FITNESS AND FUNFor all fitness participants, Fitness and Fun is your voice. This activity committee meets 3 times and orga-nizes 2 social events a year. The meetings are your time to share ideas, thoughts, suggestions and/or concerns. The next meeting is Thursday October 8 at 10:45 am, everyone is welcome.

SCRABBLEScrabble is a good way to keep your mind and memory active. We meet Fridays at 1:00 pm.

QUILTERSCome and join the Century House Quilters any Monday, Tuesday or Thursday morning. New quilters are most welcome, you will learn how to piece and hand quilt using our equipment and materials. In fact, quilters of all abilities are welcome, and machines, fabric, thread, needles and batting are supplied from the generous donations we have received over the years. Join a fun group of women, make friends and create beauti-ful quilts and quilted items to raise money for Century House activities.

VOLUNTEER CORNERART / PAINTING CLASS SUPPORTVolunteer needed to help a participant with set up and take down tasks of painting equipment and periodically help with other tasks during class. Volunteer is welcome to participate in the class when not needed by the partici-pant at no expense to themselves, however is responsible for their own art supplies.

CONNECTION’S CAFÉCashiers and Kitchen Prep Volunteers needed! Join this very busy, fun team that provides such a valuable service to Century House! Who doesn’t enjoy the delicious smells of home cooked meals and baking. Must be physically able to stand for long periods of time, have good kitchen skills, such as peeling potatoes, making sandwiches, cut-ting fruit in a timely manner.

Century House has free confidential programs for all people 50+ in the New Westminster area (mem-bership not required). ~ Life transitions and finding new meaning~ Bereavement and loss~ Loneliness~ Declining health~ Depression and anxiety~ Family matters 1) VITAL CONNECTIONSFamily Services of Greater Vancouver has committed to funding the Vital Connections Counselling program with a counsellor in place for the program 2 days a week. We are excited to say that the Vital Connections Counsellor position has been filled and we are hoping to resume service on September 8. Starting Septem-ber 8, new referrals are welcome to leave their name and contact number on the Vital Connections voice-mail (604.519.1064 ext. 2) and the new counsellor will call back as soon as possible.

2) SENIOR PEER COUNSELLINGTrained senior volunteers provide one-to-one sup-port. Senior Peer Counsellors will stand at your side when you are feeling disheartened or dispir-ited. You can meet at Century House or your home.

WWII CAFE Century House and the New Westminster Museum and Archives are once again putting on a WWII Café at the An-vil Centre in the fall 2015. We are looking for seniors who have had a WWII experience that they could share with the community through the telling of their story in a hu-man library format. Training would be provided. Some of these experiences could be Holocaust survivor, veteran, Japanese internment camp, refugee, air raid patrol, war effort factory worker, or other experiences. If you are in-terested in participating, please leave your name at the Century House office or at the museum.

SLUGGERS RESULTSCongratulations to the Moody Blues on an outstand-ing 2015 season. The team represented Century House very well, winning most of their games and finishing first in regular season league play. They also won the Archie Patterson Memorial Tournament in Coquitlam as well as our very own Senior Sluggers Tournament for the third time in the past four years. Congratulations also to the Glen Pine Gems for finishing as runners up in the Slug-gers Tournament to the Blues as well as the North Shore Dalton’s Truckers for winning the competitive division of the Senior Sluggers tournament, defeating the Port Co-quitlam Outlaws in the final.

GETTING TO KNOW DEMENTIA This introductory session reviews information about Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, and the chal-lenges of receiving a diagnosis. Participants will learn about the different types of support available through-out the dementia journey, and how to begin planning for the future.
