Technical Assistance CenterThe Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC) is available to all customers who need technical assistance with a Cisco product, technology, or solution. Two levels of support are available: the Cisco TAC Web Site and the Cisco TAC Escalation Center.
Cisco TAC inquiries are categorized according to the urgency of the issue:
• Priority level 4 (P4)—You need information or assistance concerning Cisco product capabilities, product installation, or basic product configuration.
• Priority level 3 (P3)—Your network performance is degraded. Network functionality is noticeably impaired, but most business operations continue.
• Priority level 2 (P2)—Your production network is severely degraded, affecting significant aspects of business operations. No workaround is available.
• Priority level 1 (P1)—Your production network is down, and a critical impact to business operations will occur if service is not restored quickly. No workaround is available.
The Cisco TAC resource that you choose is based on the priority of the problem and the conditions of service contracts, when applicable.
Cisco TAC Web Site
You can use the Cisco TAC Web Site to resolve P3 and P4 issues yourself, saving both cost and time. The site provides around-the-clock access to online tools, knowledge bases, and software. To access the Cisco TAC Web Site, go to this URL:

C H A P T E R 1
Getting StartedThe Cisco NI-1 DSLAM Equipment Module supports the provisioning of cross connections across Cisco 6000 series DSLAMs using first generation Network Interface cards (NI-1). The DSLAM platforms supported by this Equipment Module include the Cisco 6100 and 6130.
The Cisco 6100/6130 DSL access multiplexer (DSLAM) is an ATM cell switch that aggregates traffic from multiple subscriber ports to a single ATM WAN port. Its 32-slot multiport line-card architecture can support ADSL and SDSL technologies. For these DSLAMs, the NI-1 card acts as a central processor, a system controller, and it provides a network interface.
This Equipment Module communicates with the Cisco 6100/6130 DSLAM via the SNMP interface.
Note In order to configure the Cisco NI-1 DSLAM Equipment Module you must have installed it during the Cisco Provisioning Center Server and Client installation procedures. For more information on installing Cisco Provisioning Center, refer to the CPC Installation Guide.
Figure 1-1 is a conceptual diagram illustrating how Cisco Provisioning Center, the Cisco NI-1 DSLAM Equipment Module, and the Cisco 6100/6130 DSLAM integrate to form a powerful network provisioning solution.

Table 1-3 outlines the network interface cards, line cards, and CPEs supported by this Equipment Module.
Configuring Network Timeout The Cisco NI-1 DSLAM Equipment Module implements an overall timeout for service provisioning transactions. There are two environmental variables that define the Network Timeout. These are CCP_ACTIVATION_TIMEOUT (Default=120 seconds) and CCP_RESET_TIMEOUT (Default=300 seconds); they define the maximum interval (measured in seconds) allowed for each Service element activation and for the rollback of each Service element, respectively. The maximum interval must amount to the maximum time to elapse before the NIF times out. For example, if CCP_ACTIVATION_TIMEOUT=180, this allows the NIF three minutes to activate an item in a Transaction.

