Minutes of the Previous Meeting : Taken as read by members.

Business Arising from Previous Minutes : None.

President’s Report : Mick Davies, an E-Type owner & E-Type Register member, very sadly passed away on 29 June while at work with SA Police. Peter wished to express his sincere commiserations & condolences to his family on behalf of all members of the JDCSA. Mick was very well liked & respected by all Club members who knew him.

Cats & Cans. Peter thanked all involved, particularly to Phil Prior for organising this very successful event. The Salvation Army people were overwhelmed by the support from the JDCSA members. It is expected this will become an annual event.

Police Club dining : has improved this month following Peter’s discussion with staff after last month’s difficulties which caused significant delay to the start of the June general meeting.

AGM Nominations : Peter said all Executive positions would become vacant. He asked that nominations be lodged as early as possible (for the September AGM). Noel & Carmel Trew have been responsible for Membership for some years, and have decided they will not be able to stand again for the position. Also, Pete & Kathy Taylor will not be standing again for the position of Editor (as Pete is taking on new studies).

Federation of Historic Motor Cars SA : Peter Holland, Julian Lugg, Onslow Billinghurst & Neil Murrie attended a recent ‘Conditional Registration’ seminar of the FOHMC. Julian will summarise the main points in his Secretary’s report.

Vice President’s Report: As Di was away, there was no report.

Secretary’s Report: Julian reported on the Federation of Historic Motor Cars (FOHMC) recent seminar on 30 June regarding Conditional Registration (which he attended with Peter Holland, Onslow Billinghurst and Neil Murrie). In summary, the most relevant aspect for JDCSA relates to Historic Registration, and :

There is an updated Code of Conduct (in a booklet & pamphlet) that has additional flexibility in some areas, e.g., LPG & disc brakes.

Users are encouraged to use common sense, and to be mindful of the spirit & intent of the CoC in its interpretation. The JDCSA has until 31 Dec 2012 to accept the scheme.

At Log Book renewal time each year, Statutory Declarations signed by a JP will be required.

Car inspections (low key) will be required every 3 years. (Uses MR334 Forms).

JDCSA records will need to be retained for 5 years.

Applicable only for cars built up to 31 December 1978.

Can’t make changes to cars that would be outside of the rules.

Dept of Transport will be auditing car clubs.

Julian said he is comfortable with the requirements and where we are now with them. Julian & Peter (Holland) will prepare a draft report (for JDCSA members and ask for their comments) on how best to manage :

Annual Stat Decs Inspections (will likely need to stagger inspection

times). Record keeping

Julian also reported he had received :

(1) Interstate magazines

(2) Rock & Roll Festival entry forms : 15 & 16 September, Victor Harbor.

(3) Fleurieu Flounder Southern Fleurieu Tour entry forms, Fri 30 Aug – Sun 3 Sept.

(4) Cars for sale : 2005 S-Type V6 $35,000 ono Kevin 0402 933 409; 2001 S-Type V6 $8,000 unregistered 0417 890 599; X300 wrecking , also 0417 890 599. Further details are with the Editor.

(5) Noted that 200 log books have already been done.

Editor : As Peter & Kathy had sent an apology, there was no report.

Web Editor : There have been some recent technical difficulties with sending out renewal notices via email, but Tom has the situation under control.

Treasurers’ Report :Tim reported that the 30 June unaudited report was very nearly finished and would definitely be available at the next meeting.

Membership Secretary: Noel reported:

384 membership renewal advices have been posted out

263 renewals have been received 5 members have cancelled 116 renewals are outstanding

Events Coordinator: Philip wished to congratulate everyone involved in the success of the Cats & Cans Day.

There were 26 cars & 50 members in attendance at Bonython Park who donated 1,768 items of food and toilet rolls to the Salvo’s. There was a great Jaguar spirit evident by the fun had by all JDCSA members and also

Page 4: Classic Marque August 2012

the Salvos who were ‘over the moon’ with the generosity of the Jaguar Club people.

Linda Goed of the Ingle Farm Salvation Army said they were all genuinely overwhelmed by the huge generosity --- and wished to thank all Jaguar Club people very much as it means so much to many needy families.

Phil said it was a very busy & very humbling morning --- and hopes this could become an annual event. There are some great photos on our Club website.

Club Register Reports:

XK, Mk 7 ,8 ,9 : next meeting, 4 July at Billinghurst’s home.

