Why are we here?
TDSB’s Long-Term Program and Accommodation Strategy (LTPAS) is a 10 year plan and is reviewed annually to allow for flexibility and responsiveness to a changing environment
Church Street Jr PS was identified as a school which is currently over-capacity and will continue to be short classrooms
A series of working meetings have been conducted by TDSB staff and the Program Area Review Team (PART) to review data and discuss impacts of any proposed changes
The overall goal for today is to receive broader feedback from the parents and community members impacted by the potential changes

Current Situation
Church Street Jr PSThe school has a utilization rate of 104% and is short 2 classrooms. Portables are
scheduled to be placed at the school site this summer to address the shortage of two classrooms and the continued growth in enrolment
Within the next 10 years, Church Street Jr PS enrolment is expected to grow to 133% utilization and be short 7 classrooms
Jesse Ketchum Jr & Sr PS
The school’s utilization rate is 75% and has extra classroom space

Boundary Change Options
Option A:
For the 2018/2019 school year, JK registrants and new families moving into the proposed boundary change area will register at Jesse Ketchum Jr & Sr PS. Existing 2017/2018 Church Street Jr PS students have the option to remain at Church Street Jr PS 1 Kindergarten class at Jesse Ketchum Jr & Sr PS in 2018/2019

Option B:
For the 2018/2019 school year, all Church Street Jr PS students living within the boundary change area will be moving to Jesse Ketchum Jr & Sr PS (currently 82 students) 4 classes at Jesse Ketchum Jr & Sr PS in 2018/2019

Church Street Jr PS becomes a JK to Grade 5 school in 2018/2019 and will feed into Jesse Ketchum Jr and Sr PS at grade 6 1 class at Jesse Ketchum Jr & Sr PS in 2018/2019

Internal Retrofits at Church Street Jr PS
TDSB staff identified potential internal retrofits creating two additional classrooms at Church Street Jr PS for the 2018/2019 school year Relocate the kitchen/lunch room currently in Room 105 to Seminar Room 109
and convert Room 105 into a regular classroom
Convert Kindergarten Room 106 into 2 classrooms

The Program Area Review Team will continue to explore additional retrofits opportunities.
All retrofit proposals must be submitted to the TDSB facilities team for structural evaluation and cost estimates

Portables at Church Street Jr PS
Two portables at Church Street Jr PS are required for the 2017/2018 school year The portables will be used to address the shortage of classrooms and to be
used as flex space to accommodate students if enrolment exceeds projections Under the staff recommended scenario, portables will be required until 2026
or until there is absolute confidence portables will not be required in the future.

Capital Request for Construction of Classroom Additions
The Ministry requires a business case that suggests the neighbouring schools are at capacity when considering approval for funding for classroom construction
Jesse Ketchum Jr & Sr PS would be considered to be a nearby school with available space to accommodate some of the Church Street Jr PS students, therefore acquiring capital would be a challenge
