Wednesdays are wonderful at
CFUMC! Coming up this month, we are
having two special Wednesday Night

International, as well as sharing how you
can get involved. For more information,
please visit the website for Honduras
Outreach International, http://hoi.org/,
and please come for this Mission Semi-
nar on Wednesday, February 3rd at
6:30pm at the Connection.

CFUMC was chosen as the January Habersham Chamber of Commerce Mem-
ber of the Month! Representatives from the chamber visited on Tuesday, January 5th to
present our certificate and put a sign in our front yard. Hopefully you have had a
chance to see our sign, and tune in to Chamber Chat, posted to our Facebook Page, to
hear Pastor Brian discuss with Chamber
President, Dr. Judy Taylor, about the many
activities and community ministries at
CFUMC. Thank you, CFUMC, for your sup-
port and enthusiasm in our community!
The United Methodist Men are excited about their upcoming Valentine Dinner!
This annual event will take place on Thursday, February 4th at Habersham EMC.
Crossroads Café will cater a sit down dinner, and there will be entertainment, door
prizes, and more! This event is a ―must attend‖ each year! The reservation deadline has
passed, but for more information, contact any United Methodist member.
Congrats to the January Member of the Month, CFUMC!

Please welcome these people into our church family!

Youth and Children’s Ministries Our children's ministry is back into the swing of things
with Sunday School and our Wednesday night Faith Quest program.
If your children haven't been to either of these activities, come check
us out! We have great volunteers that are helping with the children,
and the children have a fun time while learning about the Bible. If
you are interested in volunteering with Sunday School or Faith Quest,
please contact Brian Butcher, [email protected].
Children, mark your calendars for Vacation Bible School, June
20-23rd! We hope you will make plans to be there!

gan confirmation classes at the end of January! Confirmation classes
are meeting in the Connection at 10:00am during the Sunday School
hour. Brian Butcher is teaching the class. If your student wants to be
confirmed, please contact Brian Butcher and have your students at-
tend class as regularly as possible. Conformation students, please also
keep April 8th-10th available for the Confirmation Retreat at Lake
Junaluska.
Coming up in February, we will have a Super Bowl party
on Sunday, February 7th at 6:30pm at the Connection! We will not

love. We will have a Valentine exchange and party on Thursday, February 11th. February is also dental

SERVE We lend a hand in our community! Flower Calendar Update: Altar flowers
are provided each Sunday by members and
friends of the church, usually in honor or in
memory of a loved one or to celebrate a spe-
cial occasion. The ―Flower Calendar,‖ which is kept in
the Church Office, still has many available 2016 dates:
March 20th, April 10th, April 17th, May 17th, May
24th, June 28th, July 10th, July 24th, August 14th, Au-
gust 21st, Sept. 18th, Sept. 25th, Oct. 16th, Oct. 23rd,
and Nov. 27th. Please contact Katrina Staples,
[email protected], if you are interested
in providing flowers for any of the open dates.
Acolytes Needed: Are any children interested in serving
as an Acolyte on Sunday Mornings? Acolytes for both
services are needed. To sign up, please contact Sherrie
Fry, Acolyte Coordinator, or drop your name and num-
ber in the offering plate on Sunday mornings.
Nursing Home Visitation: Join us at the
Habersham WEST Nursing Home at 6:00pm monthly
on the third Monday night (February 15th) and the
Habersham EAST Nursing Home at 6:15pm monthly
on the fourth Monday night (February 22nd) for sing-
ing and fellowship with a sweet group of folks. For
more information, please contact Sandy Shell or call
the Church Office, 706-754-2677.
Prayer Gatherings Tuesday Morning Prayer: Our Prayer Group
has a lovely room in The Connection Ministry
Center, C-17, and our group meets every Tuesday at
9:30-10:30am. If you have thought about joining our
prayer group, we would love to have you on Tuesday
mornings at The Connection. God loves a praying
church!
The Prayer Ministry would like to thank you for
all the prayer requests you give us weekly. We feel
honored to be able to pray for all the congregation's
needs. It would help us so much if you could please put
the address of the person on your prayer request. This
way, we can send them a prayer card. Thank you!
Skeins of Love Prayer Shawl Ministry: If you knit or
crochet, or would like to learn, you are invited to The
Connection, room C-11, at 10:00am on Thursdays to
make prayer shawls. All skill levels are welcome, and
supplies are available. If you would like to request a
shawl to comfort or celebrate someone you know,
please call the Church Office.
Meals On Wheels: Our church has
delivered meals for one week each month for
30+ years, and we are the only church in
Habersham to make this commitment each
month. A big thanks to our January drivers, Charles
and Gail Burke! Our February drivers are unknown at
the present time. If you would like to help, please con-
tact Elizabeth Pratt.
We hope to build our driver base so that sev-
eral teams may share in one week's deliveries. If you
feel you might be interested, please contact the Church
Office, 706-754-2677, or Elizabeth Pratt, CFUMC
Meals on Wheels Coordinator, 706- 754-1574.
Stephen Ministry: Stephen Min-
istry is grounded in Jesus’ command to
love one another. Through one-to-one car-
ing and confidential relationships, those who are hurt-
ing receive the love and care they need to support
them. This month, our Stephen Ministers will meet on
Monday, February 1st at 6:00pm in the Connection
Ministry Center, room C-16.
For more information or a confidential refer-
ral to a Stephen Minister, please call Stephen Ministry
Team Leader, Ron Waters, or the Church Office.