SS & Daimler : next meeting, 27 July at Don Evan’s home.

E-type : Alan said there were about 20 at the last meeting at The Shed. Next meeting, 19 July at The Shed.

Compact : Geoff said the next meeting will be at Alan Baker’s ‘The Shed’ at 58 Repton Rd Somerton Park.

Multivalve : Ron advised the Globe Derby Park event would be next Saturday 7 July. It would be a seafood smorgasbord for $35/head.

Next meeting is 7:30 for 8:00pm Tuesday 24 July at the home of Ray Smithers & Judy Langdon.

Peter Clarke reported on an event planned for the October long weekend --- a Register hosting run to Portland. The run would head off on Friday 28 September. Saturday would include a run to Warrnambool, then Sunday to Port MacDonnell, with a Sunday night stay at The Barn in Mt Gambier (where contact & credit card details will be required in advance, and a $50 deposit required asap). Monday’s lunch will be in Robe before heading home.

XJ, 420G, Mk 10 :

Bob advised the Club Annual Dinner is fast approaching on Saturday 28 July --- and Daphne reports she has 61 people booked so far.

Bob also mentioned the hosting next month to the Pichi Richi Railway on 17, 18 & 19 August. He asked that the required $100 deposit please be submitted by 11 July for those wishing to attend what promises to be a very special weekend.

V12 : no report as Roger is away. Next meeting will be at 7pm on Friday 13 July (being the 2nd Friday of the month) at Roger & Di’s place.

Club Librarian :

Tom reported that he has the usual books, and some new E-Type DVD’s.

Regalia Officer :

Dave presented the new winter range of jackets, shirts, jumpers & polo shirts. He also said he had a great range of badges, stickers & caps.

ACJC :

Rick reported that SA would not be hosting the next Jaguar National Rally. It seems a number of other

ACJC clubs are beginning to agree with SA’s stance on concours events. The next ACJC meeting is in September.

Federation of Historic Motor Cars (FOHMC) :

Neil Murrie continued with some further details regarding the FOHMC seminar (that he had attended) and relating to Historic Registration. Examples are :

LP gas now allowed, but must have been fitted during the working life of the car.

Fibreglass panels now allowed, although must be exactly the same size as the original metal panels.

If the car is pre 1949, now allowed to have parts from the same model up to 1954.

If caught without a properly completed logbook, an owner will then need to obtain a Stat Dec before Historic Registration can be restored.

MSCA :

Barry Kitts advised of a Super Sprint Day at Mallala next Sunday 8 July.

He also reported he’d recently been to Alaska where there was lots of snow. In contrast though, he’d also been to Las Vegas, where the temperature was 40 degrees Celsius, just before arriving home to Adelaide’s 12 degrees.

He reported on the great range of cars that can be hired in Las Vegas for driving on a race track --- from $199 for 5 laps in a Corvette Grand Sport --- $250 for an Aston Martin DB9, $300 for a Ferrari F430, $400 for a Ferrari 458 or McLaren MP4, $700 for a Lamborghini Aventador.

General Business:

Magazine font : Barry Kitts wants the magazine to use a bigger font.

Bay to Birdwood on 30 September 2012: Ray Offe advised that a BBQ lunch for $14 will be held on the lawns of the Gumeracha Hospital. Please see the advert in the magazine --- and book with Ray Offe on 8389 4436 or see Ray at the 4 September Club general meeting at the latest.

Fickle Finger of Fate : Peter (Holland) & Ray Smithers are looking for candidates for this award for presentation at the Annual Club Dinner on 28 July. Please contact either Peter or Ray asap with your stories.

Wrecking, 420G : Alan Baker advised a 420G is being wrecked at Classic & Sports Car Boutique --- and it has perfect woodwork. Also, at Regency Park are 2 Mk2’s for sale at $2,500 for both of them, one being complete and the other is a body shell.

Peter thanked the E-Type Register for providing supper and for taking the Meeting Minutes.

Meeting concluded at 8:45pm.

PRESIDENTS REPORT August 2012

Our Dinner Dance held on 28 July will be remembered by those who attended for a long time as one of the most enjoyable we have had. As always, excellent company with over 90 members present, supported by a first class venue, food and entertainment. I must congratulate Peter Clark, not only for his smooth presentation as MC, but also for his “magic” rendition of Halleluiah with special words to reflect the history of our favorite cars. Surely a highlight of the evening.

