Update on Bat Situation
We just wanted to keep everyone informed on the Bat Situation. Vince, our con-
tractor from A All Animal Control, stopped by on Thursday October 20th. He went
up into the attic to do an inspection and good news! It appears as if all the bats
have left the building! However, he shared that he wanted to keep the “bat valves”
(pipes that allow the bats to fly out but not come back in) up for a few more weeks
to make certain. The work on Phase 3 will begin around the first of November.
As you may remember, Phase 3 was the removal of the bat guano and insulation.
I just want to remind everyone that during the time of Phase 3, the church office will be closed.
Although we have been assured none of the contaminated materials will be taken down through the
lower level, I would rather play it safe. Both Joni and I are able to check email from home. I also
have my cell phone if there are any emergencies. As soon as we know when the work of Phase 3
will begin we will let everyone know so that we can plan accordingly.
The second piece of this update that I want to draw everyone’s attention to is that as we may recall,
the Board voted to borrow the funds from our Endowment to go towards the cost of this project with
the understanding that at least 1/3 would be paid back to the Endowment Fund. We know that we
are called to be good stewards of our Endowment Funds. The donations given to both the Mission
Endowment Fund and the Endowment Fund of Midway Christian Church were given in good faith so
that they would be used for the continued mission and ministry of our church. And that is exactly
what we want to achieve with this request. The Trustees and the Admin Team have decided to ask
for everyone’s help in retiring this debt and in the process, help us replenish the funds of our Endow-
ment. All donations given towards this project will be reinvested in the Endowment Funds so that
our Mission of Welcome can continue for a very long time.
We are asking 28 people to prayerfully consider giving $1000 in order to achieve our goal.
If you are unable to share this amount, any amount given would be greatly appreciated as we
work towards retiring our debt and replenishing our Endowment Funds.
And just to let you in on another little bit of good news. I know this seems like a daunting task. How
are we going to be able to raise so much money? Well, the other piece of good news is that the
youth of Midway Christian Church have already gotten us started. They donated $500 towards this
project! Thank you to all of our youth whose gift started us off with a strong foundation for this
project.
Now it is our turn. We are reminded that a little child will lead them….
Let us follow our youths’ example of generosity and share our gifts so that
that the mission of Midway Christian Church can continue for a very long
time.

Historic Second Christian Church Historic Second Christian Church was established in 1852, and is believed to be the oldest black church in the nation. It was first located on what is now the campus of Midway College, and in 1906 moved across East Stephens Street to its present location on Smith Street. Second Christian was organized out of Midway Christian Church so that the slaves could have a place of their own to worship.
Regional Green Chalice Green Chalice is Kentucky Disciples connecting Christian faith, spiritual practice and environmental consciousness in order to demonstrate the fullness of God's shalom. Green Chalice was called into being in 2007 to help Kentucky Disciples live sustainable lives in harmony with all creation. (from CCK web site) Midway Christian Church became a Green Chalice Congregation in 2010 and attained Certified Green Chalice Congregation status in 2015.

“Dear Reverend Heather and Midway Christian Church, I am glad I got to see you all a couple times
this summer; it was good to reconnect and catch up a little. Thank you for inviting me to share in
Casual Sunday--it is a joy to get to report and celebrate what God is doing across the ocean through
your support. Thank you for the $500 gift earlier this year and the $100 gift recently--both will be put
to good use in helping people in Senegal experience God’s welcome through Jesus’ life, death, and
resurrection for us in our place, as our substitute. May joy from the hope of this good
news renew Midway in fresh ways in the days ahead.” - Dayton
Thank You from Iron Horse Participant
“Dear Staff and Congregants of Midway Christian Church, Thank you so very much for hosting breakfast on the morning of the Iron Horse race. The amount of food you provided was impressive, and everyone was so friendly and kind. Thanks to you, my husband and two boys were actually excited to wake up early and wait 2.5 hours for me to run - they love pancakes! I even had a couple of pancakes myself after the run. Please offer a special