Food 2 Kids Update Our Connectional ministry is going strong! Our numbers keep increasing and now we are providing
weekend meals to 184 students! The United Methodist congregations in our county come together each
Thursday morning to pack the food bags assembly line style, at Ebenezer UMC in Hollywood at 9:00am.
Deliveries are then made on Fridays, and the churches take turns with this responsibility on a monthly ba-
sis. Our own CFUMC will deliver in February. February 5th is covered. Two teams of two are still
needed on Feb. 12th, three teams on Feb. 19th, and two teams on Feb. 26th. We ask that our drivers sign-
up ahead of time and you may do that by contacting Jennifer Boydstun in the Church Office. Thank you
for your continued support, sharing some food love with the hungry schoolchildren of our county.
A Great Year for CommUnity Thrift! 2015 was another amazing year! We have much to celebrate! In December we were able to give
$2850 to the CFUMC Building Fund, $400 to Sharing & Caring, $850 to Habitat for Humanity, $300 to
CASA, and $100 to each of the 13 county schools counselors to help take care of student needs. That
brought our 2015 giving total to the community up to $42,050!
We are also celebrating the new volunteers who have come aboard to run the store on Saturdays. A
shout out to the Upper Room Sunday School Class, Becky Turpen, Calvin & Mendy Huff, Teresa Dean
and Dianne Gunn, Marcia Martin, Bobbie Martin and June Givan, who cover Saturdays on a regular basis
now by taking turns every other month. We appreciate as well, our many faithful volunteers who come
weekly (and more!) to keep the store running smoothly. Many hands do make light work! Through your
prayers, donations, volunteer hours, etc., our CommUnity Thrift Store is able to live into its guiding scrip-
ture, “Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people…” (Galatians 6:10). Thank you for
your continued support of the CommUnity Thrift Store!

GROW Learn with us on Wonderful Wednesdays!
Lay Servant Ministry Class Update The United Methodist Church grows as its members ―become‖ more in Christ. The Lay Servant Minis-
tries (LSM) program is an excellent process for assisting members to ―become‖. We all ―become‖ at different
rates and in different ways. The following are some of the LSM courses (taught by pastors and certified LSM
instructors) that can assist individuals and congregations in developing the ―become‖ joy in Christ.
1. Basic Course: foundational to all other courses: spiritual gifts, leadership development, etc. There is still
room to register for the upcoming Basic Course, Saturdays April 2nd and 9th, 9am-3pm at Gainesville
First UMC. There is a $40 registration fee, which includes the course and a light lunch. To register, stop
by the Church Office. This course is required prior to attending any advanced LSM course.
2. United Methodist Heritage: gifts of theology; witness and organization of the UMC; history and distinc-
tive emphases needed in contemporary society, etc.
3. Evangelism: John Wesley’s practices in relational evangelism, sharing and welcoming others into the
faith community through evangelism, etc.
4. United Methodist Polity: ―why the UMC does the things it does‖ (organization and administration).
5. Accountable Discipleship: Importance of scripture as divine revelation, Wesleyan understanding of
Grace, etc.
6. Leading in Worship: Conducting individual, group and congregational prayer.
7. Leading in Prayer: Growing in confidence and skill in public and personal prayer.
8. Dancing with Words: Discovering storytelling style, presentation techniques, etc.
9. Lay Pastoral Care Giving: Improving care-giving skills; life span and dynamics of contemporary life,
etc.
10. Growing Spiritually through Daily Disciplines: Guide in discerning God’s direction, practicing daily
disciplines and reaching out in love.