Uploading Fabric and ServicesThis chapter contains information on how to upload Cisco NI-1 DSLAM Equipment Module network elements into the Cisco Provisioning Center database through the Equipment Module.
The Cisco NI-1 DSLAM Equipment Module will upload the following fabric elements from your network:
• DSL physical ports
• WAN physical ports
• WAN subtending ports
• ATM logical ports
The Cisco NI-1 DSLAM Equipment Module will upload the following Service element from your network:
• ATM cross connections
Note The term upload does not refer to the creation of inter-network links because they are outside the scope of any single Equipment Module. See the section titled “Adding Inter-Network Links (Topology) Information” later in this chapter.
To stay synchronized, the Cisco Provisioning Center database must be continually updated, if changes are being made to the DSLAM outside of Cisco Provisioning Center. You must re-upload after any of the following scenarios:
• A new node has been added to the network.
• New hardware has been added to the DSLAM (e.g. cards).
• You need to recover from a failure situation (to synchronize the database with the network).
• Service elements have been manually configured on the same network devices that Cisco Provisioning Center is managing. This allows flexibility for setting up and repairing services.
Depending on the type of changes that have taken place on a DSLAM, you may need to upload the fabric and/or service elements for the node. Re-upload operations are the same as initial upload operations.
Fabric uploads should be performed when there are hardware modifications in the network. If services were configured outside of Cisco Provisioning Center, fabric and services upload should be performed. An upload of both fabric and services should be performed when a combination of hardware and configuration changes has been made to the network. Table 2-1 lists the available upload types:
2-1 Equipment Module Configuration Guide
Chapter 2 Uploading Fabric and ServicesInitial System Upload
Initial System UploadIn order to provision services, the Cisco Provisioning Center database must have detailed knowledge of the managed subnetworks. Using a procedure called upload, objects are created within the Cisco Provisioning Center database that represent objects of the managed network.
Cisco Provisioning Center supports the following types of upload:
• Given a network object, upload only the fabric elements for the nodes in that network.
• Given a network object, upload all fabric and Service elements for the nodes in that network.
• Given a node object, upload only the fabric elements for that node.
• Given a node object, upload all fabric and Service elements for that node.
The upload function takes precedence over any Transactions that are running at the time of upload. If the upload function makes a change back to the fabric which affects a running Transaction (such as deleting a logical port that the threader has decided to use), then this Transaction fails and must be restarted.
Network and node objects must be created in order to perform an upload.
Network Upload You can upload fabric and Service elements for nodes in a given network. To do this, you must first create the network and then create the nodes that exist in that network. To upload the fabric and Service elements for a network, complete the following steps:
Step 1 Navigate to networks > Cisco NI-1 DSLAM Equipment Module > Elements > Network.
The Content Area displays the Lister View for Network.
Step 2 In the Lister View, click the Get List button.
Optionally, use the field filters to narrow your selection before you click the Get List button.
Step 3 Check the box in the Select column next to the network element from which you want to upload.
Step 4 Click the Upload button on the Action Bar.
Step 5 Select an Upload Type from the pull-down menu in the Content Area.
Step 6 Click the Perform Upload button to initiate the upload.
The Content page tells you that the upload has started.
Step 7 To monitor the upload progress, click the hyperlink in the Content Area.

Chapter 2 Uploading Fabric and ServicesInitial System Upload
Note Cisco Provisioning Center does not provide a notification upon Upload completion in this screen.
Uploading a Node Object You can create node objects for any Cisco NI-1 DSLAM nodes in your network. A locking mechanism limits the number of concurrent transactions that provision any node to one transaction. This means that you cannot provision a node if it is currently being provisioned, or if the node is currently being uploaded.
To upload the fabric and Service elements for a node object, complete the following steps:
Step 1 Navigate to networks> Cisco NI-1 DSLAM Equipment Module> Elements> Node> Node Name.
Step 2 Click the Upload button on the Action bar.
Step 3 Select an Upload Type from the pull-down menu in the Content Area.
Step 4 Click the Perform Upload button to initiate the upload.
The Content page tells you that the upload has started.
Step 5 To monitor the upload progress, click the hyperlink in the Content Area.
Note Cisco Provisioning Center does not notify you upon Upload completion.
Viewing the Upload ProgressDuring an upload process, you can view the progress of the upload request. To view a log of the running upload process, complete the following steps:
Step 1 Navigate to administration > Monitoring > Uploads.
The Content area displays the Monitoring Upload Transactions Lister View. Initially, there are no transactions listed.
Step 2 Click the Start Monitoring button to start monitoring Upload Transactions.
Change the refresh interval time by keying in the number of seconds to refresh the screen.
Note Monitoring must be off if you want to change the refresh interval time.

Chapter 2 Uploading Fabric and ServicesAdding Inter-Network Links (Topology) Information
To view the log of a monitored upload Transaction, use the following procedure:
Step 1 In the Monitoring Upload Transaction Lister View, check the box in the Select column next to the Transaction that you want to operate on.
Note You can operate on only one Transaction at a time.
Step 2 Click the Log Info button in the Action Bar.
A snapshot of the upload Transaction Log displays.
Adding Inter-Network Links (Topology) Information After uploading new fabric and Service elements, you must add extra topology information that the upload function is unable to determine (because the information is not known to the node). Topology information or inter-network links are outside the scope of a single node or subnet manager and you must add this data manually through the Cisco Provisioning Center GUI or the FTI. Likewise, in a subtended configuration, you must add links from subtended to subtending nodes.
Adding Links Using the GUITo add links using the Cisco Provisioning Center GUI, complete the following steps:
Step 1 Navigate to networks > Standard Resource Model > Elements > Logical Link.
The Content Area displays the Link Lister.
Step 2 Click the Create button on the Action Bar.
A Logical Link Object View appears in the Content Area.
Step 3 Enter the required attribute values in the Logical Link Object View. For attribute values, refer to the CPC User’s Guide.
Step 4 Click the apply button directly above the Object View to create the link.

