Free Tax Services
Another tax season is fast approaching. The Romulus Senior Center will provide free tax services through
AARP and the help of our City Treasurer. If you are 60 or older, handicapped or low income individuals, please have your paper work ready in order to sign up for your
tax appointment. No walk-ins please. Call the Senior Center now to schedule your appointment.
Participants in the program are asked to provide:
Copy of last year’s
income tax return
W-2 forms if you
earned a salary
Unemployment compensation statements
SSA-1099 form if you
were paid Social Security benefits
All 1099 forms showing
interest of dividends
1099R form from the payer of your pension or annuity
All forms indicating Federal income tax paid
Dependent care
provider information (name, employer ID, SSN)
All receipts or canceled
checks if itemizing deductions
Social Security cards or official documentation for yourself and all dependents
Photo ID

Services Participants:
If you are on the chore service’s list, please have salt by your
front door. We do not provide or purchase salt. When our
workers come to shovel your snow, they will put salt down if you have some at your front
door. Please be patient with us, we will make our way to
everyone in a timely manner. Do not try to go outside or
do it yourself. If you need your snow shoveled, please call so
we can put you on the list.

SPRING-SPRING-SPRING Winter is on its way out, and summer is almost here. We are looking forward to all the wonderful programs and fun events
going on at the Senior Center. Stop by and pick up the Communicator—it will be ready by the fourth week of every month so you can plan accordingly. We
are excited to roll out our new classes on Pinterest, wellness and healthy eating tips. It will all start in the month of April, so stay tuned. We have new
trips to Turkeyville, ride the River Queen on the Au Sable River and a tour of Detroit with a meal at the Whitney. Don’t forget to sign up for our exciting
Lucky Bunny Luncheon with the Leprechaun on March 16th. Join us for great food, gifts, raffles, music and much more.

Message from Mayor Burcroff March brings hope for warmer weather and time with family. I wish you a
happy St. Patrick’s Day, Happy Easter and first day of spring.
On March 12th I am hosting the Mayors’ Ball Fundraiser with the Mayor of Belleville, Kerreen Conley, to benefit the Romulus and Belleville Boys and
Girls Clubs. If you’d like to buy tickets or make a donation, please come visit my office.
As the weather is starting to break, now is your opportunity to get over to the Senior Center and take advantage of their outings and programs. I’m looking forward to seeing you all at the “Lucky Bunny” Luncheon on the 16th and at the St. Patrick’s-themed Party benefitting a long time employee in need at
the Progressive Hall on the 19th.

Volunteers Needed
The Senior Center is looking for volunteers to pack food each morning from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. for the Meals on Wheels Program. Please call if you are interested.
Need Food?
Low income residents are eligible for free commodities each month. A variety of food is provided by the Emergency Food Assistance
Program.
Distribution: Thursday, March 17th at 9:30 a.m.

2 T. olive oil
3 T. all-purpose flour
2 lbs. beef chuck, cut into 1 1/2-inch cubes
1 lb. carrots, peeled and cut into 1-inch chunks
6 large potatoes, peeled and cut into large chunks
1 white onion, cut into large chunks
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 c. beef broth
1 (6 oz) can tomato paste
1 (12 fl. oz.) can or bottle of irish stout beer (ex. Guiness)
1 T. cold water
1 T. cornstarch
Recipe Exchange: Easy Irish Beef Stew
1. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Toss beef cubes with flour to coat, then fry in the hot oil until browned.
2. Place carrots, potatoes, onion and garlic in a large slow cooker. Place meat on top of vegetables.
3. Mix together beef broth and tomato paste and pour into the slow cooker along with the beer.
4. Cover and cook on high for 6 hours, or on low for 8 hours. During the last hour before serving, dissolve the cornstarch in cold water and then stir into the broth. Simmer on the high setting for a few minutes to thicken.
