OUR STORY The Calgary International Film Festival (CIFF) is a 12-day showcase of over 200 multi-genre films from Canada and over 40 other countries. The first festival was held in 2000 for six days, and was attended by 8,000 people. With steady growth over the past three years, in 2016 CIFF set a record attendance for of 36,700 attendees! As well, film submissions have more than tripled over the past four years, to over 2,000 in 2016. CIFF is now the largest film festival in Alberta, and is the sixth largest in Canada. It is also an Oscar-qualifying festival for short films and was recently named one of "50 Film Festivals Worth the Entry Fee, 2016" by MovieMaker Magazine. FILM CIRCLE Film Circle donors are special members of the CIFF community who feel as passionately as we do about our mission “to entertain and engage audiences by curating the most innovative and compelling films, and creating remarkable festival experiences.” Thanks to the support of Film Circle members past and present, we have been championing local filmmakers, youth, and enriching the Calgary audience through film since our inception. We are especially proud that with the help of our supporters, we are the first to debut and give exposure to new filmmakers, particularly championing and fostering Alberta and Calgary’s own creative voices. Our emphasis on discovering new talent means that many of our filmmakers are early career artists. Receiving screening opportunities and these awards at an international film festival provides both the prestige and funds to gain support for future projects.
