EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, ANNIE CUBBERLY

Early AchieversWe were just getting started by the end of June 2013, but 170 child care providers stepped up and enrolled in early achievers to demonstrate and improve the quality of their care by participating in technical assistance, professional development, assessment and evaluation. We are documenting significant quality improvements across the region. Kudos to our Early Achievers!

Raising A Reader1,184 children participated at 27 sites in Grays Harbor, Lewis, Mason and Thurston counties. Our evaluations demonstrate that children asked their parents to read to them more frequently and parents responded by increasing the amount of time they spend reading with their children. Parents engaged in more dialogue with their children increasing language and concept development that directly results in children being more prepared for learning to read and kindergarten success.

Army Child Care in Your Neighborhood

Child care providers serving 232 families received quality and financial support in Thurston County.• $500,750 was spent to enhance quality, with $300,450 on

indoor/outdoor environments, $100,150 on training and curriculum, and $100,150 on management.

• 100 families with 150 children received enhanced referals and financial assistance for military child care.

“Because of my work with Early Achievers I feel organized, prepared and ready to teach every day! Not that I wasn’t before, but I think I am better now, than I was a year ago. I am eager to get busy making improvement plans with my Coach! I truly appreciate all the hard work you have put in to see to it I put my best foot forward!” - Debra Walters, Family Child Care provider and Early Achiever

This has been a momentous year for child care and early learning in Washington State and at Child Care Action Council! We achieved accreditation from Child Care Aware of America. This was no small task; in fact, we are the only accredited Resource and Referral agency on the west coast to achieve this honor! Opportunity knocked and we answered by expanding our services to include Clallam, Jefferson and Kitsap Counties, adding the title of Child Care Aware of the Olympic Peninsula. When the Department of Early Learning won the Early Learning Grant to improve child care quality in our state, CCAC went to work. We started by recruiting child care providers and providing technical assistance to improve child care quality as a part of Early Achievers, Washington’s quality rating and improvement system. We nearly doubled our staff and expanded our own infrastructure and internal controls to produce strong outcomes and ensure accountability of all of our services. CCAC continues to make an impact on children and families by delivering quality programs designed to nurture the social, emotional, physical, and intellectual growth of young children in the communities where they are growing up. Our professional development program has also grown and expanded to provide an extensive array of classes and conferences. We actively advocate for policies that support early learning opportunities both independently and in collaboration with our many community partners. Finally, we continue to work on having a diverse funding strategy, prioritizing an increase in earned income and individual support, and reducing our reliance on government/public funding. Our Board of Directors gave CCAC excellent guidance and support, and encourages us to continue growing, developing and delivering the excellent services. The past year has been full of incredible progress; we look forward to a very productive 2014 for children, families, providers, staff and Board! We are deeply grateful to our donors who are investing in a bright future for children.

YMy children are both in child care so I know how critical quality child care is. Not just for my kids, but for all kids. It is an honor to serve on a board that is actively engaged in improving the quality of child care in so many ways.

FINANCIAL REPORT I 2012-2013

At CCAC, we make every penny count! The Child Care Action Council works to ensure that all of our programs improve the quality of delivery and result in changes to the lives of those who participate. We do this by collecting feedback from participants and measuring outcomes when possible through a variety of ongoing evaluation activities.

Because of CCAC’s efforts for quality and accountability, we’ve achieved what no other resource and referral agency on the west coast has - national accreditation from Child Care Aware of America.
