Cinco De Mayo Writing Prompt Task Cards

Suggestions for Use:I absolutely love using task cards in my classroom because they have so many versatile

uses! Just print on cardstock if possible (color or gray-scale works), cut apart, and

laminate if desired. Print and copy the included response sheet or have students

respond in their notebooks. You can use this set of writing prompts in conjunction with a

lesson on Cinco de Mayo.

Some ideas for this set include:

•Use as a station activity for small groups to work on responding to the prompts with

different prompts at each station.

•Assign cards as homework for students to answer independently.

•These cards also work well for differentiation as one or multiple cards can be assigned.

These prompts are a part of my Cinco de Mayo lesson which includes a link to an

internet article on the holiday and 20 question task cards on Cinco de Mayo which can

also be incorporated into stations, games or other assignments. The Cinco de Mayo

Writing Prompt #1

You are General Zaragoza. You have

received notice that the French army

is arriving in Puebla. What happens

that day from your perspective? How

do you feel? Give details.

your French army have just lost the

Battle of Puebla. Retell the story.

Contrast what actually happened to

what you thought would happen.

How do you feel? Give details.

You are Napoleon III. You have just

heard that your French army lost the

Battle of Puebla. What are your

thoughts and feelings? What will you

do in response to what has

happened? Give details.

You are Abraham Lincoln. The French

army has recently invaded Mexico

and you receive a message from the

Mexican government asking for help.

How do you feel? Can the United

States help? Why or why not? Write a

letter of response.
