The Village Celebrates the Official Opening of the Renovated Community Hall

The official Opening of the renovated Community

Hall was held on May 15, 2012 from 1 – 5 PM.

Approximately 100 people were in attendance at

various times throughout the day. Participants

ranged from elders, children, youth and adults of

all ages. A representative from Northern Pride

was also in attendance. Special regrets to our

Mayor and MLA, Buckley Belanger who were

unable to participate in the special event due to

extenuating circumstances in the family. Elaine

Malbeuf, Deputy Mayor facilitated the Public

Meeting Agenda. The meeting commenced with

an opening prayer done by Elder, Yvonne Roy.

Items on the Agenda included the following:

Northern Municipal Services – staff from the

Community Planning Division out of La Ronge

provided an overview of the proposed Zoning Plan

for the community. Council will be coordinating a

public meeting in early June to further discuss and

obtain feedback on the proposed plan from the

community.

Proposed Plan for the Multi-Purpose Facility

– an update was provided on the proposed plan for a

new multi-purpose facility for the community. The

blueprints for the facility were available for viewing.

Questions were raised about the location of the new

facility; the people were informed that the new

facility would remain at the current location. Special

thanks was extended to the local Facility Planning

Committee; Gordon Sparks, Dean of the Engineering

Department from the University of Saskatchewan

and the 4th year engineering students for all the time

and commitment dedicated to the design of the new

facility. The total cost of the new facility is

approximately 13 Million dollars. The total

insurance claim for the Charles Gauthier Memorial

Arena was 1.9 M. As we can see there is a huge

variance between the two figures. Council is

currently working on a financial strategy. More

information will be available at the public meeting in

June.

Retirement Award – a retirement award and

special recognition was presented to Martin Morin

who will be retiring at the end of May 2012 after

approximately 30 years of dedicated service to the

Water Works and Maintenance Departments for the

Northern Village of Beauval. Contingency plans

are in place to ensure a smooth transition of duties

to the new Water Works and Maintenance Operator.

Ribbon Cutting Ceremony – various members

of the community participated in the Ribbon Cutting

Ceremony. Elder, Therese Corrigal cut the ribbon

to officially open the Community Hall.

Other Discussion Items – Recreation for Children and Youth - an update

was provided on the $50,000 proposal submitted to

the Community Initiatives Fund (CIF) for the

development of a Skate Board Park for youth and

new Playground Equipment for the Children. The

Recreation Board is awaiting a response back from

the CIF. The Recreation Director will provide an

update at the next Public Meeting in June.

Financial Position – the Village is projecting an

operating surplus for the 2012 fiscal year. The

majority of outstanding debts from 2009 have been

settled.

An additional highlight was the donation of a

Fire Truck by Cameco Corporation.

A Silent Auction, various Door Prizes and lots

of food was available throughout the afternoon.

Displays were also set up by various agencies in

the community. Mayor and Council would like

to extend a special thank you to all those that

participated in the Official Opening of the

Community Hall and to the Village

Administrator and Staff for all their hard work

in ensuring a successful event. A special thank

you to Barry Morin for all the barbequing!
