F124 .44wcf Remington Model 14 1/2 Slide-Action Rifle R 6500.00
At the outbreak of the First World War, few military aircraft were armed. As a
result a variety of weapons were issued to airmen during the early part of the
war. This American Remington pump-action rifle was one of 4000 purchased by
the British Admiralty to address a shortage of service rifles, many of which had
been transferred to the Army. The original intention was to equip various small
naval craft, but a number of these rifles were passed to the Royal Naval Air
Service as aircraft armament, hence the British Broad Arrow ownership stamp to
the side of the receiver. The 22.5" (57cm) round tapered barrel has a good bore
and is fitted with a plain front blade sight and an interesting rear sight adjustable
for range. There are a few small cracks in the stock where it meets the rear of
the action which should be attended to. Otherwise in good original condition.

seemingly glued, needs some cosmetic filling.