Conference Housing and Homeless Council Offering: Sunday, February 28th
As a member of the North Georgia Conference Housing & Homeless Council, I’d like to

capital or operational funds for organizations that provide housing and support services in
communities across our North Georgia Conference. Your contributions are dispersed with
much care. Site visits are made by Council members to each grant applicant and recommenda-
tions are brought before the Council and voted upon. For the Fall 2015 awards cycle, $68,811
was disbursed as 13 capital grants and 19 operational grants. Our donations each February
make this possible. Thank you in advance for your generous and compassionate response to
help our neighbors in need.

The Mailbox Dear Church Family, on behalf of Camp Evergreen and our family, we'd like to thank you for your tremendous support of our min-
istry. We were humbled and blessed to be the recipients of the Christmas Eve service special offering. So many of you have also
stepped up personally to send an underprivileged child to camp or to support our general operations. You've invited us to speak in
your classes and to your groups; you've so generously offered your time, donated much needed items, and have remembered us
faithfully in your prayers. We know that through your support, God already has and will continue to impact lives through the
Camp Evergreen ministry.
Katie and Toby Grady
To the prayer warriors at Clarkesville UMC, I just want you to know that I think of you every day (or should I say, night). Almost
5 years ago, I was hospitalized with a rare form of pneumonia and teetered between life and death for several weeks. During that
time, you sent a Sweet Sleep pillowcase to me and promised to pray for me. I thank you so much for standing in the gap for me
and my family when we were too weak and sick to stand for ourselves. I still have my pillowcase and use it always. It reminds me
of how powerful our God is and how precious the prayers of His people are. Again, thank you!

Dear Friends in Christ, for many the holidays of Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are days where family members and
close friends reminisce about happy memories of years gone by while savoring fellowship, food and football. It is hard for me to
imagine how children in our care have had such a different life experience when it comes to close family and those special times
during the holidays. We are especially grateful to donors like you who through your gift make it possible for Murphy-Harpst Chil-
dren’s Centers to deliver extraordinary clinical care. But in addition to that, you make it possible for us to offer life experiences
like the excitement of Christmas morning where presents, hot chocolate and fellowship with the other children and staff (now their
family) makes the holidays a positive, memorable day.
Charles Troutman, Chief Executive Offer, Murphy-Harpst Children’s Centers
Your gift in support of the Habersham County Food 2 Kids Program helps to provide needed weekend meals to some of our
county’s most vulnerable children. Many thanks for your generosity.
Susan Dodson, Food Bank of North Georgia
I would like to thank you for your recent gift to Circle of Hope. Many women and children have the opportunity to be safe through
your act of generosity. It is through this support that we are able to continue our mission to support, empower and bring hope to
those affected by domestic violence.

“The Back Page” The Pastor’s Report
Our church received 30 new full professing members in 2015! We also added
members to our preparatory rolls and constituency rolls. Thank you for ―reaching up and reach-
ing and out.‖
One of our new members is Dr. Steve Wilks who has been very active with Honduras
Outreach International for many years. He will be giving a special presentation on Wednesday,
February 3rd, in The Connection at 6:30 pm. Please join us for this multi-media presentation.
Ash Wednesday is February 10th. At 6:30 pm we will gather in our Sanctuary for won-
derful worship, including a message by Brian Butcher. This will be a great service and the
whole family is invited. There will be a nursery available.
Our Sunday School continues to grow and set new high attendance marks. Worship atten-
dance has been up as well. For these things we give God the glory! These continue to be excit-
ing and growing times at Clarkesville First United Methodist Church and it is a joy to be your
pastor.
Love in Christ,
Rev. Brian T. Butler, Pastor
