    City of Wooster

    The City of Wooster will be holding a citywide meeng on Tuesday, January 29th from

    6:30-9 pm at the Red Cross Mul-Purpose Room located at 244 West South Street in

    Wooster. The purpose of the meeng will be to recap all that happened at the four ward meeng

    in October, and inform cizens of the decision that came from those meengs to present to counca .5% increase in the earned income tax to generate new revenue to sustain city services and fund

    capital improvement projects.

    The citywide meeng will be in the same format as the ward meengs, with a presentaon showi

    the facts as they currently are, then city ocials will break o into groups, ensuring that everyone

    voices can be heard. The mayor will oat amongst each group, answering quesons that are

    specically addressed to him.

    The city has made several cuts to oset losses in revenue, including the reducon of sta by more

    than 30 employees, equaling over $2 million. Despite these cuts, new revenue is needed to maint

    the current level of services that cizens of Wooster are accustomed to. The need for new revenu

    is the result of lost city revenue due to overall state cuts, the loss of the tangible personal propert

    tax and the loss of the estate tax.

    Possible .5% Earned Income Tax Increase

    Approximately .25% of new revenue will go towards retaining services

    Approximately .25% of new revenue will go towards capital improvement projects

    New earned income tax rate would be 1.5% - still amongst the lowest in Northeast Ohio

    This issue will be voted on by Wooster City council in December 2012

    to be placed on the May 2013 ballot.

    The .5% increase would cost someone earning

    $50,000 per year an addional $20.83 per month
