2 Installation Overview

Clarity FSR provides a comprehensive solution to an organization’s external reportingrequirements by automating the creation of the annual report, 10K, 10Q, board book, plusany other statutory or regulatory filing.

FSR enables an administrator to create a report, and then delegate the work to end users andmonitor their progress prior to publishing the final report. Clarity FSR leverages the powerof OLAP and relational databases.

Note: For support information on third party OLAP and relational database serverapplications, such as Hyperion Essbase and Microsoft SQL Server, please consult thedocumentation provided by the software manufacturer. FSR documentation does not detailaspects of these components beyond the minimal definitions required to perform specificFSR configuration tasks.

This document is intended to help guide you through the installation and configuration ofClarity FSR. It contains an overview of the high-level architecture, prerequisites, andinstallation steps. It is organized in sequential order, and therefore each section should beread and followed in succession to ensure that the Clarity FSR installation is a successfulone.

Clarity FSR Network TopologyEnd users use the FSR client interface to work with reports and access financial data fromvarious sources. The FSR client communicates with data sources (ex. relational or Excelfiles) via the FSR Database Server. OLAP data can be retrieved via the FSR Database, ordirectly from an OLAP database environment.

Clarity FSR uses server processes in order to co-ordinate communication from an end userclient to the database environment. Other components include administrator and end userclient machines, and existing ERP systems.

Note: There is no “write-back” from the Database Server to the data source.

The following illustrates Clarity FSR’s high-level technical architecture:

2  INSTALLATION OVERVIEW

For a relational database environment, the Web Service can optionally be used to provide aSystem Account to the FSR client for authentication. This is useful when you do not want togive client accounts direct access to the database.

Clarity FSR Installation ProcessThe Clarity FSR installation CD provides you with all of the required elements tosuccessfully install and implement the FSR solution. Clarity FSR consists of a databaseserver and at least one client installation.

The following installations compose the Clarity FSR software solution:

• FSR Database Server installation

• FSR Client installation

• Optional: Web Service installation