A big thank you must also go to Bob and Daphne Charman for putting the night together for our enjoyment. Thank you Bob and Daphne for all your hard work.

Congratulations to the recipients of the various awards, presented on the night. Rick Luff, Club Person of the Year; Dave Bicknell, Jaguaritis Editors Award; Noel

and Carmel Trew; Presidents Award; Special mentions to the Club Inspectors, Don Evans, Evan Spartalis, Onslow Billinghurst and Geoff Mockford; Webmaster, Tom Herraman and our youngest new member, Scott Adamson. In addition the work and support of the Register Secretaries was acknowledged with a suitable bottle of Jaguar red. And finally, Ray Smithers was presented with his certificate for 30 years continuous membership of the Club. Ray in turn presented the Fickle Finger of Fate awards to Jack and Jean Richardson and Bob and Judy Lynch for memorable misdemeanors committed during the year.

Remember, next year will be the 40th anniversary of the Club. An extra special celebratory dinner dance is already in the planning stage, so pencil the date into your diary now. It would be great to see the majority of members at that event. If you intend to be there it is not too early to put your name down------just let Di Adamson know. The numbers may well determine the final venue chosen for the night.

Whilst on the subject of 40 years of the Club, Ros and I caught up with Graham and Jan Franklin on our recent visit to Darwin. Graham was member number eight and on the very first committee elected at the inaugural meeting held 25th July 1973 at the Brecknock Hotel. He and Jan went to Darwin for 3 years and 31 years on are still there!! However they both have fond memories of the JDCSA and always ask after various members they knew in Adelaide, how the club is going and of course the often used phrase “ do you remember-------“ which leads to much reminiscing. They hope to be able to attend next year’s celebration and plan to rejoin the Club when they return to Adelaide permanently.

There is no doubt the Club has created many firm friendships and great memories over the years that we will all cherish for the rest of our lives.

May that continue.

Peter Holland

The 2012 Annual Awards Night and Dinner Dance

What an evening!!! How much fun!!! Yes I’m talking about the annual awards night that has returned to the winter month of July to try to avoid conflicting with the busy xmas period. Once again we were delighted with those dulcet “Barry White’ tones from none other than Peter Clarke (MC). Peter entertained the audience with not one but several tunes that made our paid entertainer Linda, start to worry about her future in the business. The attendance was well above that expected which proves everyone preferred an alternate date for such an important event for the JDCSA. Congratulations to the recipients of the various awards, presented on the night. Rick Luff, Club Person of the Year; Dave Bicknell, Jaguaritis Editors Award; Noel and Carmel Trew; Presidents Award; Special mention was made to the Club Inspectors, Don Evans, Evan Spartalis, Onslow Billinghurst and Geoff Mockford; Webmaster, Tom Herraman and our youngest new member, Scott Adamson.

The Cat’s Giggle

A teacher at a school for blind kids is taking his school's soccer team to an "away game". They stop for a rest break, and to let the kids work off some energy with a little impromptu practice in a nearby pasture. The teacher is sitting in a nearby diner, explaining to another patron how it is that blind kids can play soccer.

"We made a special ball, with a bell in it, so the kids can keep track of where the ball is and what it's doing by listening for it. They're pretty good at it too."

"Very clever!" remarks the other patron.

Just then they are interrupted as another patron, who is looking out the window, says, "Hey! Are you the guy with those damn blind kids from the bus?"

"Yes," says the teacher, stung by the way "his" kids are being referred to, "what about it? You got something against blind kids?"

"Nothing, ordinarily," says the guy, still scowling out the window, "but you better get them rounded up quick! They're kicking the hell out of my best milk cow!"

There was once a man who was in a bar, terribly drunk. The bartender noticed this, and when he asked for another beer, the bartender politely told him that he was too drunk to be served another drink.

The man leaves. He walks in the side door and asks the bartender for a beer. A little frustrated, the bartender repeats the answer he said before. The man leaves. He then comes in the other side door, walks to the bartender and asks for a beer. The bartender is annoyed, and tells the man he is too drunk and to get a ride home and leave his bar.

He leaves. He then comes in the BACK door, comes the bartender, and before he can say a word, the bartender explodes at him. "I told you already, you are way to drunk, you cannot have another beer! Get out of my bar!" Disgruntled, the man looks at the bartender and asks, "Man, how many bars do you work at?"

Got a joke? Send it to the editors and we’ll put it in the CM