Subtending ConfigurationsOverviewThe subtending feature provides a mechanism to link a number of chassis onto one network trunk port. You can link up to seven Cisco 6100/6130 NI-1 DSLAM chassis through their WAN interfaces.
In a subtended configuration, each chassis is connected by its WAN interface to the STM module of the chassis above it in the subtending hierarchy, or, if it is at the top the hierarchy, to the network trunk.
Note For more information about the Cisco NI-1 DSLAM subtending feature, refer to the appropriate Cisco documentation.
Cisco Provisioning Center supports the creation of multiple ATM cross connections across subtended systems for Services created by various Service Applications. However, before Services can be created across subtended systems, you must create links from the hub chassis to its subtended chassis.
The upload function will only upload port information from each chassis. Links from one chassis to another must be created manually to form the appropriate subtended topology. You must create links with the following endpoints:
• subtending logical port (on the parent chassis),
• WAN logical port (on the subtended chassis).
Subtending configurations of DSLAMs are considered to be a transparent network by Cisco Provisioning Center.
TopologyThe tree topology connects the subtending chassis to two subtended chassis. A tree topology can be configured on a DS-3 interface. Figure 3-1 shows the tree topology.
3-1 Equipment Module Configuration Guide
Chapter 3 Subtending ConfigurationsTopology
Figure 3-1 Tree Topology
To build this tree topology refer to the following procedure:
Step 1 Create a network containing the three nodes. Refer to “Creating Networks” on page 1-5.
Step 2 Upload fabric and services for each node. Refer to “Uploading a Node Object” on page 2-3
Step 3 Create Inter-networking links from theCisco NI-1 DSLAM (1) to the Cisco NI-1 DSLAM that is one level up in the tree (3). See “Adding Inter-Network Links (Topology) Information” on page 2-4.
Step 4 Create a second link from Cisco NI-1 DSLAM (2) to DSLAM (3).
Step 5 Create an Inter-networking link from the top of the subtending tree to the ATM backbone. Refer to the CPC User’s Guide.
When you are building the subtending configuration, remember:
• one logical port per STM physical port (up to two per system).
• one Agent Transit Subscriber per STM port will be created by Cisco Provisioning Center in the corresponding MIB table.
• the Cisco Provisioning Center user creates links (typically NNI) between subtended and subtending equipment.
• routing through the subtending DSLAM configuration will be provided by the Threader

Table A-2 Table Types
Table Description
Object - Characteristics The object characteristics table lists the class name, class label, superclass, and database tables for the object.
Object - Attributes The object attributes table provides information about each attribute, including the GUI label, FTI name, description, range of acceptable values, and default values. For more information about this table type, see Table A-3.
Object - Aliases The object aliases table provides information about attributes that are aliases for other attributes. Aliases are provided to allow either attribute of an AZ pair to be referenced by a single name regardless of whether it is at the A endpoint or at the Z endpoint. For more information about aliases, see “Attribute Description” in Table A-3.

A Attribute Reference
Table A-3 Conventions Used In Object Attribute Tables
Convention Description
Attribute Name
The GUI label for each attribute (if applicable) is shown in double quotes. If the attribute does not have a GUI label, only the double quotes appear. The FTI name for each attribute appears in square brackets after the GUI label, in the format “GUI Label” [fti_name].
For example:
"Name" [srname]
Attribute Description
Defines the attribute. Some attributes contain restrictions or dependencies that are outside the scope of the table conventions. In this case, the restriction or dependency is included with the attribute description or within a footnote.
An attribute that is a pointer to another object is shown with the relation type and classname.
For example:
“ “ [sra_tp]
Relation of Type OPTIONAL, Relation Class Name = C4lpLport
For an attribute that has aliases, the FTI names for the aliases are included in the description, along with the FTI names of the attributes at the other endpoint.
For example:
"VCI" [raa_vci]
Alias: ralocalvci (other param: raz_vci)
Alias: raremotevci (other param: raz_vci)
means that ralocalvci and raremotevci can be used as an alias for either raa_vci or raz_vci.
In this case, the entry for the other endpoint is:
"VCI" [raz_vci]
Alias: ralocalvci (other param: raa_vci)
Alias: raremotevci (other param: raa_vci)

