St Michael’s Vocation Course

Do you wish you could deepen your understanding of the Christian faith? Have you wondered what it might be like to study ina College setting? Have you ever considered some form of

Many people would like to know more about the Christian faith but are nervous about the thought of study in a College setting. They are worried about what is expected of them and how they will cope with reading and writing essays. Some think about offering for Christian ministry but shy away because the thought of study is too much. Such people would welcome a half-way house between formal study in College and coming together for discussion in local parish groups. This is a course designed for those who might be thinking about ministry or who want to deepen their knowledge of Christianity but are unsure how they will get on with formal study. The course is written by tutors at St Michael’s College, and starts with a residential overnight meeting at St Michael’s College (09-10 January 2016) at which you can explore the idea of vocation and consider whether you may have some calling to ministry within the church. The weekend may be taken alone or, if you wish, you can follow it up with further guided study in conjunction with a placement. You will study areas such as the bible, mission, spirituality, Christian belief and ministry. Easy to follow study guides will help you explore each topic. The study guides are self-contained so you don’t need to be near a library. You work through the study materials in your own home. Every fortnight you meet up with a local tutor to talk about what you have studied. This is followed by a four week placement – during which you observe the work of a local minister. Finally there is a study day which helps you reflect on what you have learned about your call.If you are someone who wants to understand more about Christianity but has worried about study then this course is for you.

Living and Learning is a bi-lingual resourse produced by the St Seirial Centre which we are now able to offer here in the Diocese of Llandaff. It is made up of five modules:A Church for the FutureThis module explores what it means to belong to the Church in Wales at a time of change and development and asks questions about our future mission. It allows participants to explore the story of their own faith, the meaning of discipleship, the story of the Church where they are and to begin to reflect on how that story might develop in the future as the world and church change.Living ScriptureThis module explores how God is revealed through the scriptures and examines ways in which God’s Word can speak most effectively to us and our church today. It is designed to introduce students to the benefits of studying theology in an accessible way and its relevance to their faith.Called by GodThis module explores what it means to be called by God and asks the question: “What is God calling us as a church, and me as an individual, to be and do in the future?” Leading WorshipThis is a module that is designed to help those people who would like to become more involved in leading worship. It is a six session course and it will enable participants to develop their skills as worship leaders in their local churches.Pastoral VisitingThis module is designed to help those people who would like to become more involved in pastoral visiting. This module aims to provide you with a basic

understanding of all that is involved in pastoral visiting and to enable you to reflect on your own experience as a visitor
