Dear Graduates and Families,

Today’s Commencement ceremony marks the end of an extraordinary journey for our students at Columbia GSAPP. Each student has worked incredibly hard to get here and spent endless hours thinking about the future of the built environment and finding new ways to address the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. Among your peers and with our faculty, each of you has found ways to balance a rigorous curriculum with experimentation and exploration— sharpening your critical and creative mind and developing new skills in pursuit of your own path.

I would especially like to thank our students’ families and friends for your unwavering support and commitment, and for joining us in today’s celebration. To our graduates, thank you for sharing your curiosity, intelligence, talent, and dedication with all of us at GSAPP. You are the leaders who will inspire new directions for the field as a whole and help shape new possibilities to confront the unprecedented challenges and opportunities of tomorrow.

While today is your final day as a GSAPP student, I hope your relationship with Columbia will be lifelong. We look forward to sharing in all of your accomplishments and challenges, and being a home to return to throughout your continued growth.

Congratulations and best wishes,

Amale AndraosDean

We live in a time of uncertainty and change. Meeting its unprece-dented challenges will be an urgent imperative for architecture in the coming years—but this moment might also inspire us to recognize and fulfill new potentials for a more equitable, sustainable, and creative world.

At the heart of many of today’s challenges and opportunities are the disciplines and practices of the built environment—all of which are represented at Columbia GSAPP and which are inspiring new directions for their own disciplines and for the field as a whole.

In partnership with the University, our School has embarked on the most ambitious campaign in its history, marshalling all of its resources to nurture the bold thinkers, original designers, and engaged idea- makers of the next generation. Join us as we commit to design, create, engage, and build on our capacities for the future by supporting GSAPP with a gift today!

Supporting Core Excellence: Student Financial Aid

GSAPP has launched the Core Excellence Scholarship Challenge. Through this challenge, all newly created endowments or new gifts made to existing endowed funds in support of financial aid will be matched—dollar for dollar—by GSAPP, through discretionary funds made available by Dean Andraos. The challenge will match up to $2,000,000 in new endowments in support of financial aid. Scholarships may be designated to a specific program or within mutually agreed upon parameters.