Network
Network Object Name: C1ntNetwork
OAF: C1ntNetwork.oaf
Network objects are classes of managed objects that are collections of interconnected telecommunications and management objects (logical and physical) capable of exchanging information. Networks can be nested within other (larger) networks.
A network object is created to represent an actual network in the Cisco Provisioning Center database. A network object is required to perform an upload of network elements.
Attribute Flags
The attribute flags describe the attribute behaviour as follows:
Create: O The attribute is optional upon creation.
Create: R This attribute is required upon creation.
Create: P This attribute is prohibited upon creation.
Modify: O This attribute is optional upon modification.
Modify: R This attribute is required upon modification.
Modify: P This attribute is prohibited from modification.
Profiled This attribute can be profiled.
Persistent This attribute is stored in the database (rather than existing only in memory).
Acceptable Values
This column indicates the acceptable value(s) for each attribute.
Text (n) This attribute requires a text string containing as many as n characters.
integer_1 – integer_2 This attribute requires a numerical value ranging from integer1 through integer2.
value_1 | value_2 | value_n
This attribute requires one of the enumerated values listed (value_1 or value_2 or value_n).
BOOLEAN This attribute requires a value of true or false.
Default This column indicates the default value (if applicable) for each attribute. Text default values are shown in double quotes. For a text attribute that does not have a default value, only the double quotes appear.

Working with Service Element ProfilesThis chapter contains information about creating Service element profiles for frequently used Service elements.
For a given Service element, more than one profile may be defined. However, for a given object, only one profile may be associated at any one time.
Since profiles themselves are objects which you can create and modify, they provide a means to store and name commonly used sets of attributes and provide a reliable shorthand method of configuring any number of new objects. A profile has most of the same attributes as the corresponding object class. Some attributes of the object class are not included in the profile because they are expected to be unique for each object. For example, an object's name is not a profile attribute.
The attributes of a profile are referred to as initial value attributes because they are used to assign the initial values to the corresponding object. Once a new object has been created based on a profile, changes to profile attribute values do not cause any changes to the corresponding object. The only time the profile attributes affect the object is when you create a new object.
Note A default profile exists for each supported Service element profile. Default profiles contain commonly used values for the attributes included in the profile.
For the Cisco NI-1 DSLAM Equipment Module, you can create Service element profiles for the following supported Service elements:
• DSL Physical Ports
• ATM Logical Ports
• ATM Cross Connections
This section details the generic procedure for creating, modifying, and deleting Service element profiles. The specific configurable attributes for each Service element profile for this Equipment Module can be found in Appendix A.
If you provide values for these attributes and also provide values in other places when you are creating a service (either during service creation or in a Service object profile) the threader will override the values based on the following scale of priorities:
1. Service object Subset Viewer/Object Viewer—All information provided in the Service object Subset Viewer and Object Viewer is used by Cisco Provisioning Center.
2. Service object profile—Cisco Provisioning Center will only use the information provided in the Service object profile for values that are either not available or not specified in the Service object Subset Viewer.
B-1 Equipment Module Configuration Guide
Appendix B Working with Service Element Profiles
3. Service element profile—Cisco Provisioning Center uses values from the Service element profile for all attributes that are not present or not specified in the Service object profile or on the Service object Subset Viewer.
Creating a Service Element Profile To create a Service element profile, complete the following steps:
Step 1 Navigate to networks > Cisco NI-1 DSLAM Equipment Module > Profiles > Specific EM Object > Specific EM Object Instance.
The Specific EM Object Lister is displayed in the Content Area.
Step 2 Click the Create button on the Action Bar.
An Object View appears in the Content Area.
Step 3 Enter the required attribute values in the Object View.
Step 4 Click the save or apply now button to save or apply the profile.
Modifying a Service Element Profile To modify a Service element profile, complete the following steps:
Step 1 Navigate to networks > Cisco NI-1 DSLAM Equipment Module > Profiles > Specific EM Object > Specific EM Object Instance.
The Specific EM Object Lister is displayed in the Content Area.
Step 2 In the Lister View, click the Get List button.
Optionally, use the field filters to narrow your selection before you click the Get List button.
Step 3 Check the box in the Select column next to the node element you want to modify.
Step 4 Click the Modify button on the Action Bar.
An Object View appears in the Content Area.
Step 5 Modify the attribute value(s) you want to change.
Step 6 Click the save or apply now button to save or apply the modification to the profile.
Deleting a Service Element Profile To delete a Service element profile, complete the following steps:
Step 1 Navigate to networks > Cisco NI-1 DSLAM Equipment Module > Profiles > Specific EM Object > Specific EM Object Instance.
The Specific EM Object Lister is displayed in the Content Area.
