Thebottom, top, door and sides of callinct shall be at least No. l8 gage sheel iron and double walled rvirh l I /2-inch air space. Joints shall be riveted, welded or made tig)rt by some equally effective means. Tire door shall beprovided with a three-point lock, and the door sill .shall be raised at least two inches above the bottotn of tirecabinet.

(2) Wooden cabinets constructed irr the following manner shall be deemed in compliance with (b). The botrom,sides and ttp shall be conslructed of an approved grade of plywood at least 1-inch in thickness, which shall notbreak down or delaminate under fire conditions. All joints shall be rabbetecl and shall be fastened in twodirections with flathead wood scre ws. Srtren more than one door is used, there shall be a rabbeted overlap ofnot less than l.inch. The employer failed to ensure that a cabinel used to store flammable matcrials mct the requirements ofthis standard. At the time of tlrr: flivision'.s inspection on December 15, 2009, Class I and Class 2 liquidswere stored in Molecular Science Building room #3426 (Noah's Ark) in a cabinet. The cabinet door u'asbroken, displaced, and corrld not be closed. The door lock was not fulrctional. Flammable srrbstancesstored in the cabinet included, brrt rvere not liurited to, L-2 dichloroethane, t-2 dichloroethane anhydrous,and isobutyraldehyde.

As of the Division's inspection on August 25,2009, the employer had not providerl training to laboratoryemployees regarding the hazardr,i and required additional protection when lvorking u'ith particularlyhazardous substances, including select carcinogens, reproductive toxins, and chemicals with a high degreeof acute toxicity, including, but not limited to, methl'lcne clrloride, benzeni, fbrmaldehyde, ethidiumbromide, and o.srniunr tetroxide.

The employer was previously cited on May 4, 2009 for a I'iolation of T8 CCR 5191(f)(4XA). llhepreviotts citation became final order on July l, 2009. The ernployer submitted proof of abatementexecuted on May L9,2009 by thr,r employer's Occupational Safety and Environ-mental Health N{anager.
