As measures for global warming, with energy-saving activities for

equipment, each plant is promoting CO2 reduction by developing

and introducing production processes with less energy consumption.

Total emission of CO2 has been decreased by 6% by 2002 FY

compared with 1990 FY, benchmark year.

CalsonicKansei shows target "CO2 reduction by 6% (Min.) on the

basic unit basis by 2008 FY compared with 1990 FY" and promotes

energy saving activities.

Regular holding of "Energy-saving Engineering Seminar" for training energy-saving checker

CalsonicKansei regularly holds "Energy-saving Engineering Seminar". The purposes of the seminar are to study electric and heat energies and the method for arranging concrete items in production plants including related affiliates, to train in-house energy-saving checkers in each district who will be leaders in the energy-saving activities, and to promotes energy saving by spreading the idea.

"Introduction meeting of energy-saving cases"

Excellent cases of energy-saving in each plant in 2002 FY were selected, introduced, and commended at the end of the fiscal year in introduction meeting of energy-saving cases including related companies to encourage energy-saving activity. All energy-saving cases implemented in each plant are compiled into a pamphlet at the end of the fiscal year and distributed into all CalsonicKansei Groups (plants and affiliates in Japan) for the purpose of information spreading.

(Pamphlet of energy-saving cases)

"Major energy saving cases in plats"

CalsonicKansei is promoting establishment of a recycling-oriented society and environmental load reduction in production activities through energy-saving activities and

reduction of ‚ CO2 emission by energy conversion, waste reduction, elimination of environmental load substances, and control of environmental load substances.

Major activities

①Activities for zero landfill of scrap plastic

③Scrap substrate is material-recycled to precious metal. ④General glass and bottle are recycled as gardening supply and roadbed material.

⑤Recycling of reel, stick, and tray ⑥Recovery and recycling of PET bottle

②Reduction of cardboard

We have established a crusher in a cafeteria and ask the supplier to recover and recycle the crushed material. As for empty box, can, bottle for drink, we also ask the suppliers to recover and recycle them.

Reel around which electronic parts are wound, connector, and stick and tray for housing were thermal-recycled before, but now they are reused.

Returnable box has reduced use volume of cardboard by 80% for two years. Twenty percent of cardboard is recycled as recycled material.

Bearing in mind the coexistence with the neighbors of plants, CalsonicKansei is taking activities on the basis of the idea to prevent negative impact to the neighbors. Each plant is voluntarily inspecting soil and groundwater. For concern over regional influence, CalsonicKansei positively takes preventive actions through independent investigation.Omiya plant used trichloroethylene, volatile organic compound, to degrease metal parts. Because pollution of soil and groundwater by trichloroethylene was found in premises, soil has been depolluted since March 2002.

Measures for soil and groundwater

PRTR: Pollutant Release & Transfer RegisterAll plants in CalsonicKansei are doing PRTR to understand release and transfer of object substances and to take measures for reduction of release.
