa, December 20, 1951 and passed away peacefully at Hillcrest Place on December 9, 2012.

Lois was the rst of ve children born to Albert and Thelma. In Lois' younger years she had the misfortune of ill health and moved to Brandon and was cared for in different facilities. Her last twenty four years were made very pleasant with the care she received in Hillcrest Place, for which the family are very thankful.

She was very appreciative of her family and special friends.

She was predeceased by her father Albert in 2003, her grandmother Nellie Graham in 1999, her grandfather Leighton Graham in 1988, grandmother Alice Jury in 1972. Lois is survived by her Mother Thelma, sister Linda, her daughter Crystal (Clayton Bober), brothers Keith (Debbie) their children Jody, Kerry and Kevin (Becky), Donald (Marlette) their children Raelyn Stephen, and Eric, and David. Two great-nieces Averi Jury and Madison Bober. All will miss her dearly.

A funeral was held in Yellowhead Complex in Neepawa on Saturday, December 15. Having a part in the service were Richard Knight, Tom Young, Sharon Dorry, Dennise Thune and Ricki Woods. Casket bearers were all of Lois' 7 nieces and nephews. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery.

ALLAN KENNETH FEHRJULY 4, 1949 – JANUARY 1, 2013

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Allan

Kenneth Fehr, on January 1, 2013, after a 4 year battle with cancer, at the Neepawa Health Centre, with his wife Margaret and cousin Greg at his side.

Allan attended Blake School and WMCI in Gladstone. When

he was nished with school he worked for the Royal Bank for 3 1/2

years in their branches at Beausejour, Selkirk, Steinbach, Pierson and McCreary.

Early in the spring of 1971, Allan left the bank to go farming. He married the love of his life Margaret Ford on May 22, 1971.

In January 1982 Allan began working for Farm Business Consultants as a tax consultant. In addition to working with FBC, Allan returned to active farming for a few years. Allan left FBC and in 1993 started A & M Income Tax with the of ce in their home. In recent years Allan served on the boards of the Gladstone Austin Natural Gas Coop and Riverside Community Residence.

Allan is predeceased by his parents Victor and Elsie Fehr; parents-in-law Ken and Helen Ford; brother Ronald and step nephew Cody Davis.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife Margaret; son Rodney and wife Lisa; daughter Sherri and husband Jason Spurrell and son Jeff and ancé Nora Goodyear. Allan had 9 grandchildren Elizabeth, Kimberly, Kathryn, Timothy and Mattias Fehr and Jesse, Justin, Ethan and Abi Spurrell.

He is also survived by sister Lorna (Owen) McGorman; brothers Gerald (Kerry) Fehr and Glenn (Laurie) Fehr; sister-in-law Joanne Fehr; brothers-in-law Gorden (Debbie) Ford and Ernie (Linda) Ford and sisters-in-law Ruth (Leander) Unger and Lorna (Reg) Rivett as well as 23 nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.

Funeral service was held January 9, 2013 at the Gladstone Christian Fellowship with Pastor Randy Fehr of ciating. Burial at the Gladstone Cemetery was held prior to the service.Clarke’s Funeral Home, Gladstone in care of arrangements.
