Ans-The two islands of coastal plains are- 1. Andaman and Nicobar islands-It is a group of 300 islands in the bay of

Bengal. Port blair is the capital of Andaman and Nicobar islands.

2Lakshadweep islands-The smallest union territory of India .It is a group of 36 islands. Kavaratti is the capital of Lakshadweep islands.

Ans-The western coastal plain is divided into three parts and the eastern coastal plain is divided into two parts. 5.Which states are the parts of Indian coastal plains? Ans-Gujarat,Maharashtra,Karnataka,kerala,goa,westbengal,odisha,Andhra Pradesh,tamilnadu and puducherry. 6.What is the importance of Vishakhapatnam? Ans-It is the most important seaport of eastern coastal plain.It has a ship building yard. 7.What is a lagoon?How are lagoons formed? Ans-A lake of sea water separated from sea by sand along the coast is called a lagoon. Lagoons are formed by cutting of sand bars. Lesson-7 Soil and agriculture 1.How is soil formed? Ans-Soil is formed by breaking up of rocks. 2.How many types of soil are found in our country?Name them. Ans-Six 1Alluvial2Desert r Sandy3Red4Laterite5Mountain6Black 3.Where is alluvial soil founf? Ans-In the northern plains and the coastal plains. 4.What is soil erosion?How can we prevsenst it? Ans-Sometimes rain,river and wind carry away the top layer of soil.this is called soil erosion. 1.More plants should be grown to hold the soil together. 2.Cutting down of trees should be checked.

Ans-After the Independence,our country has made a great revolution in the production of crops.This great revolution is called green revolution. Lesson-8 -Forest and Animals. 1. Describe the Chipko movement.Ans-In 1973,people on Mandal village in the chamoli district of Uttarakhand prevented the cutting down of tees by hugging them.This was called the chipko movement. 2.For every child a tree’ write about this programme. Ans-For every child a tree is another programme in which children are encouraged to plant trees and look after them. 3.Name the animls found in Himalayan forests. Ans-Leopard,elephant,tiger,bear and wild buffalo. 4.Where in India are evergreen forests found? Ans-Evergreen forests are found on the slopes of the western ghats and on the northern hills. 5.How are forests useful for us? Ans-We get timber,firewood,lac,gum,herbs,etc.Forests increase rainfall,control floods and prevent soil erosion.Many animals live in these forests and valuable plants are also found. 6.Which plants are found in thorny forests? Ans-Keekar.babool,cactus,wild palm,prickly pear,bushes,and shrubs. Lesson-9OUR WATER RESOURCES 1.Write short notes on usefulness of canals. Ans-Canals are made to carry a river water to distant places.Canals are used mainly for irrigation. 2.Name the sources of irrigation in India. Ans-wells,tuewells,tanks and canals are the sources of irrigation in India. 3.What are the soures of drinking water in villages. Ans-In villages,people use wells and handpumps. 4.From which source do we get water? Ans-We get water from many sources.They are natural and artificial. 5.Dams are called Multipurpose project”Why? Ans-Dams help us in many ways,hence,they are called multipurpose projects. 6.Name the multipurpose projects of Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.
