Transaction Processing Systems (TPS) represents computer-based versions of manual transactions in an organization. General requirements: a. Integrates Database Management Systems  b. Facilitates network setup and multi-user access c. Incorporates system and data maintenance features d. Incorporates back-up, recovery and archiving features e. Produces complete reports f. Integrates data entry validation and error trapping g. Implements data and system security measures Types of Transaction Processing Systems (TPS): 1. Payroll System (with Human Resource Management System) -  A system desig ned to compute for the wage or salary of an employee in an organization Minimum Requirements : There are at least 30 existing employees There’s an existing manual payroll and time keeping system Produces pay slip and payroll reports There’s an existing tables for SSS, Tax, etc. Produces reports to other agencies such as BIR, SSS, PAG-IBIG  Acceptable te st data – at lea st 30 employ ees 2. 3. Library System - A system designed to perform the process involved in acquisition, cataloguing,and circulation of books including inventory maintenance of the Library resources.Minimum Requirements:

• There are at least 2,000 books (as per CHED requirement)

• There are at least 200 borrowers

• Implements Library of Congress or Dewey Decimal System• Incorporates borrowing, returning, reservation, and cataloguing features

• Provisions for penalty

• Generates library and CHED (for schools only) reports

•  Acceptable test data - at least 50 titles; and at least 50 borrowers

4. Accounting System - A system designed to monitor the inflow and outflow of cash, goods, andservices in an organization.Minimum Requirements:

• Monitors accounts receivables and accounts payable

• Incorporates aging technique

• Posts transaction on journal

•Produces accounting reports

•  Acceptable test data – 30 accounts

5. Enrollment System - A system designed to perform the process involved in the schoolenrollment, class scheduling and grading.Minimum Requirements:

• There are at least 200 students

• There are at least 2 sections per year level (Grades 1-6, Year 1-4, etc.)

• Incorporates registration, assessment, payments

• Incorporates class scheduling/sectioning

• Checks pre-requisites and co-requisites

• Maintains tuition, fees

Encodes grades• Generates enrollment reports (grades, class list, registration form, etc.)

• Maintains students records

• Maintains faculty information

•  Acceptable test data – 50 students

6. Hotel Reservation and Billing System - A system designed to manage information aboutrooms, reservations, customers, and bills.Minimum Requirements:

• There are at least 20 rooms

• There are at least 100 customers records; and at least 10 customers daily transactions

• Maintains customers records

• Monitors room availability and assignment

• Incorporates check-in/out, reservation, cancellation features

• Generates and monitors customer bills and reports

• Maintains and monitors fees

•  Acceptable test data – 50 customers

7. Patient Information and Billing System - A system designed to perform process involved inadmitting, diagnosing, medication, and billing of patients.Minimum Requirements:

• There are at least 20 beds

• There are at least 50 patients in records; at least 10 patients accommodated daily

• Maintains patient medical records and physicians information

• Records medication, diagnosis, prognosis

• Generates and monitors of patient bills

• Maintains fees (room rates, medicines, services, laboratory fee, etc.)

•  Acceptable test data – 50 patientsMultimedia System – This software encapsulates the representation of various digital media – text,images, audio, video, graphics, animation, music, etc.Minimum Requirements:

• Incorporates at least 4 media (text, graphics, audio, video)

• Incorporates maintenance features• Uses database in storing information and media information

• Defines nature of data, purpose, source and users of data

• Incorporates searching, storing and printing functions

• Maintains and organizes category, topics and information

• Cites sources and copyright of materials utilized for the system

Computer-Aided Instruction – This software is designed to facilitate learning.Minimum Requirements:

• Incorporates multimedia features

• Contains drills and practices, tutorials, simulation (games is optional)

• Uses at least 3 methods of presenting the topics

• Focuses on specific target users/group• Incorporates maintenance of topics, users information and performance, multimedia

• Cites copyright, sources/bases of lessons/ topics

• Incorporates level of difficulty of lessons and test items

• Incorporates random generation of test items

• Produces test results/reports

• Provides immediate feedback of user performance

•  Acceptable testing data – 10 items per topic

•  Acceptable test data – at least 20 users

Web Applications – This software focuses on using the latest internet technologies to develop aninnovative and creative web applications.

Minimum Requirements:• Contains dynamic web pages

• Incorporates multimedia features

• Incorporates maintenance features

• Uses database in storing information

• Uses W3 standard conformance, portability, and user-friendly navigation

• Contains meta tags

• Must be uploaded to Internet Web server 

• Contains security features

Robotics or Control Systems  – This is the integration of computer software and industrial robots toaccomplish basic routine human activities.Minimum Requirements:

• PC-based or micro-controller based

• Performs basic routine task required in the performance of daily organization tasks

• Incorporates display and user-interface features

Software Engineering – This software is the establishment and use of sound engineeringprinciples in order to obtain economical software that is reliable and works efficiently onreal machines.

 Area of Focus:

• Paradigm of software engineering based on new approaches in programming

• Software engineering cost models

• Systems Software - Example: Operating System, Compilers, Interpreters, Utilities,etc.

•  The software must be built from bottom to top; Use of API is allowed except

ActiveX, etc
