The Iowa Falls Board of Educa- tion was called to order in regular session at 7:00 p.m. with Moore, Gimer, and Stauffer present and Bicknese arriving at 7:35 p.m. 2. A quorum of members was de- clared. 3. The agenda was approved in a motion by Gimer, second by Moore; motion carried 3-0. 4. Visitors were welcomed. 5. Correspondence was received from Kate and Ron Hornung, and from a Rock Run staff member. 6. Contracts were approved for Mark Albrecht as Middle School wrestling coach, Haley Christians as JV Dance coach, Kyle Hutchin- son as High School Principal, Ash- ley Kuker as TLC Data Coordinator, Kathy Stockdale as TLC 5th Grade PLC Liaison, Jill Wachal as Ele- mentary Principal/Title I Teacher, Kellie Paes as Food Service Work- er and Connie Stubbe as custodian. Transfers were approved for Kathy Stockdale from 3rd grade to 5th grade, Kaylee Borcherding from 1st grade to Kindergarten and Nichole Allen from 5th grade to TLC Suc- cess Coach. Resignations were ac- cepted from Lisa Buss as High School Spanish teacher, Kasey Horn as 5th Grade Teacher, Kate Frohwein as Teacher Associate, Kyle Hutchinson as Middle School basketball coach and baseball coach, Jack Miller as Food Service worker and custodian, and Kevin Seidl as Middle School football coach. Driver Education instructor pay was increased by $5 per stu- dent. E. There were no open enrollment applications. F. Interagency agreements were ap proved with Eldora-New Providence Community School District for the Shared Level 3 BD program; Alden Community School District for shared positions to include Physical Education/Health instructor (.5), Di- rector of Student Transportation (.25), Director of Facilities and Maintenance (.75), ELL Teacher (.10), 5th and 6th Grade Instrumen- tal Music Instructor (.25), and So- cial Worker (.20); Buena Vista Uni- versity for student teaching, and Lu- ther College for student teaching. G. A contract amendment was ap- proved with American United Life Insurance Company. 9. Unfinished Business A. Facility improvement projects were discussed. B. Updates were given on current projects. The board requested a presentation on lighting bids/specs for the high school auditorium. Gimer moved to approve the pur- chase of 440 student laptops with Apple Care. ($394,680). Stauffer seconded and motion carried 4-0. C. The board reviewed teacher feedback on the ten-minute extend- ed day. This will be an agenda item in June for further discussion. D. Gimer moved to make an adjust- ment to the 2019-20 calendar, mov- ing the professional development day from 10/18/19 to 10/25/19 Moore seconded and motion car- ried 4-0. 10. New Business A. The school improvement adviso- ry committee met prior to the board meeting. Discussion of the agenda items was held. B. Student achievement results for the 2018-19 school year are incom- plete for Pineview, Rock Run and the Middle School. This position will be the primary counselor for providing assessments as well as individual and group counseling for the youth at the STS. Mr. Swartzendruber provided details about the DARE program and graduation. He also noted the upcoming reading business chal- lenge and academic screenings. Mr. Burchfield mentioned the up- coming Spring concert and the Clarity survey. He also informed the board about ESSA action plan steps. Mr. Robison related that Pineview students will be taking FAST assessments. He also noted that Jill Wachal has visited Pineview. Mr. Neumann announced the new Twitter hashtag, and set forth various course changes for FY20. Upcoming dates to note in- clude Senior’s last day, Awards Night, graduation, Earth Day and fi- nals. 13. Stauffer moved to enter into closed session at 8:56 p.m. as pro- vided for in the Code of Iowa Chap- ter 20, Section 17, to conduct a strategy meeting of a public em- ployer. Gimer seconded and motion carried in a roll call vote as follows: AYES: Moore, Gimer, Bicknese and Stauffer. NAYS: None.
